plays tdk TTG02 8x dvd-r just fine have made a couple of home movies using (1) windows movie maker to capture footage from dv cam to hard drive (2) dvd santa to turn the DV-AVI into vobs (3) nero to burn and they work perfectly have also "backed up" a couple of my full retail dvds using dvd decrypter then nero work flawlessly its one of the new slim models but the disks also work on my mates old fat model early PS2

I was expecting to have to mod my PS2 to play my DVD+R and -R. But to my surprise I popped them in and boom they play w/o any modifications to the PS2. I know that VCD/SVCD will require modding, but my DVD media doesn't. Great DVD player that required no modding for me!

Plays DIVX and MP3 with Gameshark Media Player using ethernet port. If you have the new HDD, you can play JPG's using the following method: 1. Sign up for FFXI (If you want to quit, you can still keep the email address) 2. Send pictures in JPG format from your computer to your Playonline account. 3. Download pictures from message and view in Playonline file browser. The newer models have progressive scan and better disc formats (Works with DVD +- R, DVD +- RW, untested). My SCPH 39001 works with CDRW's, but very rarely. I've tried Memorex CDRW's, and if they don't work on the first try, they usually do on the second. A 50001 I've used can't read any burned discs, but supposedly this is a very rare problem.

I have a version 4 PS2 which I just found out will play SVCD's converted for burning onto DVD-R. The ones I've tried were authored with NeoDVD and TMPGEnc, and TMPGEnc DVD Author.

Won't play any SVCD or VCD on any CD-Rs i've tried, and thats a lot. Will however play SVCD on DVD+R with the header patched. (Not VCDs though).

Just a quick update of my E-mail Original Message: I'm just here to clear up that the older versions of the PS2 (1 to 6) do run DVD+R's (NTSC). I have only tested with DVD standard video encoded with TMPGEnc. Overall this is one of the markets highest quality players. (Burnt DVD w/ DVDit) E-mail me if you need help or want updates from my research.

Hi. Just thought I would report that the Sony Playstation 2 is capable of playing non-official Dolby Digital AC-3 audio files that are authored with DVD Video on a DVD+R disc. The non-official AC-3 audio files I referred to can be created using ac3enc.dll, AC3Machine GUI, and BeSweet. After burning two different backup copies of dvd movies, the ps2 wouldn't read the disk. The first disk was a KHypermedia dvd-r and the second was a TDK DVD-RW47S. The software used was DVDXCOPY GOLD V3.0.2. Using the Xcopy X-press portion. The TDK-RW did work in another player after the second try but the KHypermedia disk never has.

Ok here is the deal about the PS2: I have ver 1 the orginal and the new Ver 7. Ver 1: This system is moded with Neo Sbox ( Gameshark has to be used as a boot disk). It will play all good backup of my personnel ps1/ps2 games on CD-R from PS1/PS2 (us/jap/eur). Expect for certain games like Heroes of Might and Magic. I just moded the system few days ago so I will update this report later in the future. I was not able to get backup DVD games to play at all. I am using HPdvdwriter 200i with RecordNow software that came with it. I also tried Nero, Alcohol 120% and Stomp RecordNow Max. They all gave the same results using Verbatim and HP Medias. The system will play Backup DVD+R movies ONLY and not DVD+RW. Ver 7. Will only play original games from ps1 and ps2. It can also play DVD+R and DVD+RW backup movies only. NO GAMES YET. If there is anyone out there who might enlighten me on the next step I should do to get My Ver 7 to play and recognize Backup CD-R and DVD+R Games? I appreciate the response.

Im well chuffed with the reality media player i found, now i can play DivX and MP3 on my ps2. I use Dr. DivX to encode my divx cus i used to use flask mpg but wen i played them in the ps2, it wud freeze throughout the movie 4 a second then resume play, and that got annoying. Star Wars Episode 1 (DVD RIP) plays fine at 480x352 encoded with Dr. Divx. Havnt Tried many mp3s in it yet
