CVD? $? over 1 year 5 of 10 Comments: Worked on the first try with Sony DVD+R media, Sony DRU-710A DVD burner, and Nero Burning ROM 6 SE (came with the burner). I figured if I keep everything Sony the I will have the best luck. :) Will try other (i.e. cheaper) media next, including DVD+RW so I can experiment with different settings.

CVD? $300 over 1 year 7 of 10 Comments: Read the reviews and since 2 people were success with writing out using Sony DVD+RW and playing on this DVD player, that's the route I tried. Worked without a hitch. I've tried writing out CDs but didn't have success (but didn't know about this site at the time so when Best buy worker recommended that I search here before doing anything, that's what I did). Thanks Best Buy:)

CVD? $400 N/A 5 of 10 DVD-RAM Comments: I have had this player for about 3 years now. And i finally just put it in storage, although I have not used it for over 2 years. My opinion is that if you buy store bought dvd movies/music cd's, and rent real movies from a video store, then this is an excellent dvd player. If you want to play your own burned +/- dvdr's then stay away. no matter what brand of blank dvd i tried, name brands like maxell/memorex or just cheap no names - it would start to skip and artifact after about 30-40 mins into any movie. my pioneer 525 never had an issue using the same discs.I have just replaced this with a Sony 725 and it plays everything this 660 would not. I rate it a five as store bought dvd's are only half of what i need a dvd player for.

Using I/O Magic DVD+RW Drive, CopyToDVD software from a burned DVD-R that someone else created. PS2 played both Video/Audio fine though.

CVD? $200 N/A 8 of 10 Comments: I have successfully got the following two DVD's to play on this player: Memorex DVD-R - authored with MyDVD with menus, burnt out to DVD folder and burnt with Nero on the Sony DRU-500UL. Sony DVD+RW - authored with Ulead DVD MovieStation, burnt out to DVD folder and burnt with Nero on the Sony DRU-500UL. They both play great.

CVD? $250 N/A 7 of 10 Comments: Tried to play an HP Invent 700 MB/80 min. high spped/high performance blank on DVP-C660. Did not work. It would appear from the posted comments that STI Digital Media 700 MB CD-R works with this player. I will post after I purchase some this weekend. Hope this helps. STI are cheap as well. How about that.

N/A No rating Comments: Just wanted to let people know that I have finally found a cd-r which will work in this player. I have had success with Cicero brand 700mb 40x cd-r media. It takes a few extra seconds to recognize that there is something on the disc, but I have successfully burned a VCD (SVCD using the Header Trick) and a music cd using Roxio EZ-CD Creator 5 Platinum. I can't say if it works with other Cicero brand discs, but I'm REALLY HAPPY I found these. I have been unable to successfully use the STOP and PLAY trick with other cd-r media to date. Hope this helps those of you "stuck" with one of these players. Cicero brand media is available at Future Shop (at least in Canada).

N/A No rating Comments: Tested the Jensen CD-R as stated in a couple of posts. Could not get to work with Audio CD. The old Digital Media CD-R always worked, but could not find at Circuit City any more, just the Jensen CD-R, 32X, 80 Min/700 MB. The Jensen has a silver coating where the Digital Media had a blue coating. Can any others verify the Jensen with the silver coating. Thanks,

Haven't tested DVD-R/RW yet but will shortly. The KVCD templates work Excellent! Even though this DVD player works with most discs, it seems to be very picky. The discs must be very clean. I had one DVD that won't even track up (Kung Fu flick) but it works on cheaper models. I feel like Sony should give us a free upgrade for paying so much

I tried many different CDR's (CompUSA, HP, TDK, and Circuit City brand) and the only one that works is Jensen made by STI Certified Products. The Jensen CDRW's, made by STI, also works well. I tried both audio and VCD. I bought the Jensen CDR's and CDRW's at Circuit City.

DigitalMedia CD-R's burned at 8x will work all day long. I CANNOT get Sony, TDK, or HP CD-R's to work at all. However, Sony & DigitalMedia CD-RW's burned at 4x will work just fine in the Sony DVP-C660.

It does play VCDs cd but not sure about SVCDs yet.

N/A No rating Comments: An update to my review below. Forget SVCD. Sure, it works as I said in my post. But you can go one better. Take a look at http://www.kvcd.net. He has a template for TMPGEnc that allows you to create a 704x352 XVCD that typically allows a 120min movie (widescreen) to fit on a single 80-min cdr(w). 704x352 is better than you get with SVCD even, and the quality has been tweaked quite well. They play fine on this model of DVD player.

N/A No rating Comments: You can play SVCDs on this player if you use a trick that can be found here on this site. Using TMPGEnc, use the MPEG Tools menu and rewrite the svcd .mpg file as a 'VCD' .mpg file. The only thing that happens is you'll be rewriting the header, not actually 'downgrading' to a VCD. Burn it as a VCD with Nero or VCDEasy, and pop it in. It'll play at full SVCD resolution without a hitch. Quite impressive for a player that doesn't support SVCD.

N/A 5 of 10 Comments: Ive managed to get Memorex CD-R to work with the STOP then Play tweak.. Also Memorex CD-RW work well, so do Imation RW's. Digital Media CD-RW discs worked, but with lots of errors... Coulda been the burner?? Im curious... Is there REALLY NO WAY TO GET SVCD TO WORK ON THIS PLAYER???

N/A 6 of 10 Comments: Picky, picky, picky. I have tried numerous brands (Memorex, CompUSA, TDK, Imation, Sony)of CD-R media and the only one I've gotten to work are the generic Circuit City discs. Interestingly enough, ALL brands CD-RW media I have tested has worked on the player. I use Nero and my burns work on every other CD player except the Sony 660. Boo!
