CVD? $? over 1 year 7 of 10 Comments: I bought this DVD recorder/VCR combo in December 2004 at Best Buy and have recorded literally hundreds of DVD-R's over the past 2 and a half years. Overall, I'm quite satisfied with it, but it does have two important shortcomings: 1) AFAIK there are no region-free hacks available for this unit, so you will have to buy a separate (and different model/brand) unit that does have region-free capability in order to watch non-Region 0/1 DVD's. 2) This model uses 4X DVD-R/RW's, which, as other commenters have noted, is getting to be a real problem since most stores don't stock 4X's any more. Fortunately, a couple of vendors at computer swap meets/shows in my area still sell Princo 4X's, so I make sure to buy a new 50-disc spindle every time I go. I currently have something like 350 blanks hoarded which should keep me going for a good while yet. :) Be aware that this unit does have Macrovision enabled, so in order to back up your VHS tapes and such, you will need (1) to use a separate VCR and (2) to get something like one of the devices Sima sells, which remove defects in the video picture (including Macrovision, which often causes problems with picture quality).

CVD? $350 over 1 year 5 of 10 Comments: Had this unit awhile. Now it IS hard to find media to record. I was using Ritek 1-4x, but can't get it anymore. I foolishly bought 3 different types of DVD-R 8x, and it will not recognize the disc. Unit is kinda slow to respond. I'm ready to upgrade if I can't find cheap DVD-R's anymore.

CVD? $? over 1 year No rating Comments: My Grandparents have this and it's been causing lots of frustration. I don't think they sell compatible media in retail stores anymore. Samsung DigitAll 1x worked perfectly for about a year, then Meritline stopped selling them. I'm currently on a mad hunt for more media.
