CVD? $? 14 days No rating Comments: !!!!BURN YOUR MEDIA TO THE END!!!! Record all your DVD media to the end in this recorder. It appears that with some media stopped before its natural length is completed, will not "finalize" (Tools -> Disc Info - Finalize; mostly needed for alternate drive playback, like PC) correctly meaning even though the disc is finalized it fails to playback on other devices. Burning your media to the end in VIDEO format and then FINALIZING helps.

CVD? $? 2 days No rating Comments: DVD RECORDER TO OTHER DVD READER OR PC DVD READ ERROR SOLUTION. Usually Bad Media is a common problem if the below does not work (and if hardware is not faulty). Verbatim DVD-RW seem to work good here. #1 Finalize DVD in Menu. Otherwise DVD may only play on just recorded device. #2 Format mode VIDEO (not VR) for a DVD that can play on most systems. **Special Note: VIDEO mode format can not be edited like VR. Some VR formats can work on other systems, even without finalizing. Some VIDEO mode formats can also playback on other media without finalizing. MAKE SURE BEFORE YOU BURN A COLLECTION THAT YOUR MEDIA CAN PLAY ON ANOTHER PLAYER! NOT FAULTY DVD-RW DVD MEDIA + VIDEO MODE (NOT VR) FORMAT IN DVD RECORDER + FINALIZING DVD AT END IN MENU = GLOBAL DVD.

CVD? $? 120 days 5 of 10 Comments: The DARIOUS post below for August 2004 is NOT correct about the Dual Layer (DVD +R DL) compatibility. This machine DOES *NOT* play those discs. Sony have also now answered my query by email and confirmed this <sigh>. Sheeeeesh!!!!!!

CVD? $? 60 days 6 of 10 Comments: Not impressed so far with DVD+R DL compatibility of the RDR-GX3. I'm using a Sony DRU700A PC DVD burner with latest firmware and Verbatim DataLifePlus 8.5gb blanks. I wrote of the above 3 DVD+R DL discs with the latest Nero and Updates under WinXP. I set the Book Type to DVD-ROM on 2 of the burns, and left the third with the default setting to see if that would help. All 3 discs produced a "Disc Error" on the RDR-GX3. After I put the DVD+R DL disc in, it takes ages trying to work out what type of disc it is, then up shows the error on the front display. But here's the weird thing... The same 3 discs play OK on my PS2 and XBox consoles! Support requests so far to Sony have produced no help (a week now). Surely to God a Sony DRU700A PC burner can write discs that the Sony stand-alone RDR-GX3 can play! TIA for any help.

CVD? $200 7 days 5 of 10 Comments: Problem with Media to read on PC DVD-RW VR-Mode! Tevion Best Price on ALDI DVD+RW, Attention ACHTUNG first FORMAT not on PC must on SONY then Work. If you formated on PC you can not Write on SONY RDR-GX3, and REFORMATED on Sony Accepted! BAT -> not work! Read error!! Also alles zuerst im SONY formatieren, dann klappts!! Abgeschlossene Sony DVD-RW V.1.1 with CPRM not work on PC?? MfG Chris

CVD? $? 60 days 7 of 10 DVD-RAM Comments: High qaulity kit from Sony again. Recording qaulity is very good. I use it to archive from Sky plus and the quality is fantastic. Important point is that it WILL play back DVD+R DL discs recorded on your PC.

N/A 10 of 10 Comments: Had this recorder for about a month. I have used cheap DVD-R (Datawrite Reds) and DVD-RW (TDK and Packard Bell) all have worked without any problems. Used 120-240 settings mainly from a Sky+ PVR with very good results on 120 and 180 mins the quality is outstanding on 240 the quality drop is noticable but still way over that of VHS.

DVD-R PRINCO PLAYS DVD-RW FUJI BURNS AND PLAYS DVD+RW EMTEC BURNS AND PLAYS BEWARE DVD-RW BURNED IN "VR" MODE ARE UNREADABLE ON ANY ANOTHER PLAYER EVEN ON A PC. DVD+/-RW BURNED IN ALL OTHER MODES ARE FULLY COMPATIBLE WITH OTHER PLAYERS (tested with an old SONY DVP-S335). BUT TO DO SO THEY MUST BE FINALIZED. PICTURE QUALITY: VERY NICE UP TO LP MODE (3 hours). TO BAD IT DOESN'T READ MP3. EXTENSIVE AUTHORING MODE.

N/A 9 of 10 Comments: I have had my unit for about 10 days.I have used R-,RW- and RW+ media.I have been using my pc/burner to copy VHS tapes to DVD.This is much easier.I have not tried beyond the 4 hour(EP) setting,but at that size the videos were very good.I also have a DV video camera,so the firewire conection is nice.
