CVD? $? 120 days 7 of 10 JPG/JPEG Comments: I bought a used one from a friend of mine. It is connected directly to my TV (using no reciever recently). Normally it plays commercial CDs, DVDs and DVD-Rs (Princo 4x), DVD-RW and +R/+RW has not been tested. There is no possibility to play CD-R/RW, VCD, mp3 and JPEG. Perhaps it used to be one of the best DVD players in its "golden age" but unfortunately nowdays I have problems with it (many pauses while playing different DVD-Rs) so it is time to change.

I wil test the DVD-R as soon as i can, and post it here ;-).

N/A 6 of 10 Comments: Feb 2004 Found a place in UK selling CD-R Discs that work for making VCDs. http://www.cd-rmedia.co.uk/ Under the name of Paradox and it actually says they are sony compatible I needed some more CDs so I took a chance. http://www.cd-rmedia.co.uk/cgi-bin2/listproducts. ... facturer=8 When you turn the Media upside down they look like Vivastar discs which I also own. Curiously etching the same videocd.cue/bin image onto the disc as on the Vivastar the Paradox seems to play it better less MPEG artifacts on the Paradox than on the Vivastar. Also read that Princo are in Royalty dispute with Phillips: http://www.cdr-by-mail.co.uk/ and anyone selling them in the UK are breaking the law and even anyone importing them apparently.

CVD? $400 N/A 7 of 10 Comments: I tried loads of different brand's cd-r's, none worked TDK, MMORE, Sony), all gave the "no disc" on the DVD player. Also tried 2 different cd-rw's (Maxell and HP) that didn't work. Someone else earlier gave the tip that the Fujifilm did work, so i got that one, and yes indeed, it did work. Too bad cd-r's are not supported (besides the Princo's than, but can't find those in The Netherlands) It's a bit expensive to burn movies on 2,50 Euro's cd-rw's instead of 1,- Euro cd-r's. (i create VCD and split them in two 700mb files) Goodluck.

Burning with nero (UDF dvd) doesn't work that well ripping and burning with dvddecrypter works best for my dvd burner and player burned with sony dru500a 2.0g

N/A No rating JPG/JPEG Comments: I can definitely confirm that Princo and Vivastar CDR's work absolutely perfect if you make VCD's using NERO, Record now. I even recorded some MP3's onto PRINCO as WAV files and it plays well. I believe the principal reason why they play is because these discs use POLYCYTHALINE dye...others use cythaline or some different dyes which the sony doesnt like. One more problem is these companies are not commercial themselves and they are back suppliers to major brands like Phillips, Sony etc. So do not be surprised if you see that one of the major brand works for you. I site also this as a reason why they are not commercially available in supermarkets and all (esp in swiss). It will be great if we can make the MP3's work. Any advise on CDRW....I havent tried..looks like most work as per others...keep it coming... Girish

N/A 2 of 10 JPG/JPEG DVD-MP3 MPEGISO Comments: Plays DVD+RW ok but only if authored in Pinnacle or Ulead. Will not play Data files from Nero or Record Now Burn. Only way found to play copies is to AVI and re-compile with software similiar to above. DVD copy/shrink fails because of data file structure. Fails to recognise disc. Used Imation DVD+RW on HP200i using Intel 4 (XP) and Radeon 9000. Fails to read cd-RW Verbatim. Shows as 'dirty disc' - error C13. Problem seems to relate to ability to read any form of 'data' disc. OK on other player. Have used Nero 5.5 and Veritas Record NOW 4.1, Ulead studio6 and Pinnacle studio8 - Buy Ulead for this it's easier. BUY a Philps 733 and solve all these problems! I use both and know which one I'd buy again if they got stolen!!

MP3 WMA CVD? $250 N/A 8 of 10 JPG/JPEG DVD-MP3 MP3 long filename MP3 ID3 TAG DivX Comments: Plays SVCDs and XSVCDs with the header trick (replacing mpeg-2 header by mpeg-1 header for luring the player and make it think it plays a VCD whereas it plays SVCDs perfectly !) XSVCDs may cause problems on high bitrate scenes (the reading is slowed, blocks appear, the reading continues, until it goes back to normal afeter the high bitrate passage is passed) Excellent quality image. From what I've read, it can play some CD-Rs brands like Vivastar or Princo. Haven't tried yet, I only use Verbatim's or Taiyo Yuden's, sometimes Sony's.

Haven't tried Vivastar. All others seem to not work (I've tested dozens). - All CDRWs seem to work (some better than others). - Plays SVCDs with the header trick. - I've authored all kinds of VCDs and some SVCDs (w/trick) and it played them all. - Remote OK. BIG CONS: - Region-free and Macrovision hacks only possible through soldering new firmware patch. - Doesn't play MP3. - Doesn't play MiniDVD. I would rate it 9 if the region-free and MP3 were available.

I've also tried it with Sony and Verbatim DVD-RW and it works. It also works with Sony and TDK DVD+RW. No problems with Verbatim DVD+R and Network DVD-R. XVCD works with bitrate up to 2500 Kbit/s and with these sizes: 352*288, 352*576, 480*576, 720*576, 640*480

To have Sony DVP-S335 accepted CD-R-music disks didn't work, but I managed to play CD-RW music disks. Here is hardware I am using in my home computer: AMD Athlon XP 2200+, Samsung CD-RW-driver 32-10-32 and software I am using in my home computer: Windows XP Professional, Nero-Burning Rom 5.5.7-burning software.
