Plays pretty much everything, only missing is the ability to play wma files. Divx/xvid support has been surprisingly good, there's only been a couple which stuttered or not played, all others played great, half the things I download are in that format so it saves a hell of a lot of converting!

Need some help with this player - I've lost the manual - can anyone supply me with a copy? tried skyworth's site but no response to email, had a look at the "denver" site but it seems the remote is set up differently.

any help much appreciated - any costs will be paid.

Owned for just over 4 months and upto now 'SPOT ON!'. Bought from WHSmiths for £30.
Plays DVD-/+R / RW / CDR/W etc... and upto now played 99% of all xvid/divx/avi video i've thrown at it!
Build quality isn't brilliant but for £30 who cares. Just bin it when it's broke/outdated. Remote control is also flimsy and requires hard pressing of the buttons. Only problem i have found upto now is that occasionally it tends to freeze up, requiring it to be switched off at the mains (Power switch at the rear makes this easy!).

This is the second divx player i have owned, the first being a 'Yamada'. I paid £60 for the yamada and the sykyworth 3650 (at £30) puts it to shame!

So good that I would have bought another one, but virtually impossible to find in WHSmiths stores anymore. If you get the chance GRAB IT!

Comments:
Bought this player yesterday in WHSmith, and I am well impressed. Specifically wanted it for it's divx/xvid playback function, which it does well.

One minor niggle was upon playback of TV Eps, I noticed a slight jerkiness in playback. To get around this I downloaded this little program:

http://www.moitah.net/download/latest/MPEG4Modifier.zip

It allows you to unpack the bitrate of the divx, which allows the chipset on the player to better perform, therfore eliminating the jerkiness, and blocking.

All you do is this:

When you open the file, under packed bitstream, check the unpack box.

Then in the user data box, edit the line that is something like DivX999b000p , and change the p to an n.

Then save the file, and delete the original. When you playback on the Skyworth you will now notice smooth perfect playback!

Hope this helps.

echo the above except for the guy who said progressive/interlaced scan is not available - on page 8 of the manual it says it is (though i haven't tried it)

the fast forward is a little wierd (at least when playing xvid) somethimes most of the time 8x is faster than 16x or 32x. sometimes its the same (slow) speed as them both and 4x is the fastest. In short; definately not an incremental increase in search speed!

whilst on the subject of searching, going to a desired position on an mpeg disk (i have only tried xvid) is a problem; you only have the option to scan forward - using the odd function described above! this is a pain when i had a disk stall 45mins into it, i burnt a new one and had to sit & wait while it scanned forward at its leisure to the 45min mark!

All that said; I am please as punch to be able to play divx & xvid for 30 squid!

Bought this for £24.69 in Wh Smiths (using 500 points voucher and points for actual sale).

Build quality is very good and weighty too. Disc tray is thin and transparent and probably won't take much abuse.

Picture quality is excellent as is media and format compatibility.

Remote control while attractive needs firm presses on the buttons and also aimed at the remote sensor.

Multiregion out of the box and includes av leads and scart lead.

Has a full 5.1 decoder built in but this only supports Dolby Digital. There is no support for DTS or Dolby Prologic II using the 5.1 outputs. The player also has optical and coaxial outputs.

This player does not feature progressive scan. It doesn't have VGA or component output sockets.

It does have RGB scart and s-video outputs.

Very, very pleased with this player.

One last point is the player is equipped with karaoke mic socket and level control.

Ok so I've only had this bargin basement DivX player for 2 days but to be fair it's worked a treat with every DivX and Avi I've thrown it's way so far (about 12 in total).

So, so far so good not a problem to report. For £29.99 these are selling like hot cakes at WH Smith & Son. (thought I'd add the Son for old time sake).

My advice go get one for the price at £30 it's a disposable.

As a DVD player this seems fine. But Divx/Xvid support seems patchy. As this is the primary reason that I purchased this player I have to mark it down. I didn't expect %100 compatibility but from my initial tests I am lucky to get %65.... All the others suffering from a choppy frame rate.... Question is can the player been improved using firmware from...

Only the most daring would try.

I'll post more as I discover it.

Plays all my Xvid or Divx downloads fine and also plays raw Mpeg from the disc browser menu, no subtitle support but this is not a problem for me as it is something I do not want , has DD 5.1 decoder & outputs but no onboard DTS decoder.
Bargain multi region Divx player @ £30 , probably no support as in firmware upgrades but at £30 who cares , throw it away when it is outdated and a newer unsupported codec comes out.
