CVD? $200 over 1 year 1 of 10 Comments: This machine frequently locked up in the middle of a dvd movie and would have to be manually advanced past scenes in order to continue. At this time it displays a no disk message and will not play a cd or a dvd. In service mode it says the unit has been used 33hrs for dvd play and 8 hrs for cd play. Add the cost of movie rental and that's over $15 per movie viewed. Pretty pathetic for a Sony. Its cheaper to go to a movie theatre.

CVD? $? over 1 year No rating Comments: This player seems to not be able to read burned CDs at all. I've tried lots of kinds of CD-Rs plus Memorex CD-RWs and it just can't read them.

Won't even play burned audio CD-Rs. Playing CD-RWs is hit-or-miss, and it often takes several attempts before a disc will play. Roxio Toast Titanium burns usable VCDs on Memorex 700 MB CD-RW media.

MP3 WMA CVD? $350 N/A 8 of 10 Comments: contrary to what $ony told "Dan", I have successfully played a DVD+R that I burned on my PC using cladDVD & TMPGEnc DVD Author over-all, I think this is a great player, BUT.... i have learned that this player uses the exact same laser assembly that was used in the ill-fated original PS2's altho i have never had any problems with my PS2 (i don't use it for DVD's much tho), my DV-S560D is now occasionlally giving me the dreaded 'disc-read' error -- "13:00" = no disc.... i have a found a guide on the internet explaining how to fix the problem on PS2's, and one of my coworkers has performed the procedure on his PS2 with perfectly positive results i will attempt this on my stand-alone player

I don't have time to go through all109 postings, so I contacted Sony directly and by e-mail they told me this: "Regretfully, the Sony DVP-S560D DVD player is not able to play discs burned using a PC. This DVD Player does not support playback of DVD+R and DVD-R discs. This DVD Player can only play the following discs: DVD Videos VIDEO CDs Audio CDs The player cannot play the discs other than the once listed above. CD-Rs, CD-ROMs including PHOTO CDs, data sections in CD-EXTRAs, DVD-ROMs, DVD audio, HD (high density) layer of Super Audio CD etc, cannot be played." Hope this helps.

N/A 8 of 10 Comments: VCD and SVCD work great, so long as you use the right media. I've yet to find CD-R's that work. Memorex and Verbatim CD-RW work great, but only the 650 MB (74 min) discs; the 700 MB (80 min) CD-RW do not.

N/A 5 of 10 Comments: Dear fernando Hey Fernando, If you have a sony DVP S560D , it will not play CD-Rs (Except some sold by circuit city - read the other posts below) and only some CD-RWs. My advice to you is , use this link (http://www.dvdrhelp.com/dvdplayers.php) and locate a player which can play all the medias u r interested in. It's better to spend 50-60 bucks buying a new player than spend many frustrating hours authoring VCDs/SVCDs which then fail to play on your set top player. I am currently using Philips DVD 724 and it plays everything i have ever thrown at it. Coming back to Sony DVP S560D, I have succesfully used comp-usa and sony brand CD-RW on this player to play VCDs and SVCDs which i authored using tmpgenc and burned using nero. By the way, This sony player has a design fault and is soon gonna die. You can read abt it on www.audioreview.com. Once it dies, in approx 1.5 to 2 years, use this link to fix it > http://www.benmorris.net/DVD/Index.htm However, after the above fix, the player is good only for playing DVDs and nothing else. My earlier CD-RWs stopped playing after the fix.

N/A 1 of 10 Comments: To All of you dvp-s560d owners with the "no-disc" or "c13" errors this site http://www.benmorris.net/DVD/Index.htm said the problem wasn't the optics but a small surface-mount fuse labeled "f402" on the circuit board. It includes a DIY fix that believe it or not actually worked for me. Now i have my player working again and didn't even cost me anything except a little time,patience,and a soldering iron and solder!!!!!!

N/A 3 of 10 Comments: This is for all the owners of this crappy DVD Player who have been searching for some CDR's that actually work and play VCD's and SVCD's. Jensen 80 min. CDR's work. To all of you who were wondering what happend to STI CDR's that were only sold at Circuit City these I believe have taken their place. They are actually made by STI also and believe it or not they WORK.... I purchased these at Circuit City. I am not certain who else sells them.

However, as reported here, the only discs that work for VCD are the STI digitalmedia. You can purchase them at Circuitcity, or at their website sticertified.com

You can find them anywhere and nero will easily erase the disk for re-recording..I burn svcd and besides pushing open/close every so often to get it to recognize svcd,NO PROBLEM!!

CVD? $200 N/A 4 of 10 DivX MPEGISO Comments: I have had no success with CD-Rs, but I have not tried the Princo STIs. I have yet to try Circuit City's STIs. A quick look at their website revealed they only carry the Jensen STI brand, which another user reported doesn't work. I did have success with Memorex CD-RWs. In VCD mode, the audio severely lagged the video even though the file was in 44.1 KHz, and not 48 KHz. SVCD worked like a champ. Both had excellent video quality--no complaint there. No header trick needed either to run SVCD. I too have had issues with this DVD player displaying C13 errors. I've tried about everything to clean the interior including compressed air. The air helped a bit, but rarely do I make it through a movie without problems. Based on other user feedback, I called Sony and requested a free repair even though I'm out of warranty. We worked out a fair deal that I can live with. Hopefully others will have success with this route. Bottom line is this unit appears to be faulty after about a year. It does run hot, so make sure you have plenty of ambient air circulation.

N/A 6 of 10 Comments: My Sony S560D is more than two years old now. I bought it for its low vertical height and built in Dolby Digital decoder. Princo CD-R media work well for me, and I have had sporadic success with R/W (first time burns only). I was suffering from player lock-up after about 1.5 hrs into a movie. The unit has always run hot, so I drilled some evenly spaced holes along the top of the sides and added a heat sink to the largest surface mount IC. All is well now... Try this fix if you are having problems and your warranty has expired. I'm sure Sony would charge me more for repair than to buy a replacement unit....

N/A 3 of 10 Comments: After exhausting search to find out what c:13 meant i took a a chance ordering a different type of media. however that doesn't matter. What I found by pure luck is that if you hit the menu button on the dvd player just as the disk starts, it will go directly to the menu and bypass the c:13 message. I thought that the media may have been to dark and it couldn't read it and that may still be the case. Anyway, that little work around works for me, maybe it will work for you.

CVD? $300 N/A 6 of 10 Comments: I burn on to DVD-R Media with a Pioneer A03 Drive. I have had limited Success pluging my DVD-R Creations into the S560D. I could say a whole lot about this player but I think I'll just list my experiences in a kind of random list format. DVD-R and DVD-RW Media Did play a lot of the time. DVD-RW media had a lot more trouble than DVD-R. My best Success was with Pioneer and Apple Media using 6MB/sec. "Pioneer was able to send me DVD-R Discs recorded at other rates created by thier latest Set top DVD-R Recorder that played just fine in this unit." Cheep media from Meritline had even more trouble. Fuse Blew and Player broke after 1 year. Same kind of Fuse problem happened again after 2nd Year. I saw a whole lot of the C13 "Dirty Disk" Error. I had a certain letter dissapear off of my front panel display. Regular DVD movies played great when Fuse problems were not acting up. Like another user, I kind of feel like the DVD-R media accelerated the death of my unit. It was a difficult player to learn about and Test DVD Authoring With. I never new if It would show me enough of my creations so I would know how I was doing.
