| I have had this unit for a while now, it has been great. it plays dvd-r, dvd+r, svcd, vcd, I have not been disapointed. I don't know why some people have had problems playing a dvd-r with this player ? I have over 200 and it playes them all fine. |

This is actually my second 665 purchase; my other 665 is in my bedroom. I wanted to move my older 655 from the living room to a spare room, so I bought the new Sony 875 SACD/DVD changer, but I was very unhappy with the picture quality - very grainy and pixellated. I thought it might have had something to do with the SACD capability, since I saw the same cruddy picture with the Pioneer 578A, so I exchanged the 875 for the Sony 675 -- same grainy picture.
I found a 665 online, and it produces the same flawless picture as my other 2 Sony changers! I'm tempted to buy another one while I can get my hands on one, just so I have a "spare". Normally,I'm a big sony fan; I don't know what they changed, but I don't like their new DVD changers! It's a shame. |

Would play DVD-R's that I recorded using a Sony burner (510) then that burner took a giant crap and they replaced it with the 530 model and I couldn't get any of the -R discs to play, though I could play them on my computer. Go figure. This is true of Imation, TDK, Fuji, Maxell, Sony DVD-R media.
Plays any DVD+R that I've tried, regardless of the brand of media.
No probs at all with rented or bought DVD's.
I wish it would play DVD mp3's, and that it had a zoom function, otherwise a pretty solid changer. |

| Plays SVCDs and VCDs fine, perfect quality. Plays a cheap brand DVD-R that I have but will not play Skye Media brand DVD-Rs. For the price and features, its excellent. I would (and have) recommend it to anyone wanting a good 5-disc changer that plays SVCDs and VCDs. |

| I love this DVD player, but I noticed that some DVDs, particularly those in Star Trek TV series, show image stutter and choppy scene edits from time to time (showing both the former shot and the next shot at the same time in one frame). |

| hey KcT, I had the same issue and noticed two factors. problem svcd was on cheap media and on my glichy cd writer at work. reburned cd at home with more stable cd writer on better media...memorex...IT WORKED FINE. not sure which factor was the problem or maybe both...but thats my experience. do you still have the dvd player or did you return it? i replaced my polaroid divx player for this and i am quite happy |

| Works great on burned DVD's using Nero. Nero Rocks. Roxio is pile of dung, but still works. Used TDK DVD-R and +R. Also used Fuji Film +R. All flawless. Only downside is the mp3 portion does not recognize mp3's on a DVD disc. Is there a DVD player that is progressive and does this? |

| Curiously, although this player won't play or recognize a single computer-burned dvd-r disc (I'm using Pinnacle's Studio 8 program) it WILL play the dvd-r's that come out of my stand-alone panasonic DMR-E80H machine. Maybe it's because of the the true 1X dubbing speed the panasonic uses. Don't know. I'd rate this machine higher if it really played all listed formats without any difficulty. |

Hey I bought this DVD player from CIRCUIT CITY... Plays everything I thow at it. SVCD's look better and sharper than the APEX. Also it is quiet and it works and it will continue to work for years to come. Unlike Apex.
Best Buy Sucks.... There Prices Are Too HIGH....
People that work there are also stupid and know nothing.
Circuit City is GREAT !!! I will shop again. The people helped me right with what I needed for the right price. :) |

| I had to get rid of my Panasonic RP62 because I was getting major artifacting/compression blocks when I played DVD -R's. Bought this Sony tonight and I'm very impressed. Build quality seems good, lots of menu options, and most importantly, it has played EVERYTHING I have thrown at it - DVD -R's, DVD +RW's, SVCD's, etc. That's only in one night, more to follow. What shocked me the most is the fact that a Girls Gone Wild SVCD I burnt a while back played perfectly in the 665, where it failed to in the Panasonic, my Sony N300 (5 yrs old), and a buddy's brand new (got it 2 weeks ago) Sony combo DVD/VHS player. His claimed that it was SVCD capable, but there's definitely a difference under the hood between these two. . . Very happy. The Sage Faroudja chipset in my Panasonic put out a superior picture in my opinion, but the Sony is very good, no complaints. I'll deal with a fractional difference in picture quality to have the perfect playback with DVD -R's. On a side note, I didn't even have to enable Block Noise Reduction, which the 665 has three levels of. I imagine if I ever run into any of these, that will take care of it. |

I don't know if its the VCDs i made or what, but the VCD/SVCD I have played stops midway and just freezes. I have tried all the suggestions from all the posts previous but to no avail. Is anyone else having the same problem? I might just return this DVD player and get a cheap Cyberhome or Apex.... Any help will be appreciated.
Thanks |

| This player ran everything I threw at it. I burned Verbatim dvd+r and dvd+rw disks using Roxio, Nero, and NeoDVD. Also used Ricoh dvd+r disks. All worked flawlessly. I also burned cd/r and cd/rw disks in vcd format. Worked flawlessly. I am using a Plextor 4x burner. I tested mostly from slide shows I made. Picture output from dvd player is excellent. Very pleased with this player. I will update this as I try to burn other formats. Sony claims and supports dvd-r and dvd-rw support for this player. |

Great player, plays almost everything I've thrown at it, including cvd and dvd full resolution with Mpeg1 files. Chapters work on SVCD's ONLY with the vcd header trick which is sort of a pain.
Chapters work great on vcd's. Xvcd's look great. Not much room on the xsvcd bitrate before it starts skipping.
Still, a great 5 disc changer with a beautiful picture for under $200. |

I think this player has been unfairly rated i mean come on no pal to ntsc converter read the damn box next time. If you don't know what you buying go somewhere and find some information.
Now i don't burn dvd, i'm mostly vcd, svcd.
But this player has played everything fine in both pal and ntsc. It has played vcd, svcd, xvcd, xsvcd and kvcd without a problem or hitch.
Don't know the bitrate because i don't feel like going back and checking.
It's funny that the sony 655 model is one of the highest rated changers on this site and this one is rated so low, they are the exact same changer only difference is the 665 has a few added features that no one will use anyways.

I just picked up this unit at CircuitCity for $139 as a demo model. Regular price is $179. There is a blowout table with some price reductions. I asked for a reduction from $159 and got it.
One user commented about DVD-R issues. I had no trouble playing any of my TDK 2x or Ritek 4x DVD-Rs. My Maxell 1x DVD-RWs also worked.

Contrary to Sony claim, does not read DVD-R or DVD+R. Duplicate of commercial DVD via DVD XCopy recorded to either DVD-R or DVD+R (did not try DVD-RW or DVD+RW) would not even recognize the disc. Sony claims will only read commercial DVD-R.
I am returning to exchange with a Panasonic F85. Too bad, because the machine would otherwise be rather nice. But since it doesn't work. (BTW: Duplicates are of personally owned commercial disks. Two of my commercial disks have become damaged by frequent use, at $40 a pop. Thank you, I'll play the copy and save the original). |

I am a Sony person, always have been.
But, I'm returning this one to the store....
The ONLY reason I'm returning is the lack of an internal PAL to NTSC converter.
I really like the player, but I need the PAL to NTSC support.
My old Sony S560D had it.
Strange part is that it will actually play PAL SVCD's, just not PAL DVD.
Oh well, I've also been testing a JVC, and it does have PAL to NTSC built-in (it also supports SVCD menus, subs, and audio tracks - of which the Sony only supports audio tracks).

| This machine is built very well. Quiet, and smooth in use. The quality of playback is superb, and the setup features are very good. It plays back original movies as well as replications. I use Fuji, Sony, and Imation dvd blanks to copy. My authoring software includes Roxio, Nero, and DVDxCopy. My burner is a Sony 500. Can't go wrong with this one. |

| Purchased this model to replace my early-generation Toshiba SD-2109, and so far I have been very pleased. Video and audio quality are superb. Feature set appears to be pretty complete. Construction quality is great. I've watched a handful of standard DVD's without incident. I've also burned 7 SVCD's on Imation and TDK compact disc media using Roxio Toast, and playback has been flawless. |

| State of the ART!!! The image quality is the BEST I have seen. This is my fourth DVD player. Plays TV episode(Stargate with menu) DVD's flawlessly(4 hours of episodes). Episodes burned with Decrypyter, copy2one, copyDVD(The best burner I have used, easier and better results than Nero). DVD shrink is good also. It plays all of my burned DVD+R/RW flawlessly(Ritek, Fuji). Very full featured, it may be too complicated for some people (Especialy the setup). It will play most everything you want to throw at it. Open box sale at BestBuy for $129. |

This player worked great with 1 exception:
It does not play MP3 songs in Random mode, it always starts from the beginning of each disk.
One great feature is it does play DVD-Video Chapters in random - Great for concert video's when you want an assortment of music. Even randomizes DVD-Audio disc.
DVD-Audio disc plays in Dolby Digital or DTS (no Advanced Surround mode).
I really liked this unit compaired to others I tried, but the inability to play MP3 in random made me buy the Onkyo 701 changer. |
