CVD? $? 2 days No rating Comments: I thought i finally had a recorder that would improve my slp VHS and i was happy at first even without thumbnails for dvd-rs.But then my luck ran out the VCR rewinded a tape right off the Spool!! I let it go but then it happened again.Brought it back to Sears(which i Hate Now)back to square 1.

MP3 WMA CVD? $250 30 days 7 of 10 DVD-MP3 MP3 long filename Comments: Unit required a firmware upgrade before it would recognize 8X blank DVD-R discs. It came with one 4X DVD-R which are hard to find these days. I emailed Customer Service at Funai Corporation and feel that it was a pleasant experience overall. They asked me for my model and serial number and explained how to find the version of firmware installed. They then sent me a firmware upgrade with instructions on how to upgrade. The disc arrived by mail in a few days. I did not expect to be required to upgrade a brand new DVR and I am disappointed that I had to do anything. Even after the upgrade it will not recognize DVD-RWs above 2X and they are very hard to find. The Owner's Manual is very difficult to understand and could be better written. I downloaded the manual from Funai in .pdf format and, with the SEARCH feature in Adobe Reader, I could navigate it much easier. Dubbing from VHS-to-DVD is a one button command (only from the front panel) and I commend the unit for that feature. However, there are several set-up features to be programmed in before you can use Dubbing. If I had done my homework before hand, I would not have bought this unit.

CVD? $? 14 days No rating Comments: OK I received the upgrade disc today which notes on disc: Software Update for 8x Version: R15*****R1.5 To get into Firmware update screen: Have no dvd in machine. Power on machine Press dvd on remote (to put unit in dvd mode) Push on remote CM Skip, then 6 5 4 Put disc in and close tray Upgrade takes about 2 min. When it ejects disc remove it Power off unit (tray stays open for a few moments Wait around 30 sec and power up. Thats it. I just tried Verbatim DVD-R Datalife up to 8x discs and it recorded fine (even though they said use Fuji or Imation) The reason I did this is because I had bought these before I knew about what brand they recommended, anyway it looks like they work fine.

CVD? $? 6 days No rating Comments: I talked to Sylvania/Funai today and they recommend: Fuji and Imation DVD's (4x -R and 2x -RW). I was further told that they will send me a firmware upgrade disc so that I can use up to 8x -R and 4x -RW's. The way to check your firmware is to have no disc or vhs in the machine, press DVD on the remote, press CM skip, then press 1 2 3 I will report back after the F/W upgrade.

CVD? $? 3 days No rating Comments: I have had this unit for a few days and can not get it to record on either -R or -RW. The -R I tried was Verbatim 8x (I did not see previous comments on only using 4x until now) and the -RW I tried were Sony. Any help on media brand and speed would be appreciated!! gottacakajr@aol.com
