CVD? $? 7 days 8 of 10 DVD-JPG Comments: Basic setup easy. More complex setup takes a bit to get all options right. Menus are easy and intuitive. Quality of recording is good also at low rates. Lower rate however is a bit too poor. Guide+ not easy to get running but very easy to use. Fan a bit noisy. Almost all disks that cannot play have been home-made (Pinnacle Studio or Pinnacle Liquid Edition) and have a structure such as VIDEO-MENU-VIDEO. DVDs starting straight with a menu have higher success rate. All the DVDs have been verified on burning (Nero) and play OK on other players (LG, Philips). It is possible to play the DVDs that do not play by duplicating them onto RW media. Data DVDs with JPEG play but the speed is very slow (1200x800).

Guide+ not easy to setup (also because Switzerland/French is not in the standard set) but very good once it works. Recording quality OK even at low rates (but not the lowest, where artifacts are very evident). Play of DVDs with mixed results: -R unknown OK:5 +RW "That's Write" 2.4x OK:1 +RW HP 2.4x OK:1 +RW EMTEC 4x OK:2 +RW TDK 4x OK:4 Failed:2 +RW Gigatain 4x OK:2 +RW Memorex 4x OK:1 +R Verbatim printable 4x Failed:10 +R Verbatim non-printable 4x OK:2 +R Verbatim printable 16x OK:12 Failed:2 +R TDK 8x OK:2 Failed:6 +R Philips 4x OK:1 Failed:6 +R TDK DL Failed:1 Failed = the player refuses to play either with "No title" or "Disk error". All DVDs have been compiled with Pinnacle Studio or Pinnacle Liquid and burned with Nero, verification enabled. They all play in other units (LG, Philips). DVDs that do not play can be copied onto a RW and then they play OK. This excludes errors in the data itself. Almost all DVDs that do not play have a small introduction video followed by the menu(s) and the videos.
