Sony is not a good vendor for mechanical electronics, IMHO.

CVD? $? over 1 year No rating Comments: Was able to play DVD video recorded using Sonic myDVD 6.0 to Verbatim 4x DVD+RW, Verbatim 4x DVD-RW media, and TDK 4x and 8x DVD-R. My DVD burner, a TDK 1616DLN, bit-sets automatically the DVD+RW media to DVD-ROM.

WIth a +RW, the player will play it but intermittent lockup for several seconds and then play again. Sometimes, the player will stop playing. So far, I have only try the Verbatim DataLifePlus DVD+RW.

CVD? $550 N/A 9 of 10 DVD-MP3 Comments: I recently used sony DVD burner with neoDVD authoring software to create a DVD+R and a DVD+RW with video from my camcorder. DAV-C700 played both DVD+R and +RW fine. Before buying this DVD burner, I searched extensively on the net to figure out if DAV-C700 works with DVD+R/RW, but did not find any solid info. I even checked with sony service people, without any luck. Finally, it works !!!!!!

MP3 WMA CVD? $600 N/A 8 of 10 Comments: On the second try my DVD-R worked. Used CompUSA DVD-R with Nero. On my first try I think I made I little mistake with Nero settings or it could be media - Optidisk . On second try I used guide from http://mpucoder.kewlhair.com/derrow/nero.html For ripping I used this guide http://www.dvd2dvdr.com/ but instead Prassi I used Nero. Next I will try DVD-RW I wish it played MP3's. Thank God I own APEX-1500 as well. (No problems with this player, it plays almost everything no to mention price) Back to Sony great sound, superb picture and very nice look.

CVD? $699 N/A 8 of 10 Comments: all around this "surround sound theater system" is excellent. well worth the the 699 clams if you wanna pump your home up for an awesome movie. now if you want to play a lot of burned stuff thats another story. i know VCDs work but SVCDs do not. BUT you can go here http://www.tmpgenc.net/e_main.html to get a program that switches the header on SVCD files and tricks your dvd player into thinking its a VCD file so it plays. so i can play SVCDs but not w/o a little help. mp3s dont play in it. your regualr music cds will sounds great though. overall this is a wonderful system. oh and one of the coolest things is the remote. its transparent and the entire face glows in the dark. too cool. way to go sony. trick your dvd player into thinking the svcd is an vcd http://www.geocities.com/newestmoviesencode/dvdvcd
