Upgraded from four year old Sony model that didn't play CD-R's nor DVD+R's. Wanted multi disc player and needed it to work for DVD+R DL. Had success with Verbatim DVD+R DL.

1. Copied DVD to HD using DVD Decrypter saving it as ISO file.
2. Put DVD+R DL into Sony DRU700 burner and just to be sure, used DVDINFO to set Booktype to DVD-ROM.
3. Burned DVD+R DL using ISO/MDS file from above and DVD Decrypter
4. After burning, checked Booktype with DVDINFO and it showed as DVD-ROM
5. Put DVD+R DL into Sony 875 player and works great.

Don't know if step 2 is necessary so perhaps next person can try it without changing Booktype.

This disc changer is very good. I had been shopping for a DVD player to replace my broken panasonic. I picked this up from a local retailer and I have to say, overall I am very pleased. I love the multi-disc changer. It can even exchange discs while one is playing. There are a few gripes. It would be nice if DVD MP3's played. I also think that SOny's decision to do internal decoding of SACD's is pretty weak. It makes for a mess of wires in the back. To the person who posted before me, I'm not sure if you tried this or not, but when the MP3 disc loads up, if you press menu or display (I can't remember which, I'm going off of memory here), it will give you a list of all folders/MP3's on the disc. It's much better than playing the disc and pressing "album skip" on the remote.

Highly recommended player. The video quality is excellent with both the S-Video and Component cables. The sound quality is likewise excellent, with both Dolby 5.1 and DTS right out of the box. You really can't go wrong with this, since it is similiarly priced to some single disc players.

Comments:
A fine player, but would have been nicer for me if it could also play DVD-MP3s.

However, I bot this because it has a set of decoded 5.1 audio outputs and wasn't that much more expensive than a single-disc one (Toshiba 4960).

Doesn't play as many diff formats as my Magnavox 458.

Has a nice "instant replay" button like my Tivo, but I haven't figured out how many seconds it goes back and it kinda slow, not "instant" like on a Tivo.

CD-MP3 playback has poor UI. It can't display all the MP3s on the disc, just plays them and if you hit the remote, it can display the name of the one playing. That's poor. So even if it could play DVD-MP3's it would be a pain to guess where the song you want to play is.

OTOH, if you "zoom" the video, it contantly places a "2x" (or whatever) icon on the upper right which is annoying.

Sony's user interface stinks for a Sony. Manual is weak. I hope this thing doesn't die on me like the other Sony's I've owned... Oops :-( I shoulda gotten the extended warranty :-)

I had an old DVD player, a 1 disk sony. (unknown model at this time). I knew it was time to upgrade when I found this beauty on a site for $120. It is a great playr. Played memorex and maxell DVD+R, burned at 2.5x and 4x. Played memorex mp3 CD-R and CD-RW's. previous guy is right, fixed bitrate had no issues, but VBR was off on some extreme hits. didn't check for long filename support. the sound output was great, as was the video. i am using a sony reciever (forgot the model #) and sony speakers also. it is hooked up with the s-video and digital optical out.

Comments:
Overall a nice DVD player; it transitions smoothly between chapters and is fairly quick to start up and play discs. My major complaint is that while it does play VBR mp3s, it does so with the introduction of some obnoxious pops and clicks on higher-frequency sounds like hihats. Constant-bitrate mp3s seem to be unaffected, though I haven't tried any higher than 256kbps.
