One question though: the subtiles appear pretty small on the screen. Is there any way to increase their size?

CVD? $? 1 days No rating Comments: In response to one of the previous posts re ntsc colour display ; If your tv isn't ntsc (3.58) compatible, switch line from video to RGB in the setup menu and make sure you connect the player to the correct scart on your TV set (usually if there are 2 scarts, only one of the them will support RGB).

(I am using only srt though). Firmware Upgrade exists only on the sony's europe servers.

CVD? $? 7 days 7 of 10 DivX Comments: A very good DVD unit which plays most formats and region free out of the box (in Oz at least). Unfortunately for me this unit was not compatible with my older Sony TV - KV-X2931S for NTSC discs. With NTSC discs this unit would not output in colour. The TV has two scart plugs and irrespective of whether composite or S-video was used the problem still persisted. It appears that there is some syncing problem between the two re: NTSC 3.58/4.43. The TV autmatically selects the NTSC signal, no manual overide is possible. Even though the DVD player can be set to output either a PAL or NTSC signal (no Auto or Multi is available)this did not help. In the end I returned the unit and opted for a Philips DVP5100K which played the NTSC discs in colour out of the box. This unit also plays all formats such as the Sony but comes with 3 year std warranty (12 months for Sony)and 30 day money back guarantee. Alas no DTS though. Beware those of you with older TV sets and ironically Sony ones at that.

Some problems with some DVD-Rs, but I think is due to the media I'm using (Melody), since I also had the same problem with previous dvd player. Plays DivX without a glitch. It also plays XviD once you do what the previous post suggested, change the FourCC settings of the file to DivX.

CVD? $? 60 days No rating DivX XviD Comments: Good player but it really is a hassel to recode and rewrite xvid files, even if it is just using avic encoder. 90% of my collection is xvid and it would take days and hundreds of dvd disks to recode these. I think sony should have thought about how popular xvid is and done something about it. I contacted them already but i know more about this player than they do. On some websites it actually states that this unit does play xvid. I will never buy another sony.

For XVIDs it is necessary to use FourCC to change the code information from XVID to DIVX. After that XVIDs (and DIVX Files) work very well up to 720x576 pixels. The player is DIVX-certified. I've tested VCD, SVCD, DIVX and XVID Files on CD-R, CD-RW, DVD+R, DVD+RW and DVD+R DL successfully.
