Comments:
Unless there is a difference between models in countries, the D-R6 will only read DVD-RAM and not write to it.

Audio files will only play on CDR.

Got this from Future Shop at Yonge and Eglinton in Toronto. It was an open box special for $90 and I consider that a steal. Only thing is for playback it has no PAL conversion, so I'm keeping my LG player for now.

I believe they had several other open boxes of these and suspect they're clearing them out for a new model.

P.S. I'm a different James than the last commenter.

I have a question to anyone who owns this DR-6 Recorder:

Have you tried the "Time Slip" or "Chase Play" features on this recorder? I believe they work with DVD-RW discs, which is rare since most other recorders require DVD-RAM for this feature.

My specific questions is: Can you Fwd and Rev during Chase Play? I.e., can I begin recording a tv-show, leave for awhile, come back, start watching from the beginning, and Fast Forward during commercials? I thought I read in the manual that one cannot use Fwd during Time Slip or Chase play.

Another question: the previous post from "Steve" mentioned that he'd would be returning the unit since it doesn't support writing to DVD-RAM media type. Can you not make due with DVD-RW or DVD+RW? They cost less and should provide you with similar features. Just curious as to why you prefer DVD-RAM? Thanks.

Thanks in advance for anyone's comments, as I am considering purchasing this Toshiba DR-6.

Other machines I am considering are the Panasonic DMRES16S, and the Samsung DVD-R150, however I don't believe the Samsung supports Time Slip (aka Time Shift, Chase Play). Feel free to add your comments on these machines as well,,,, much appreciated.

_
James.

Comments:
Although the Canadian web site for Toshiba claims this device supports DVD-RAM, and the .pdf "sell sheet" for the recorder also claims this, it in fact, DOES NOT.

This has been confirmed by a call to Toshiba Canada an hour ago.

I'll be returning this to Future Shop.
