I think I forgot some important details. Please any help is of great importance. I need explanation about header tricks and how to burn twice (not possible with nero without erasing the CDRW after the first burn session). Thanks

Stick to rewritable (no more expensive these days anyway) and you shouldn't have too many problems. Main reason for posting comment: has anyone tried any Dual Layer burnt DVDs in this player yet?

CVD? $? over 1 year 5 of 10 JPG/JPEG Comments: Has been OK as a combo-DVD/surround sound. Just got into putting JPEG's from camera & found it very complex to re-produce the quality from my camera to a VCD. After much time I have managed to get excellent image quality but with some jumpiness. Basically took a bunch of JPEG's straight off my Fuji Finepix, used a slide show program to convert them to an uncompressed AVI, converted this AVI to m2v (excellent quality), then fooled it to see it as mpeg-1 and finally burnt to a vcd. The result was perfect quality pictures but with jumpiness between transitions. So just about cracked it but need to sort the jumps. Let me know if you have any ideas or want to know hoe I did it. I will be going to a major electronics store here called Future Shop (Canadians will know what I'm talking about) to purchase the burner along with some blank DVD's. My question is: what are some of the more popular DVD brands of R's and RW's available on the market that would still work with my DAV S300? I ask because there only seems to be a limited selection of brands around where I live. On a side note, do I really need to buy a burner that can burn DVD-RAM as well? The guy at the store seemed to talk about it like it was the wave of the future.

CVD? $300 N/A 8 of 10 Comments: Had the system for a few years now, had real problems with cdrs working in VCD mode. Princo blue are the only disks I got to work. CDRW works everybrand everytime. Just got a LITEONIT DVD+-R drive and have so far had no failures using BulkPac Orange Generation 4 4*DVD-R disks.

N/A 7 of 10 DivX MPEGISO Comments: Hi, This is a great player, but I am having some trouble with it. Everytime I when I'm trying to burn a DVD+r (TDK) or DVD+rw (philips) the player says: No Disc. I have a Philips DVD+Rewriter and i'm using DVD complicant mpeg2 files with mp2 and sometimes ac3 sound. I burn the discs usnig Nero. Can someone tell me what the problem is ?

Seems to work with all DVD formats, but I have noticed that if a printed lable is added to a DVD backup the player starts to skip and perform very badly.. This is probably due to a low tollerance of the player to unbalanced disks.. Computer DVD Roms are very tollerant of this kind of error.

MP3 WMA CVD? $500 N/A 9 of 10 Comments: have it for allmost a year now and it's fantastic the sound and picture quality is gr8 both with DVDs and music CDs , the only bad fiture i can think of is the fact that it doesn't work with most cd-r's and cd-rw's but still there r some brands that work perfectly on it so it's not that big of a problem .

CVD? $200 N/A 6 of 10 Comments: Purchased Maxell 650 MB 74 minutes CD-RWs from Circuit city, VCD recorded first time at 10X using Nero 6 Ultra. I used Sony's Notebook with CD-RW/DVD-RAM drive. Tried SVCD with no luck, erased and recorded VCD and it worked.WOO HOO Just ordered Sony DRX510UL, which should be fun..will keep you all updated. WHAT A FORUM!! GOOD LUCK TO YOU ALL

N/A 8 of 10 MP3 long filename MP3 ID3 TAG DivX MPEGISO Comments: I recently tried to create SVCDs with the header trick using TMPGEnc. It works well when "MPEG-1 Video-CD" is selected. It doesn't work with "MPEG-1 Video-CD (non-standard)" - you'll get drop-outs and unsynched sound. Step-by-step: 1. Select "File > MPEG Tools..." 2. In "Simple Multiplex" - add your MPEG-2 file (it will automatically fill in the same file name in all three fields) - Change "Output" to a different file name 3. Select "MPEG-1 Video CD" 4. Click on "Run" 5. Wait 6. There will be some error message about buffer underrun - accept but ignore ;-) 7. When using Nero, create a new VCD project, add your file. A dialog window will pop up - tell Nero to use the non-standard file format. 8. Burn 9 Enjoy! :-) Bernd

Unfortunately, Princo CD-Rs seem not to be available anymore in Europe (I found one shop in Italy (www.finim.com) but they want 40 EUR shipping for 200 to Germany). CD-RW: EMTEC 700 1,2,4x works fine - not available anymore Imation 700, TDK 80 work well, but only after burning the CD *twice* (with Nero 5 or 6). Tip: Burning a CD-RW twice seems to help a lot. The TDK wouldn't play after one pass, after two passes it works very well. Bernd P.S.: The price is of 2000.

I have burned my Dvds with Dvd2One or InstantCopy following the guides in the section. It's a great and wonderful device!!!!

N/A 8 of 10 JPG/JPEG Comments: I haven't managed to make any VCD's with CD-R - all turned into coasters. Succeeded with some CD-RW's I had and encouraged by the almost unanimous claims on here that all CD-RW's work, I purchased a load of cheap Datawrite 12x CD-RW. The first two worked but no more. I then checked the first two and they wouldn't play!! ("No Disk" display). In fact, if you keep trying they will work 10% of the time, but often stop in the middle. Datawrite identifies itself as Prodisc Technology Inc, cyanine long strategy. I have found that only Phthalocyanine short strategy CD-RW's work (I'm now using PC World's Pro-Line 4X CD-RW - plain silver tops, no writing on them)and they work 100% of the time for VCD's and Audio disks. SVCD's with the header trick play, but audio keeps dropping out of sync. I've found that you can encode VCD's at higher bitrates than the standard 1150 bps and I am using 2-pass VBR with 100% success using the bit-rate calculator on this site to work out how to fill the disks to maximise playback quality. Remember that you can burn a 790Mb .mpg file on a 700Mb disk. Menus and chapters created using VCDEasy work well.

N/A 7 of 10 Comments: Me ha funcionado sin ningun problema con CDR Princo y That`s Right, y con todos los CDRW que he utilizado. He creado VCD, y SVCD utilizando el truco de cambiarle la cabecera. Tambien me funciona los CD Audio que he quemado con Princo y That´s Right. El software utilizado fue Pinnacle Studio8, TMPGENc y NERO. ------------------------------------------------- It has worked me without any problem with CDR Princo and That`s Right, and with all the CDRW that I have used. I have created VCD, and SVCD using the trick of changing him the head. It also works me the Audio CD that I have burned with Princo and That´s Right. The used software was Pinnacle Studio8, TMPGENc and NERO.

N/A No rating Comments: I am staying with a friend who has this machine. He was very frustrated that it would not play Audio-CDs on CD-R format. So I copied some over to Memorex CD-RW 4X and they play perfectly. I also used Toast to move some mp3 files of old Amos & Andy radio shows over to an Audio-CD on CD-RW and it plays as well. It also plays my generic white-topped DVD-Rs that I purchased from www.americal.com. I did not try DVD-RWs.
