| I am happy with the way this player works. Plays everything I've tried. Only thing that's been pissing me off is the DVD Titles. 4 times now the entire catalog of DVD titles have been wiped out when trying to enter a new DVD. Usually about a month into using it, I would open the door, add another DVD and close the door. It starts reading the disk and loads. When I try to go to Folder View, it sits there for about a minute, hen shuts down. Upon turning it one again, every movie title is wiped out and I have to re-enter over 200 movies, one at a time. What causes this and is there a fix? |

| When we purchased the Sony player two (or more) years ago, it would play all DVD-Rs recorded on our Panasonic DMR-E85H. A few months ago, we added a Panasonic DMR-EH75V to our equipment layout, and found that DVD-Rs recorded on the new Panasonic WILL NOT PLAY on the Sony. In fact, when the Sony encounters them, it completely powers off. Sony tech support could not explain this. Panasonic provided a firmware upgrade that they said might solve the problem, but it did not. Panasonic tech support came up with a story that Sony equipment was designed to favor the +R format, and Panasonic to favor the -R, so in order to play DVDs recorded on the new Panasonic, we should record in +R. I don't know if there is any truth to this, and we have not yet tried a +R recorded disc in the Sony player, but I find it suspicious that -R discs recorded on the old Panasonic play fine on the Sony player, but not -R discs recorded on the new Panasonic. |

Great player. My only complaint is that it starts playing automatically when turned on. Often when I turn it on, I'm adding a DVD so have to wait.
To those complaining about Jacket Pictures earlier, I had a tough time getting them to work myself. But I found the secret. Jacket Pictures WILL NOT appear if burned on -R/-RW media. It HAS TO BE +R/+RW. This realization was made after many coasters. You'll find the commercial ones work immediately this way.
As far as making them, I make them either with DVD-LAB Pro Extentions, or manually with TMPEGENC+2.5 There's a few tutorials out there on this. I do it like this one :
http://forum.videohelp.com/viewtopic.php?t=235177 ... %20picture
I even do the hex edits like he does and have not had one fail since. |

This player is well worth the price I paid for it. It
is not the easiest player to set up, but once you catch on to the "SONYSPEAK" of the manual,it becomes
manageable. It reads very few titles on Mfg. DVD'S,so
be prepared to enter info with remote. Mine only loses the title of Disc-1, 3-times now. The DVD Up-
Conversion is as good or better than my $650 LG HD
Tuner/Up-Converting DVD Player. The CD'S play great,
but the Sub-Woofer out on the SACD player is a bit
picky.Prefers straight line to Sub rather than thru
Yamaha 5760.The other outputs are not a problem.
All in all, a good deal $250 or less. |

This player only plays NTSC DVDs and CDDA for my needs,
I bought a Sony DVP-CX985V as Sony DVP-CX995V did not serve my needs.
With kids in the house, Sony DVP-CX985V, is a dream come true!

Anyone knows how to make this player run regions 1 to 6 dvd discs?
I live in Brazil and I must know if there is a way to make this dvd-player region free before buying it!
Thanks |

for the Price its great, using the explorer to list your DVD's it even doesnt list quite a few bought DVD's and doesnt list any of my CD's unless its SACD.
the unit can loose its memory " known flaw" for no reason. Unless you create a title for the DVD," i use TitleWriter" it wont list a title for a copied DVD.
its HDMI output and upconvert works great. definitly a better picture quality than the earlier models even sony's flagship 400 changer the 777es. i would recommend buying this unit. |

I am extreamly upset by this player.
I find that all 400 of my burned DVD's that include JACKET_P folders and Artist/Title information added to the DVD's WILL NOT WORK!!!!
Apparently Sony has changed the rules for how JACKET_P folders must be stored on disk and all my disk Title/Artist information is reduced to Title Information ONLY!. I am very upset to say the least since the format of these two items has been painstakingly decoded by much hard work by everyone. I have 400 DVD's that work fine in my Sony DVP-CS985 player. But.. Now I have to figure out what Sony want on the disks for the DVP-CS995 player to work.
The worst part? I have a disk with a factory supplied JACKET_P folder on it and IT WON'T WORK EITHER!!!!
I am worried that sony has dropped support for the JACKET_P folder and I will have to manually capture the video image of each movie and store it in memory. I would return this hunk of junk if I had not allready thrown away the box.. and buy a refurbished DVP-985 jukebox instead.
Oh well
BEWARE OF THIS JUKEBOX IF YOU USE JACKET_P FOLDERS AND TITLEWRITER FOR DISK EXPLORER TO USE!!!!
FIND THE DVP-CXP985 on sale and buy it instead.

| Fairly quiet, and not too slow. It does take a long time to load a disc, but oh well--there aren't that many 400 disc megachangers out there, especially at this price. The disc explorer is significantly improved over past models, but still lacks in functionality. I had really expected to be able to create my own named categories. Genre selection is fairly thin, with no subgenres. The overall functionality of the unit is impressive, and the knobs and buttons are well placed on the unit and the remote. The HDMI digital output is a big plus--one that I paid hundreds for on my last single-disc Samsung. I was disappointed that these are not linkable, and I, like many people, only have one HDMI/DVI input on their tv. A second unit will have to be component video. I'm really quite pleased so far. If I can get it to play DLs, which I haven't tried yet, I'd rank it a 10. |

| Plays everything I have thrown at it. It is a little slow in reading but reads it all. The automatic title finder is lacking a bit and does not get the title to every disk . It takes a little time to set up the menus the way you want but once they are set up, it is real nice (accepts a pc keyboard for input). It would be nice to have a USB port and then I could import title info from the internet (oh well, maybe in a future version). If it was a tad faster, I would give it a 9. Overall, a very nice piece of equipment and another pretty good effort from Sony. |

Beware this unit supports up conversion of DVD to 1080i and 720p ONLY with HDMI output which is HDCP compliant.
This player will NOT send 1080i and 720p output signals on component video output (y cr cb) and hence older HDTV's Projectors can't utilize upconverting feature. |
