N/A No rating Comments: I want to buy a new NS 405, but I am not able to see the model any famous shops. I could see NS-430, 730 series. Also, I could not commonly locate 705. Saturn, Mediamarkt, etc. My questions are: * Did sony discontinue the models 405 OR plans to discontinue them in the near future? * Why aren't they available OR where can I get info about the possible discontinuation of the product? * If so, can I go for NS-430? Other questions: * I want to buy creative decoder DDTS-100, with a Creative Inspire 7.1 speaker system for my Sony DVD player. So, I don't need the decoder inbuilt with sony. Also, I need Optical digital out. I need only Sony.

CVD? $125 N/A 8 of 10 JPG/JPEG DivX Comments: Muy, muy buen reproductor, con prestaciones básicas de mucha calidad, aunque quizás algo reducidas para lo que ahora se lleva. Imagen muy buena; sonido muy bueno; sonido de mp3., también muy bueno. En mi opinión, tiene dos carencias que se hacen notar: la falta de reproducción aleatoria en mp3., y, sobre todo, la ausencia de zoom. Si tuviera esta última función yo lo calificaría con 9 de 10. Magníficos pre-ajustes de video -y también, de sonido...-; un mando a distancia muy "efectivo" y cómodo de manejar; sencillez y gran comodidad de uso a todos los niveles. Ningún problema para reproducir VCD, SVCD (firm. 1.901), XVCD, XSVCD, DVD's de alquiler, etc... Transmite sensación de calidad, confort, y bien hecho. Muy buen lector, aunque no tenga muchas "lucecitas" ... ;---)) 119 euros.

It provides me with a great sound and picture, and I didn't have to pay a lot for it either :) Probably the best player in its league.

Read VCD, Mp3 (VBR), truble read mp3 on TDK (skip tracks), Audio CD Text display only Album Title, don't display Tracks Title and Artist (why !!! i write CD Audio with CD with Text Nero 5.5.XX.XX, WinOnCD5.0) On CD with mp3 don't remember position and can't use random play !!! N/A 10 of 10 MP3 long filename Comments: I bought this early this year and have had no problems in any way. My point is this, I am about to purchase a 5.1 system with speakers. I need to know or realise whether it will work correctly, i.e. will it produce true 5.1 sound? Or do I have to purchase another dvd player/speaker package? Sorry if it is a somewhat basic knowledge querie, but I may well be confusing myself. I currently run it through my sony hi-fi, which has it's own surrond option, but all you get is maximum noise and little speech. I also noticed that someone suggested to "just connect two speakers to the phono outputs on the player" does this work? Any help would be greatly appreciated, as we intend to buy a solution in the next few days.. (my birthday pressie for wednesday) L.O.L. I have tried with Verbatim and Philips DVD+R disks, but un sucesful. Did anyone have sucesful play DVD+R disks on this player? Which brand name?

N/A 10 of 10 Comments: Cracking little machine - tried numerous Ritek G03 DVD-R dyes without problems at all (Traxdata, One etc). MP3s on CD-R are fine too. One slight bit of advice, if you attempt to play a backup DVD and the machine says "Cannot Play This Disc", it is probably due to the fact that the machine objects to the "VIDEO_TS" and "AUDIO_TS" folders on the DVD-R aren't in capital letters. I've heard some machines are fussy about this and the 405 appears to be one of them. Russ

N/A 10 of 10 Comments: Works fine! Had some problems with playing DVD+R, but it works great now when I know wich firmware to use when I burn them. I´m intrested in firmware 1.9xx, but don´t know where to get it. Talked to sonys service center and they say there are no upgrades of the firmware and they don´t do it. So I would really like to know how/where I can upgrade it.

My Player wouldn't play SVCD's due to an old firmware - I contacted a Sony Service Center - the upgraded the firmware for free ! - I had to send in the player and got it back two weeks later.... Now it playes SVCD :-)

CVD? $250 N/A 10 of 10 Comments: I use Nero 5.5.9 to make VCDs/SVCDs. Excellent VCD playing, all menus work, image very good. SVCDS also play fine, but menu does not work. I have contacted Nero weeks ago, but suprise suprise, no response. Anyway, my DV camera footage when put on an SVCD isn't too far off a DVD when played on this. Ripped DVD copy of Solaris looks great. Sound is perfect for all formats I've tried. There is no Dolby 5.1 output/decoder. So what? it's better to have spent the money on the player, not on audio extras. Just connect the audio phono outputs to expensive stereo/speakers instead. The player looks great. It is totally silent when playing, oozing quality. The draw mechanism is smooth. Remote is the usual muddle, but who cares. Not as deep as a VCR, so if sitting underneath one, the VCR's feet will hang over the back a bit. S-Video output. Great !. Paid £165 in Comet March 2003.

I got Firmware 1.901 and every burned DVD was playes excellent. Sound, Video excellent !
