Comments:
I've only had this about a week now, but it's certainly holding up pretty well. As it has very few features, I can't really say I'm 'impressed' with it, but I'm certainly satisfied.

The Picot has no problems with (re)writable DVD media (I've tested lots of cheap DVD-R and DVD+RW discs), but then again I wasn't expecting any as this feature is shown on the box. It also plays SVCD fine, although it has no other SVCD features (e.g. no subs, no audio selection, no chapters).

MP3 playback is pretty good. I have a CD made up of different MP3s for testing - high bitrate, low bitrate, VBR, different encoders and a few 'odd' mp3s that play on a PC fine but usually have problems in standalones. The Picot played all the tracks except one (an MP3 with a corrupt header), which isn't bad as that MP3 also won't play in Philips and Sanyo players (it only plays in my CyberHome 505). Note that as with Philips and other DVD players, when playing MP3s the digital output does work but is marked as 'no copy' so you will not be able to transfer MP3 to minidisc this way.

Video quality is very good, the image clarity and motion easily beats my Philips DVDR880. The obvious problem here though is that only S-Video (SVHS) is possible, no component or even RGB outputs. The lack of RGB out certainly knocked a few points off my score for this player (good S-Video leads can reduce dot crawl to a minimum, but the flicker on horizontal edges is still a problem). There is also no way to zoom the video, which won't be an issue for many people, but I personally like to zoom letterbox DVDs to at least widescreen when viewing on a 21" TV or smaller.

The unit does NOT have PAL/NTSC conversion as mentioned in a previous review, but it can play both PAL and NTSC discs fine providing your TV can handle both formats. The player can be made multiregion with a One4All remote (which is the easiest way - see the region hacks page), and there are other ways to do it with a Pronto or Palm Pilot.

Lastly, the player has only coaxial digital out, which is strange given that it's a Sony product and they usually put optical outputs on everything from CD Walkmans to hi-fi systems. However, this isn't a big problem if you need an optical output as Maplins are selling coaxial to optical converters for £7 at the moment.

Most people looking to buy this player will be doing so because of its looks or small footprint, but even so at the moment £50 (at Sainsburys, or online) for a Sony DVD player with good video quality can't be bad.

Szerintem jó! Bár az ár/érték arány nem megfelelő.
