CVD $100 N/A 6 of 10 MP3 ID3 TAG DivX MPEGISO Comments: It play VCDs as VCDs but plays CVD/(S)(X)VCD as ISO. Sometimes retail DVD playback is so so. I've had it for two years but I wouldn't recommend it.

CVD? $100 N/A 8 of 10 Comments: Use DVD XCopyXpress and DVD Decrypter to burn DVD +R and it worked great. Used it for VCDs using Stomp and worked. Also play home movies and photo cd's but can't remember what all software I used in the conversion and burning process! So far, I'm happy with it. It did start chopping up during the Sopronos, Season 1 but we think that was because we watched DVDs for 8 hours straight - can't be good for any DVD player.

N/A 7 of 10 MPEGISO Comments: VCD's Plays them fine. No problems at all. SVCD's It can play SVCD's, but the controls are ineffective. The player displays the contents of SVCD like an IS0 disk. You can navigate the folders to the directory storing the MPEG, and you can get the MPEG to play, but you can't fast forward, pause, or fast rewind. If you try these functions, the player will stop playing the file and you will have to start ALL THE WAY AT THE BEGINNING. ISO9660 CD-R(80 minute/700 meg) The player will play MPEG files stored on such CD-R's. Again, once you begin play of the MPEG, you can't pause or FF, or RW. If you try these functions, the player will stop playing the file and you will have to start ALL THE WAY AT THE BEGINNING. DVD-R(2x Memorex and 2x Maxell) The player doesn't like DVD's authored less than 6000 bits/sec. It will play them(6k), but you can't fast forward greater than 2x. Retail DVD I have had no problems playing double sided DVD's.

CVD? $150 N/A 2 of 10 JPG/JPEG MP3 long filename MP3 ID3 TAG Comments: This player is ridiculous...it plays VCDs, SVCDs, MP3CDs and DVDs, but most of the *retail* discs that I've tried do not work, or they don't play completely. Mercury Rising started skipping/stuttering near the end, then it completely froze at a screen and was unable to continue playing. Everyone, do yourself a favor and do *not* buy this player. I've upgraded to the even cheaper Daewoo 3000N, and it's heaps better.

CVD? $100 N/A 7 of 10 JPG/JPEG Comments: I have had no problems with this unit. I don't have much to compare it too since its my first dvd player. I did have major problems watching the movie "me myself and irene." It would freeze up often and the sound would stop and skip throughout the movie.

Unable to get it to display if I connect the output cable thru the VCR, I had to connect it direct to my TV (luckily I have a big screen with extra inputs). I had the same problem with an APEX player, which I returned. Other than that, I've had zero problems.

CVD? $99 N/A 9 of 10 Comments: Went looking for a player for VCDs specifically. I had VCDs on CD-R that wouldn't play on Sony or Apex DVD players. This machine played VCDs burned on Maxell and Memorex 700MB discs with Nero and CD Creator flawlessly, even played a copy of a copy. Right out of the box, forget all that firmware upgrading mess! Played DVDs fine, even some that others said had issues, although the salesman said the unit may not play dual layer DVDs. I didn't have one to test, but it's played everything I've thrown at it so far. Here's hoping that reliability is good, too! Has S-Video, YUV, composite, and optical outputs (the specs say coax, not optical) and some cool features, including the zoom, and digest for single track VCDs (allows you to advance similar to chapters on a DVD). Played MP3s no problem, although the user interface is a bit confusing at first. Handles subfolders OK, but you can't randomize across subfolders. Has a Karaoke function with two mic inputs as well, although it's not my bag - even comes with three sample karaoke discs. Found this one at Best Buy as well as two Mintek models that both played my sample in the store. One of the Minteks was almost identical to the Shinsonic, the other had fewer features, but sold for only $79. Very impressed with this machine, especially for only $99.

CVD? $99 N/A 10 of 10 Comments: This DVD player has plenty of features and a very low price tag. It says it can play DVD's, VCD's, CD's,CD-R's, CD-RW's, and MP3's. So far, I have only tested DVD's, CD's, MP3's, and CD-R VCD's, all of which played perfectly. It also came with some interesting karaoke cd's, if there is anyone in the world who would enjoy a karaoke feature... It has very smooth playback, in fact I don't think it has ever skipped. I would highly recommend this DVD player to anyone who doesn't want to spend twice as much on another DVD player just to find that it won't play anything but DVD's!
