worked fairly ok for first few months (had the occasional freezing problems) but over the last month or two it has had more disc problems and now comes up with bad disc on nearly every disc you put into it. The only divx type that I've tried that doesnt play is hd divx.also plays dts & dolby digital though the 5.1 analog outputs.

Comments:
Confirmed, this player has a Zoran Vaddis 886 chipset. The ZV 888 is in the 6515 version which supports HD-upscaling up to FullHD.

I've have tried following discs (all burned on highest available burnspeed with LiteON 1673s DVD-RW DL drive, in combination with Nero 6:

°Imation DVD+R 8x and 4x
°Imation DVD-RW 2x and 4x
°Platinum DVD-R 8X
°Samsung PleoMAX DVD+R 8x
°Memorex DVD-RW 2X
°Verbatim DVD-R DL 4x
°Verbatim DVD-R 8x

I have tried to feed the drive a Western Digital 250gb ATA100 (8mb cache i think) harddisk in an ICYBOX external Silver enclosure; no problems. Only thing you should take into consideration is that you HAVE to format your disc with FAT32 as filesystem. Not natively possible in WinXP, but I've used a tool called "Fat32format". Just type that keyword in Google and you'll stumble upon it ;-)

I have also tried a Western Digital 120gb HDD in the same ICYBOX with no troubles at all.

It has some problems with cheap usb-sticks, but I've tried sizes 1GB and 2GB sticks; brands: Medion, Intuix (EMTEC), Sandisk.

When using the usb-port, prior to utilization, the medium (stick or external hdd) must be initialized; you'll get the "loading" notification for almost a minute. I've determined that the larger the mediumcapacity is, the longer it takes to initialize, but eventually it gets going without any problems. You can play Divx 3.x, 4, 5, 6, and Xvid's without any problems from your external harddisc or sticks. Subtitles only in SRT supported, selectable out of listing. Loading of divx/xvid files from dvd-discs is surely a lot faster.

The price for this player varies from 45 to 55 EUROS, I've bought mine for 49. ABSOLUTELY no regrets because for the price, it's worth it.

I use this player in conjunction with a Philips LX600 AV-receiver. AC-3 and DTS Passthrough works like a charm, especially with the optical output you get very clear sound!

Aspect Ratio detection is also descent.

The only things I haven't tried is the internal AC3 decoder and the built-in memorycard reader it has.

Overall rating 7 because I would've liked to see a faster operation of the usb-medium initialization. I recommend the Silvercrest 6515 because of the HD-upscaling capability.

Hello friends,

I would like to add my comments on this player which i am using since a month or so.

DivX, XVideo, AVI, JPGs works very fine (from USB-Stick (FAT32)/CD/DVD+R) and the video+sound quality is also not bad :) Overall dynamics of the player and the remote-control looks to be very nice & streamlined.

Although this DVD/DivX Player is really good for its price, but it has one problem!! I have tried some Verbatim DVD+R Discs (16x) which this player refuses to play :( It says BAD DISC.

The same DVD (burned with Nero 7.6...) gets perfectly played with my old Samsung S-224 player. I dont know if it has got some problems *only* with Verbatim DVD+R 16x Media (incompatible?????) as i havent tried other media(s).

Otherwise, a very nice & overall satisfactory deal for 45 Euros :) and that too Made in Germany!!!!

Will try the region-code-free hack already posted here. Hope that works.

I would recommend this player SilverCrest KH6510 or SilverCrest KH6515 (with additional HDMI Output), if someone is planning to get a nice & a low price, yet powerful DivX/DVD Player.

Cheers! J.N.G. from Germany.

Comments:
Supports also mpeg files from topfield harddisk recorder. (beautiful picture quality)
I tried a dvd with 65 music cd-folders. Works fine, but stops after finishing a folder (plays only the selected folder)

usb/card reader: can connect 120gb HD but the it doesn't see always every mp3 folder or content.
Playing divx from a usb flash drive of 1GB or from external drive works very good.
Mp3/ mpg written on a dvd supports more complicated dir-structures than the usb/card reader interface.

pro: very good picture, good sound, usb-support, card reader
con: no dvd iso file play from usb/cardreader/external hardisk, no wmv, and no avi play from my photo camera.

To set it codefree follow these steps:

1. Open tray
2. Press 9 9 9 9
3. Enter Region (9 = multi-region)
4. Close Tray
5. Turn player off and on

Player has USB-interface. The manual says that it's only possible to use a USB stick with a maximum capacity of 512 MB. Thats wrong. I formated an external USB harddisk with 200 GB with FAT32. (Windows doesn't allow that but you can do this using third party tools.)

The player is able to read from this harddisk without any problemlos.

==> Great player. I will never have to burn movies on DVD.

The only negative thing: Player doesn't play VOBs directly from the harddisk. Only AVIs, MPEG...
