| Tried burning a VCD with both CD-R and CD-RW on my Plextor 10x16x drive. Both were 80Min. No luck. I haven't tried with 74Min. |

I made DVD's using Apple's iDVD on Apple DVD-R media. I have a Pioneer Superdrive. Works great.
I tried to play a VCD made on the same computer using TDK 16x 80min CD-R media and it didn't work. |

I have tried sever CD R/RW media and I have not gotten any to work on standalone player. This may have been a function of using an older CR-RW drive (ie Not high speed).
I have since gotten the Sony DRU 500AX Drive so I don't need to use CD media anymore. The Sony DVP-C670D player works with both DVD+R and DVD+RW. However, I have had occasional freezes in the last few minutes of the movie using DVD+RW (Not been a problem with +R.) I use Smartripper to "Rip", DVD2One to "Encode" and RecordNow DX to author to DVD+R/RW (Movie Only) |

| I got this player for all of the audio output options.(Dolby Digital Decoder) I have been very happy with it as far as DVDs go. However, it will not play ANY CD-R media. I tried several different brands, including the 74 min STI brand recommended on this site, and none of them worked. It works great with the CD-RWs that I have tried, but they are more expensive. I purchased a Sony hoping to avoid these kinds of problems... |

| The dvd player itself works great for commercial dvd's. I also use fireburner to burn vcd's onto Verbatim CD-RW's and it works fine. I tried burning a svcd onto a regular CD-R but with no luck. Verbatim CD-RW's are the only type that i've attempted to use since i just watch the movie then erase and re-use them. Would be really nice if it would play svcd's but at least vcd's work ok. |

| Stick to CD-R 74min 650mb media. I burned more than 5 CD-Rs (for VCD use) without any problem so far (I used the brand VivaStar). I ran into one when I burned a Sony CD-R 1x-32x 80min 700mb disc. I don't understand the Sony people: their media does not work with their own players. |

| This is an update to my last post. I have tried all working methods that have been posted here and nothing works. I have also purchased a DRU-500A sony dvd burner, and none of the dvd formats that I have tried work. I dont know how you guys get these to work, but no type of burnt media plays in my DVP-C670D!!! |

| I am going to COMPusa today and am going to try the Black CD-Rs they have. THe bottom are black like PS1 games. Supposedly they are more scratch resistant and are higher quality. I will only purchase a few, and I will also purchase STI 74min CD-Rs and test those also. |

| I recently purchased a DVD-R qps external drive, video explosion, and DVD complete software, and the player came with Nerodvd standard software. I have made DVDs from video explosion which comes with MyDVD and DVDComplete, and both work great on my Sony DVD player. I have first used the Qps DVD-R, and I also used memorix DVD-R. The only reason why I give this dvd player an 8 is because I tested with no succes vcd and burned music cds on this dvd player. It was not an extensive test, but it was fustrating not geting it to run other media. |

| Soon after I purchased this unit, i realised that it would not play my CDR's. I contacted sony and their tech support told me to burn my cdrs at single speed.... which i tried but not difference. Every now and then one of my CDRs (which i leave in the tray) starts to work and plays the whole way through. the Sony tech tried to explain to me that it was because the DVP-C670D uses a different wavelength laser to read therefore has difficulty reading any "burnt" cds. PS I have had my player multizoned by a hardware mod. |

| I love this dvd player, but I have read seveal reviews that it does not play other formats, and very picky with media types. I have tried making vcds from memorix cdr and sony cd-rw and I would always get an error. I have read tant HP CDRW works and I will try soon. Does this media work with Mp3s and VCDS? Also, I plan on purchasing a DVD Burnner soon, and I am wodering if this dvd player will read DVD-R format. I have read that DVD-R is compatible with most set-top boxes, and if anyone has tested DVD-R with this box, please give us a report? My other option is to purchase soy playstation2 remote or another dvd player. Thanks! |

| Only works with commercailly produced DVDs. I purchased mine in Jan '01 and it is already dead after only a year and a half. It was never moved or abused. For no apparent reason the tray is frozen shut and the only thing the player will do is flash a disfuction/error message on the display. According to the manual this is some kind of self diagnostics. I called the SONY 1-800 number and was told that the error code displayed on my player idicated that there was something wrong with the disc pickp and it will cost $167 to repair it! I can buy a newer model Sony 5 disc player according today's paper for only $159. Of course I will never buy another SONY after the poor longevity of this one and I'd have to be crazy to get this one fixed, especially when it never played anything but DVD, and CD, No CDR, No CDRW, No MP3 or other DV formats. I would never buy anything costing more than $100 ever again either. Paying extra for the name SONY didn't get me anywhere. For $59 I can buy an APEX that plays anything in any format. If I get only a year and a half at least I won't feel cheated. It may not be a 5 disc changer either, like the SONY, but I strongly believe my machine would not be disfunctional if not for the fact that it is a multi-disc player with more things to go wrong. There are very few advantages to having a multi-disc player. Think carefully about why you want a multi-disc player before you buy it. This one cost me 5X the money of the one I'll buy to replace it. For me, it wasn't worth it. |

Are we talking about the same machine here - 5 disc carousel says dvp c670d on the front. Tried the following on a matshita cd-rw cw-7586 8x/4x with adaptec easy cd creator v. 4.02f: in the 74 min cd -rw category tried: memorex 4x multispeed; maxell no name; verbatim datalifeplus 4x-10x high speed (message not enough space on disc); sony 650df formatted for adaptec directcd (got the same lack of space message).
In the cd-r category 74 min sub-category tried: maxell music (no other name) (actually that's it for that category hard to find up here in toronto). In the 80 min sub-category tried: memorex no name; verbatim: 1x-24 datalifeplus; 1x-16x datalifeplus and RCA 16x speed.
Nothing has worked!
Does the high-speed thing really make a difference and if so why? Any help would be appreciated.
PS - would have rated the player higher if it played the r rw discs.

I have it working well with STI brand (Circuit City) CDR's both 74 minutes and 80 minutes. I have tried with various software like, NTI,Easy CD,Nero. All work fine for both Audio and VCD.
Tried with Memored 8x-10X CD-RW. Works fine with all the above software for both Audio and VCD.
Tried with HP DVR-RW, MyDVD software and Impression DVD, works fine. |

Downside.. wont autoplay DVD or VCD's..
CDR need to be 74min I have it working on 74min 8x Datastream CDR's, 16x CDRs from Datastream wont work.
Pioneer 4x 74mins these didnt work.. so seems to be very fussy about type/color.
Best Buy 1x CDRW dont work reliably..
Will be the last Sony product I buy..
All VCD's created using Ulead Video Studio and DVD Plugin, on Sony CRX1611 CDR drive. |

| I have discovered that you CAN use the very light green CDRs to make VCDs that play in this drive. However, it doesn't like the 80-minute type. Stick with the 74-minute disks. The light green Princo 74 min. is a brand that has worked very well for me. Also as mentioned previously the Memorex CDRWs work as well. Since I get a DVD+RW drive for Christmas, I'm about to try that format also to see what happens. HP claims disks burned with this drive to be compatible with this model. We'll see. |

| I really enjoy the player and got a great deal at a wholesale club but I was very disappointed when it didn't play VCD created on CD-R disks (Only tried memeorex). I was lucky enough to find this site and the previous posts and tried the HP suggestion from John and BINGO I was in luck! I used Ulead DVD PictureShow and HP 4X CD-RW disc's. The disks have the "Multi-Play" Logo, this may be the key! This is a standard from OSTA.org that support interoperability between formats and players. But who cares, I'm back in action!!!! Thanks for the help! |

| I received this unit about a year ago and have really enjoyed it. The only frustration was trying to create VCDs to work on it. I finally discovered that the unit does NOT like CD-R media. I used HP CD-RW disks and was able to view VCDs created with the Ulead DVD MovieFactory software. Now I can finally convert some of my old VHS tapes to disk! |
