| Until now Sony offers the firmware upgrade whish is a plus feature. DivX playback supported with subtittle and audio selection. Great navigation through MP3 files and DivX files. Very good slim-line design and relatively cheap. I expect a new firmware to support the bigger than 2gb DivX format. |

Bought it on sale here in Sweden. At first didn't play xvid but I soon found new firmware upgrade from 1.90 to 2.20. With new firmware it did play xvid with subtitles in separate .srt file. So I went down again (to OnOff) and bought another on for a friend as well!
I have great experience with Philips DVP-630 wich is very similar to this Sony NS33 but the NS33 seems easier to handle and navigate. It has long filenames on divx/xvid files, no need to choose subtitlefile separately, if the file is in the same folder and has the same file name.
So far only tested some backup DVDR's on DVD+R media but with excellent reliability. Only tested 4 Xvid movies, but some of them were divided in two parts with separate .srt-files, but they worked fine. The NS 33 even automagically started the next part with the right sub-file! The Philips 630 doesn't do that.
Since divx/xvid and DVD-films are my main concerns thats what I tested here. |
