Has decent audio/video performance, including analog audio out, but has a limited feature set. Does NOT support VCD at all. Claims to support DVD-R/RW and DVD-MP3, but I haven't personally tested those. Zoom is not very useful since it has 2x and 4x only. No optical audio out. Menus are also very basic. Internal chipsets include the STi5519 MPEG decoder, and Sage/Faroudja FLI2200 deinterlacer (a.k.a. DCDi). Build quality seems reasonable for a low-cost machine, certainly better than cheapies such as Apex.
The DV-S25U (black) is identical to the DV-S2U (silver) except for the color. The DV-S1U also looks pretty much the same, but without the DCDi deinterlacing.
Due to the minimal feature set, I would only recommend if you can find it cheap. I got mine for $80 on sale at Frys Electronics. |
