CVD? $? over 1 year No rating Comments: I burnt Verbatim DVD-R DL disc using Decrypter. The disk is from Supermedia.com. 2 3pack boxes 28.99 then $10 mail in Rebate. Works fine on SONY player which is more than 6 years old.

CVD? $? over 1 year 10 of 10 Comments: I bought this player in Dec 1999. Up to month ago I used to play DVD+R , DVD-R, DVD-RW without any trouble. But recently, I started to have trouble with some FUJI DVD-R and DVD+R, and some DVD-RW discs. These discs used to play well before. Recently I tried Memorex DVD+R DL and they would not play. But Verbatim DVD+R DL played well. I was frustrated. Finally I bought Maxell DVD Lense Cleaner from Target for 12.99 and cleaned the Sony Player's lense. It was worth the money. Now all the discs play. First time I tried DVD+RW and it plyed. I tried the Memorex DVD+R DL again, and it plays well.

N/A No rating Comments: Contrary to an earler report, I find the Jensen CD-R "700MB 80Min up to 48x" from Circuit City do not work. Staples CD-RW's "74Min 650MB 1x-4x" do work.

All DVD+R I've tried work. All DVD+RW I've tried work. DVD-R works when size > 4 GB. DVD-R does not work when size < 4 GB. Haven't tried DVD-RW.

Never had an MP3 CDR or Audio CDR work.

N/A 8 of 10 Comments: received a spindle of CD-Rs from STI in the mail today (http://www.sticertified.com/cdr1.html) $26 for 100 spindle plus $6 shipping These are the same CD-Rs that Circuit City used to carry. Just burned a test audio cd and it played fine in my Sony.

CVD? $250 N/A 8 of 10 Comments: I have gotten some cdr's to work and all cd/rw's that I have tried. This will play svcd's if you do the header trick, search vcdhelp for "header trick", the playback of these is almost dvd quality at 704x480 2500kbs . I wish I would have known that before I encoded 15 movies in vcd mpeg1. This machine is great for movies that span multiple cd's because it switches to the next cd automatically.

N/A 8 of 10 JPG/JPEG Comments: Tried a variety of of CD-R brands including Sony without success - No Disk error. Tried all of the unused CD-RWs I had laying around Memorex Platinum CDRW Memorex CD-RW 4x CompUSA bulk 4x All worked fine except I had to slow the burner down to 2x. At 4x it recognized the disk, but the video was extremely bad. I tried to find the STI CD-Rs at Circuit City - no luck. The current Circuit City house brand does not work. I was able to locate the STI Digital Media shiny silver CD-Rs at the STI web site. I hope they work as I ordered a spindle. http://www.sticertified.com/cdr1.html I'll reports when they arrive. PCH

CVD? $200 N/A 10 of 10 Comments: Only tried Memorex CD-RW 4x which work fine. Moved up to Sony DRU-500A and created Sony DVD+RW and TDK DVD+R using DVD Workshop and 8000/384 Video/Audio. Playback is fine. Also created Fuji DVD-R at 1x from copy of DVD+RW disc. Also works fine.

No brand of CD-R (PNY, TDK, Verbatim) has worked yet. SVCD does not work either...

N/A 7 of 10 Comments: I had this DVD changer for over a year and a half now and have finally got it to play XVCD's (2500 bits, 192kbps audio). I have ATI AIW Radeon 7500 and had to jump through the standard hoops to finally get it to work. XVCD works really well! Just make sure if you have the same ATI board doing the capturing to use TMPEG to get the audio rate to 192kbps and you're GTG...

N/A 8 of 10 JPG/JPEG DVD-MP3 MP3 long filename MP3 ID3 TAG Comments: I use Pinnacle Studio 8 to create my VCDs, SVCDs, and DVDs. I have had 100% success creating all three formats using CD-RWs and DVD+RWs. I use Studio 8 for DV capturing (with a generic firewire card), and PowerVCR for analog capturing (with a Avermedia AverTV Stereo capture card). For media I tend to use whatever is cheapest, Imatation, Memorex, whatever. As long as it's a CD-RW or DVD+RW, it will work just dandy with Studio 8 and this Sony player. My next experiment will be SVCDs on the CD-R brand that others have said works with this Sony. If it does, I'll post the results here.

It plays any brand of cd-rw.

CVD? $500 N/A No rating Comments: I want to add a couple of comments to my previous entry: I was able to get XVCD to play on this DVD player after I used TMPGenc to encode at a higher bit rate (at this point I have only tried 2,300 kbits/s). Previously, I was using Pinnacle's Studio DV 7 to encode mpeg for XVCD, without any luck, until I read that Studio 7 did not encode alternate bitrate MPEG-1's correcly for XVCD. An XVCD MPEG-1 encoded by TMPGenc works perfectly (and beutifully, I might add) on this DVD player.

CD-R burn rates of 8x, 12x and even 20x! CD-RW burn rates of 10x. I could not get XVCD to play correctly; tried several different bitrates, but only on CD-RW.

Verbatim Datalife CD-R: Does not work Memorex CD-R: Does not work Ricoh CD-RW: Does not work Memorex CD-RW: Works sometimes, Fails sometimes, reporting the C13 (disc is dirty) (6 burns) Staples Brand CD-RW: Works every time so far (9 burns) Since staples CD-RW seems to work pretty well, I burned the three test CDs on this site with it: test VCD: Worked fine. test SVCD: Did not work. test XVCD (2500kbits): Worked fine. Will post more info as I get it, though it would seem I can be happy with just using VCD on the cheapie Staples CD-RW bulk media, so I'll probably just be sticking with that.
