CVD? $175 over 1 year 7 of 10 JPG/JPEG DVD-JPG DVD-MP3 DVD-RAM Comments: I give this thing a workout every day 4 to 6 hours a day. It records and plays a wide verity of disc formats. I record on DVD -RW Mainly because DVD players are most likely to support this format. (I use Maxell disks in case you wanted to know). It'll record at every speed that I know of. They are as follows. HQ (high quality 60 min) (HSP 90 min) SP (Standard Play 120 min) (LSP 150 min) (ESP 180 MIN) (LP 240 min) (EP 360 min) (SLP 480) It will (PLAY/RECORD) DVD +R/+RDL +RW -R/-RW 12 CM discs. Will not record 8CM discs. But will +R/+RW -R/-RW 8CM discs. PLAYBACK (DVD-RAM-removable cartriges 12CM) VID/CDs CD-Rs CD-RWs in VID/CD format music CDs or CD-Rs/CD-RWs in music CD format. DATA CDs CD-ROMs/CD-Rs made on a PC in music format,orMP3 or JPEG formatthat conforms to ISO9660 LEVEL 1 and 2 (ISO,INTERNATIONAL ORGANIZATION for STANDARDIZATION)DATA DVDs DVD-ROMs DVD/-Rs/-RWs +Rs/+RWs in MP3 OR JPEG format. WILL NOT PLAY DVD audio discs. HD layer on super audio CDs The manual is relatively EZ to understand. Set up doesn't take long. I really like that it has as many features as compared to other DVD/Play/Rec It has Standard (IN) jacks in the front under the panel plus the S/Vidio/jk (a lot of them are not covered up). On the back it has all the standard jacks. But it also has the following jacks as well. Set top box-jk HDMI-OUTjk (DIGITAL AUDIO OUTjk/COAXIAL/Optical) COMPONENT VIDIO-OUT (Y Pa Pr-jk) peoples biggest complaint is that you can't record copyrighted data. There are decoders out there that just plug into the back. I needed this option so data received could be downloaded to a disc. I'm pretty happy with its overall functionality. It records well. Other DVD players can play the discs without problems. The down side. Only a few things that I find to be a problem. Editing information is a bit of a hassle. For me anyway. In order to do any real editing. You have to make title lists (chapters) But to make a title list you need to stop recording. And the hit the REC/button again. Which means I need to watch all the material to make a title list. but you can't edit a title list. you must erase the whole thing. And I don't aways know what information I will need to edit. So for me it's a hassle. But, You can record in VR mode which gives you more editing options. But what you record in VR mode may not work in another player. But, I have yet to find a recorder that gives full editing capabilities in just regular record mode in a machine under $300.00 The remote is a little disappointing, for me anyway. The buttons are small and close together. The lettering is also very small as are the vol/ chan arrows. I need to wear my reading glasses to see them. The pause ff/rev and skip/frwd/bkwrd buttons stop and REC. buttons should have been larger. The tv section is useless. All it would really need is a PREV/CHAN button It only has CHAN/UP/DWN buttons. And the key pad isn't compatible with my TV. A digital camera port would have been nice. but it drives up the cost. I gave it a 7 rating because of the broad range of functions it can do. And it can do a lot. And can play back a wide range of discs. So when your friend comes over with a disc recorded on a off brand machine. Chances are this will play it. And it dose all this at a fair price. And what is a hassle for me may not be for you.
