CVD? $? over 1 year 10 of 10 Comments: On Sony DVP-CX850D, this is what I have found so far: 1. Maxell CD-R does NOT work for audio. 2. Verbatim DVD-R works for movies. 3. HP DVD+R works works for movies. 4. Sony DVD+RW does NOT work for movies. Hope this helps. Now if I can only hack this player to become multi-region, I would be all set :-)

CVD? $? over 1 year 9 of 10 Comments: I have the same problem with both Verbatim and Memorex DVD+R DL disks. The first time I hit play, the DVD doesn't play. When I hit play again, it works fine. I set the DVD player to single disk mode. Otherwise it moves to the next DVD after failing on the first try.

CVD? $? over 1 year 8 of 10 Comments: This player can't read a dvd compressed in still pictures... it's the only default i found on it. I tried to play a dvd+r dl (Traxdata DVD+R DL 2.4X) and the player read it without any problems.

N/A 8 of 10 Comments: I just used the DVDPro 4.7GB DVD-R i bought from Meritline and the work just great. I also tried the Verbatim DVD-RW 4.7 and it work fine too. They also play in my APEX standalone. I was using my Pioneer DVR-AO1 for burning. I was woried about this becasue I can't play cheap CD-R's in this Sony but I haven't had a single problem with DVD-R or RW's.

N/A 7 of 10 Comments: I have owned the player since December 2000. The 200 disc capacity is great, but the player has limitations, in the user interface. I have had issues with burning CD-RW as VCD if I do not use ‘basic’ VCD. If I use menus or anything else, the player jams. I just got a Sony 510U burner. I have tried Maxell DVD-R, DVD+R, DVD-RW and DVD+RW all worked great. I have never been able to get any CDR to work in the player. With the drop in CDRW prices, I gave up trying. Kevin Cossaboon

N/A No rating Comments: OK, (I'm the same guy as below) I found a +R that did work. The person two posts down did mean Ritek DVD+R. THESE DO WORK. Also, Accumedia -R and Imation DVD+R works. Hopes this helps others that are having trouble with this player.

Here's what I've tried: Imation DVD+R - WORKS Accu Disk DVD-R from Meritline - WORKS Generic DVD-R's - sometimes works Verbatim DVD+R - DOES NOT WORK FUJIFILM DVD+R - DOES NOT WORK IMATION DVD+RW - DOES NOT WORK - though this one may have been an issue with the way it was authored. I'm specifically looking for DVD+R media that works, not DVD-R. Any help would be apreciated. The user below mentioned Ritek disks but I'm not sure if he meant Ritek +R or -R. N/A 10 of 10 Comments: this machine does all is supposed to vcd on sony,packard bell and memorex cdrw xvcd at 2500 bitrate on above discs tried svcd with vcd header trick but did not play, could not get any svcd to play plays dvd=r riteck discs from bigpockets no probs all discs burned with nero on a sony cdrw and ricoh dvd drive will try other formats and disc types later

CVD? $60 N/A 8 of 10 Comments: So far I have not managed to play any VCD2.0 CDs on this player and now have a stack of disks, not helped by having to buy in packs of 10 these days. Have tried Mr Data CD/RW, Sony CD/RW, Office World CD/RW (all silver disc). I MIGHT BE GOING WRONG SOMEWHERE !!! as the player does display a message 'VCD2.0 Player required - switch on PBC function'. It must be getting this from the CD, as the message has ULEAD PictureShow in the background. This is the software used to create the slideshow. Any thoughts ?

Now I'm just getting into burning VCD it has another string to it's bow!! So far cheap (ebuyer.co.uk) silver CDR's don't work but all CD-RW's do Just about to test niceday CDR's will let you know Excellent player

N/A 8 of 10 Comments: Tried Princo DVD-R, DVD-RW, CD-R and all did fine. Viastar CD-R will work perfect. CD-RW should not be a problem at all. I tried 6 Different media and all did fine. Region and Macrohack is possible, but very expensive. About 150€. Is is very difficult and you should not try it by yourself.

Will not play SVCD as normal, but will do if you re-encode SVCD mpeg file to Mpeg1 file in Tmpgenc. Will play Pioneer DVD-R media, and an unbranded one I got, but will not play 'Mirror' DVD-R media.
