We bought the Sony DVP-NS325 7 years ago and it still plays perfectly. We don't have cable or satellite so all we do is watch movies (we have over 500 DVDs) & listen to music cd's. We use it a lot everyday for anywhere from 6-12 hours and have never had a single issue. It has taken a lot of abuse. An unexpected suprise is that it plays regin 1 NTSC & region 2 PAL discs without any problems so we have a good dvd collection of movies not available or out of production here in the U.S. We can also watch recorded cd's and dvds such as our baby's hospital ultrasounds on dvd. I couln't be happier with it!

I've had the 325 about 3yrs. It's ok 4 a low cost universal player. Good job SONY.....If the audio is to loud or distorted go into the audio setup menu. SONYS have an attenuator for audio. Turn the att on. This will lower the audio volume if it seems distorted or overdriven. Many DVDs can have low audio volume. This can be very useful. Read the owners manual.....The only disappointment I have for the new players is, controls and navigation is very minimul on the front panel. If u want to program the new players the TV needs to be on to program it. Might be a good idea to keep your cd player.

I have been looking for a player that displays a good widescreen picture on a five year JVC 36" tube. Easier said than done! I will not upgrade to HDTV until the Blueray/HD-DVD winner is chosen. I ran across this player on Sony's website and thought I would give it a try. This player has had no problem quickly loading and playing any DVD. DVD+R, DVD-R, etc. That said, the biggest plus is the picture. The anamorphic downconversion is amazing. No motion artifacts, no jaggies, no stairstepping... You can find this player refurbished from Sony. I liked it so much, I ordered another one. Easily outclasses any player I have tried.

It plays DVDs well, but I can`t understand why my DVD Player doesn't play any of my VCDs... I`ve tried with Sony CD-R and Verbatim CD-R and it's impossible to play the VCDs...
If anyone can tell me how do you burn the VCDs, it woult be great...
My email is: marianomenkes@hotmail.com
Please, if you could play VCDs NTSC with this DVD player send me an email telling me how you did it (which dimention you used and those things).

Good, solid DVD player.
Prime example of what a DVD player should be.
It sticks to it's strengths and never faulters.

It was officially my first DVD player ever and I've had for probably 3 years now.

In those 3 years it has played only that which it advertised it would, nothing it wouldn't.

I've left it for months at a time accumulate dust or just lay in my closet not doing anything but when I'd pull it out, it would still operate like the day I got it.

That to me is synonymous of proper engineering.

I might have gotten the inverse of a lemon; a product possibly superior to it's peer production units, I can't say, but if my experience can speak to the solid nature of the entire product line, so be it.

It's made me a devout fan of Sony as a result.

Ok, enough ranting.

Even if you find this model refurbished, I'm willing to bet it'll still work fine (I never ever endorse the purchase of anything refurbished, this is one of those rare exceptions). It's just a really solid and reliable DVD player, I can't say much more than that.

Enjoy it if you can, I know I will keep doing so!

Overall, a good DVD player. Good price for all of the formats it plays. I paid $100 for it but this was two or three years ago. My only disappointments are that it doesn't play JPEG and I had bought a 50-pack of Memorex DVD-R 16x 4.7 GB discs and they freeze and skip on it. However, I just bought a 25-pack of Fujifilm DVD-R 8x 4.7 GB and they work great, so that problem is solved. Also, if you're looking to play music on this unit, don't waste your time. It does support MP3 and the text for it but CD's just sound like garbage on it, like it's overdriven. But if you're looking for a cheap-priced unit that plays a wide variety, it's a good choice.

This baby played everything off both my benq 1620s/ I/O Magic 16x-EMPA build/ Cyberhome dvr-1500 tv home recorder/
HP 460C dvd-rw/Khpermedia +8x pc drives. Plus/dash/booktyped dvd-rom +r/+rw/-r/+r DL/original dvds/cd/vcd/using taiyo yuden/maxell/verbatim. Even cmags played great!

This baby played my dvd backups flawless up till 2 weeks ago.If it didn't recognize a disc,it was usually one of my cyberhome recorder discs that wasn't finalized. It even detected a new encryption on the columbia pictures.

I played so many dvds in it,it just started freezing.A cleaning disc helped, but the freezing started on my dual layer backups again.I had to put her to rest.

I have been using this player for well over a year now. Do not do alot with this player but record movies and shows off of the TV. Here are my updates about this player.

I have used Memorex DVD+RW 4X and have had no problems recording. The recordings currently play in all of my players, Sony DVP-NS325, Sony DVP-S360, and in my vehicle on an Alpine IVA-D310 multimedia station.

I tried the Memorex DVD-R 4X and these discs will not play on any of my players listed above.

Has played everything I've thrown at it with the exception of Staples DVD-RW discs. ("Cannot play this disc" error.)

Memorex DVD+RW works fine.

The picture quality is superb. I specifically bought this unit because cNet reviewed it as having one of the best chipsets around for scaling a 16:9 picture to a 4:3 TV, and I haven't been disappointed.

Have tried several discs of different brands and file types; TDK, Sony, GQ and Samsung; DVD+R discs play great in DVD, SVCD, VCD and XSVCD formats as long as they were burned using Nero.

The discs I burned using Roxio "Drag To Disc" would not play at all regardless of the brand of disc or file type(the same discs play fine using my el cheapo Norcent player).

The picture is superb and the super slim design is nice as it can fit into a fairly narrow space.
The unit lacks a zoom feature but to be honest with you the previous DVD players I owned did have the zoom feature and I have never used it so no loss there.
The picture mode will change the contrast, black levels, sharpness and color intensity with just a push of the button on the remote so as to accomodate individual preferences.

The player is a nice looking unit and comes with a very good manual as well as a good universal remote with good TV functionality.

For the price I doubt that I could find a better DVD player.

Bought this player for $69 at Shirokiya in Ala Moana Center in Honolulu. Tried playing DVD-R media from Maxell and TDK. Tried playing DVD+R media from Maxell, Memorex, and Arita. So far they all work fine. Progressive Scan was not important since I don't have a HD television. Nice ultra slim design and a great price. DVD+&-Rs were created with DVD Decrytper, DVDShrink, & CopyToDVD. Burned with a TDK 840G External burner at 2x & 2.4x speed.

Very happy. I bought this to replace a Philips unit which would not recognize DVD-R's nor DVD-RW's. The same discs which would not play in the Philips worked flawlessly in this unit, and every DVD-R I've made since has worked too.

All commercial DVD's have worked perfectly.

I was seeking compatibility, and I found it. I've since recommended this unit to friends and family, all of whom have purchased it and been delighted. It's been replaced by the NR425, but the NS325 is still available at many vendors for around $80.

I'm sending yet another one to my wife's grandfather as a gift as soon as I finish typing this. Can't think of a stronger recommendation!

I really liked the "specs" of this player before I purchased it and I had almost assumed that it might be very similar to the combo VCR/DVD unit I bought my parents last year (but without the VCR part).

LOVED the features and the long-filename support for MP3's. I also noticed on this player that when you burn MP3's that some are loud and some are quieter that the player seemed to play them all at the same volume. NICE!

There is no RANDOM button to hit like my previous Pioneer DVD player. You have to do some weird things to get this feature to happen.

Complaint #1: All of my DVD-R's (except for a couple) do not work in this player. All of these were Maxell's and worked fine on any other player I've played them on. Did not have problems at all with any of my DVD+R's or DVD+RW's.

Complaint #2: SVCD playback sucks. Chapters don't work and most of all, the audio gets skewed as much as 5 second delay's. If you fast forward and then reverse back to the same point, the audio will correct itself but as it keeps playing the audio gets farther and farther out of sync. NOT acceptable to me.

I really wanted this player to be a good one but I have to say I am disappointed with it and will be taking it back to get the Pioneer. I've always had Pioneer from laserdisc to DVD and have never been disappointed. Let's see if their el-cheap-o $78 model at Wal-Mart meet my standards.

Got this a week ago and it has flawlessly played everything I've put on it - DVD-R, DVD+R, DVD+RW, SVCD, VCD. No freezing, no skipping.

Burned with an LG-4040B, have tried Fuji (DVD-R), Memorex (DVD+RW, DVD+R) and Maxell (DVD+R), all worked great.

Not progressive scan and no optical out (but coax works great). Great value for the $.

just here to make a comment about the Pal SVCD problem. it's not the framerate that it doesn't like, it's the dimensions. many XVCDs and XSVCDs work depending on what resolution they are. so, resizing the 480*576 Pal SVCD to a 480*480 NTSC SVCD will work fine.

Bought it for $88.64 + taxes from Walmart to replace my Toshiba SD-1600. Before that I had a Toshiba SD-1800. The SD-1800 died after 1yr and the SD-1600 died after about 3 months. The SD-1600 was the replacement for the SD-1800. The Sony seems to start playing DVD's alot faster than the Toshiba's. Plays Memorex DVD-R (4x), DVD+R, FujiFilm DVD-RW. The only feature of the Toshiba I really liked is the remote control zoom feature, which allows you to zoom in on a widescreen movie and make it more like a full screen. The Sony does not have such a remote control feature. Overall I think the Sony is better quality.

I'm not so sure as everyone here that this one plays evething. I couldn't get this one to play my DVD-RW. All those DVD-RW are DVDXCOPY backups that are working prefectly on my Pioneer DV-333

I'll try to see if DVD+RW works better...

Comments:
Bought this player at Walmart for $88 to upgrade a Toshiba 2700. Support for the DVD+R format and SVCDs sold me the most. Most of the players in the same price range only supported DVD-R.

So far, I've played an SVCD, a VCD, and a homemade DVD w/ chapters and menus (burned on a DVD+R) with no problems. MP3 CD-R's also work and has a decent interface for accessing the songs. Sadly, the play options are limited though with no shuffle or random functions.

This player is really thin. I'd say just under 3 inches tall. About half the size of my old Toshiba. It's also very light.

Overall, I'm satisfied with this purchase. For now. ;)
