While I agree that this player does have good audio and (particularly) picture quality for an entry-level priced unit, it does not play damaged discs (even with minor scratches) very well. I wish I had a dollar for every rental DVD I've had to finish watching on my DVD-Rom due to this player's intolerance for used discs.

CVD? $175 over 1 year 10 of 10 DVD-RAM Comments: I have created numerous CDs, VCDs, SVCD and DVD's using different media although Verbatim is my personal choice with best results. For DVDs I have used -R/RW, +R/RW and +R DL. I have never had any problems with playback. I previuously used a LG 4082B DVD burner but have changed to a Sony DRU-720A. Picture and sound quality superb, I live in South Africa and I do a lot of nature photography/videos using Pinnacle Studio for VCD/SVCD/DVD creation.

I take it for the BNR(Block Noise Reduction) and DVE(Digital Video Enhancer) which greatly reduces the pixalation on VCDs. Great DVD playback and simple playback compatibility for SVCD(tried) I have hooked it to Yamaha AV receiver through fibre optical cable and DTS and Dolby Digital effects are just superb for panning. Having Mp3 compatibility is added advantage. I have not tried on DVD-MP3 but may work with 499 folder and 999 titles as described in operation manual.The DVD disc should be finalied using ISO and Joliet specification. And yes it is region free from date of purchase no hassles plays all region DVDs in a single shot. Also I suspect that macrovision is also disabled but not tried yet. In all good value for money from SONY CHEERS.

CVD? $125 N/A 9 of 10 JPG/JPEG MP3 long filename DivX DVD-RAM Comments: Fanastic player, it'll play just about anything you throw at it with surprisingly clear and crisp picture and audio for a budget player. It doesn't mind what brand of DVD-+R/RW you use, even 99% of the cheap and nasty DVD discs play fine(although I don't recommend using them) SVCD and VCD play great, with a very small amount of pixelation. And in Australia you can buy this player region-free from just about anywhere, but if not there is a macrovision and region free hack posted all over the net using a infra red Pda. I can't recommend this player enough. Simply fantastic!

CVD? $350 N/A 8 of 10 JPG/JPEG MP3 long filename MP3 ID3 TAG DVD-RAM Comments: The remote control is fairly big, bigger than usual, it works with most brands of tvs too, but you can only perform limited tasks using the dvd remote for your tv, such as volume up or down, power on or off, and TV\VIDEO. The dvd player definately plays all kinds of burnt dvds, except for DVD-RAM, it has coaxial and optical out, component out and some other stuff, but it doesn't have Rearx2, Frontx2, Centre and Subwoofer out, which is a shame because I really rely on that feature because my sony MHCGS300AV stereo doesn't have optical in, only optical out.
