N/A 7 of 10 MPEGISO Comments: I like my sony a lot. I'm using DXC to back up dvd's and am burning with an hp200i with 300i firmware. I've tried all the dvd+r,+rw's the local stores had,and the only ones that worked were the hp dvd+rw's. Anyone else have better luck let me know.

N/A 10 of 10 Comments: Used the TMPEnc/VcdTrick to get SVCD working with success on Laser CD-R 80 min media. Only issue is that the display on the DAVS-500 runs at close to double real-time. More work required to try menus etc - will post later(I'm a noob)

N/A 9 of 10 Comments: Tried to play an 84min vcd burned on a 99min cdr. Worked fine until video hit 77:11...then got stuck. Don't know what went wrong, but I'm suspecting it's the dvd player since the movie plays fine on my computer. Going to try a few more movies...will post updates if anything of interest occurs

N/A 8 of 10 Comments: Plays svcd when the vcd header trick is used much to my delight as stated in other reports here used memorex cdrs, surround sound not bad have some more testing to do as windvd refused to play the mpeg file that i burned to the svcd generating an error - no such probs with the standalone When my dvd writer arrives its looking good as well from the posts above

N/A No rating Comments: Hi ! I tried to play SVCD but it wont work directly. BUT there is a trick to get the 500 to play SVCD (mpeg2) files. I read it here on VCDhelp: "Not all DVD players will play SVCD's, and converting SVCD to VCD is a hassel, takes awhile, and cuts the quality of the video. Here is a way to put a VCD header on your SVCD to make you DVD player think it's playing a VCD. 1. Open TMPGEnc and goto FILE>MPEG TOOLS and click on the Simple Multiplex tab. 2. Click Browse for video input and select your movie. 3. Be sure that the type is MPEG-1 Video-CD 4. Select you output file. 5. Click Run. This will take 5-10min maybe more depending on video size and speed of your computer. 6. Now just burn to CD useing Nero or any other burning tool that will burn VCD's Note: After doing this if you try to play the mpeg on your computer chances are you will just get is a blocky green screen. Do not worry, this is normal but it will still play fine in your DVD player" And it works just fine!

N/A 8 of 10 Comments: Ok, very happy Got DVD+RW to play my home video first time!! Just followed the guides on this site: VirtualDub(Capture) -> Premiere(Edit) -> TMPEGEnc(Encode) -> MovieFactory(Auth) -> Nero5.5.9 (Burn). Put all files in the VIDEO_TS folder, wrote movie, stuck into the DAVS500 and it loaded with out a hitch! Just make sure you make everything DVD compliant - PAL/NTSC res/fps and Sound 48Khz/16/S. Need mega amounts of HD too (up to 30Gb/Hr) for Huffy capture and a high spec PC. Will do further test (modes) and DVD+R and post later. Using Memorex DVD+RW/R 100 Writter and Memorex brand DVD+RW.

AudioCD and VCD on CDR worked.

N/A 7 of 10 miniDVD/cDVD Comments: Sorry for my bad Englisch I make xvcds with a resolution 720x576 with a bitrate between 1750 and 2250 ,that depends on the length of the movie, and that looks perfect for me. When you have a widscreen television you can also use a resolution of 480x288 this setting gives also a good result and is faster in tmpgenc. When you playe the film in that case you must search the best screen setting of your tv set. adio settings in both cases 224.

The disc's have DVD compliant files authored with Power Director (video & audio TS in the root) and burned with a Poineer AO4 & Nero. The first set of disc's my buddy burned for me were no-name media and had menu's, chapters & included Power DVD set to autorun. The second set of disc's he gave me were burned on PrimeDisc DVD-R and had no menu's, chapters or player software. I'm very curious to know how the people who *have* gotten DVD-R to play on this system have done it. Because I can't seem to get it to happen. Any ideas?
