I use this primarily to view commercially pressed or self burned movies.
It was excellent for the first year but recently has started to frequently freeze on dual layer discs, very irritating. Still does ok with single layer discs. I estimate it has about 2000 hours of playing time. I'm going to replace it with another brand. |

I have a Sony NS50P, which plays all my DVD's (-R/RW, +R/RW; created with Movie Edit Pro). I wanted another DVD for another TV, and learned the 50P was replaced by the 55P, and ordered it.
I tried DVD's of the different formats in the new player, but after the first menu page, it would stop being able to navigate the menus. The chapter pictures and test showed, but no highlight. Play wouldn't work. Sometimes sub-menu button would return to the video.
But since it couldn't play my DVD's, I returned it.
I then tried the DVP-NS75H, with the same results, so returned it.
I've since been able to get another 50P, which can play my DVD's.
The 75H can play commercial DVD's, and the picture is great.

| In one day, I threw all that I had at this player and it came out on top. The quality is superb. I got a 57 inch Sony HDTV with Projection Screen. I had a Samsung HD860 and the image quality sucked (even with HDMI connectio), even after many tries in the settings for the player and the tv. After I got the Sony DVP-NS75H, all the problems cleared up. I would recommend this player. With HDMI connection, and sound amplified through a home theater system, I am enjoying it as I type this. |

| Great player, starts a little slow...but I think most dvd players do. Great color intensity and sound...I think the sound is better. My old player was a 6 yr old Panasonic RV80 that costs $300. Layer change is pretty quick. It remembers stop place for up to 6 DVDs, even if you remove them from the player. I'm using HDMI into Samsung HLR-5067w DLP. Picture and much smoother more detail appears for good DVDs...it can't improve poorly recorded material. No jaggies on strong vertical lines like I had on Pannie. This is a keeper until HD DVD comes down to reality and works out their bugs and limitations...like not passing the HD sound, now that's just stupid. |

| I just bought this player last night to replace a Toshiba SD-5980, which was a P.O.S. This player has played 3 of my backup disks flawlessly so far. I really want to stress test this thing until my 30 day return period is up. |
