worked fine for about two years then all of a sudden had trouble playing a real dvd and ever since than skips playback on DVD+R DVD-R VCD SVCD and Retail dvds as if they were scratched. I have tried numorous lens cleaners and compressed air spray. wished it worked like it used to. Other than that it has always treated me right.

Ok look...if u want to transfer you VHS movies over to DVD this is not the DVD player u want to play them. It will not work with DVD-,+,R, and RW. It freezes up once u try and play it and u can't turn it off or eject the disk. It completely freezes! Then it begins to get hot! So make sure u do not put any home made DVD disks into it. The only way to eject the DVD after it freezes is to unplug it.

I do not believe it has a cheap feel at all. I guess if you owned one of those thousand dollar gold plated, diamond encrested players then maybe. Actually is looks very modern and pretty cool. When the display on the player is off it is basically a mirror instead of the usual see through plastic. The letters/numbers are displayed in a blue color. (the player itself is silver)

For the few or one person who has complained about not being able to get out of zoom. Jesus christ! It's in the manual I'm sure.... and if it isn't.... Then try pushing some buttons.... I can forgive though because my dad doesn't know how to turn the internet on so..... If you have or haven't found out yet I will tell you. To get out of zoom push the "C" (cancel) button. To negatively zoom push the "return" button.

To the people who complain about this dvd player and any other dvd player having an eject button. How sad. There is no advantage or good thing about having an eject button on a dvd player as previously stated. They realized that and that is why they did not include one. Lets see. You push eject after finding the button on the remote... You then get up.. take out the dvd..... and put it in its case. What would having one do good for you? Lets see.... Without the button you..... Get up.... then without needing to find it....push the button on the player itself and take out the dvd and put it in its case. There is no difference at all. Either way, lazy people are not better off. It takes the same amount of time and "skill" and there is basically no reason why you would need that button on the remote.

Now.. Why are people saying that the zoom and playability and what not are great features without saying anything about the LAST MEMO feature?! Have all of your players had it in the past so it isn't a big thing..... or..... Do you even know it is there????? Just making sure.... :-)

This DVD player is just amazing. I have played tons and tons and tons of DVDs on it and only once did it glitch as where it doesn't on our other players. (5 seconds of showing the three stooges in Its a Mad Mad Mad Mad World) It has component out, which I have my 20 inch flat screen tv hooked up through and it gives a great picture. The design of the player, ease of use and features are just great. My favorite feature and probably most peoples favorite is the Last Memo button. You push it and next time you watch the dvd it asks you if it should go to that exact second of the movie and you can remove the dvd, turn off the player, watch another movie, put on last memo for another movie.... and still be able to do this. It will hold exact places for 5 DVDs. We have 3 other DVD players in our house and none of them do that and I don't think many do, but it is like a feature that I can not live without. It makes watching DVDs as easy as watching VHSs in areas of just putting it in and being able to point where left off. I actually got it for $140 at Walmart since it is a SANYO product and most s products are sold there. SANYO has done one thing to me and one thing only and that is never let me down. I also have an amazing VCR player by them right now and try out that brand. Even though you are laughing that SANYO stuff is sold at Walmart.... They really do make high quality stuff in my opinion and experiences.

Use Sonic MyDVD to make homevideo DVD using Pioneer DVD-RW DVR-104 (w/ firmware updated from their website) which playable on any PC and Mac but NO PLAY displayed (duh!) on the player when insert the disc (Pioneer DVD-RW). Have not try w/ DVD-R though.
The best on playing VCD! Use Roxio Easy CD creator 5, Sonic MyDVD and VCDEasy to make VCD (still using Xing MPEG encoder to make MPEG1), all play flawlessly. Use any brand CD-R & CD-RW, all play!
Would have given 10, but no DVD-RW playable, cheap feel OSD and no eject button made me decide at 8.

This dvd player is about the best for the money. I have
successfully played cd-r vcd and svcd's. I also was able to play dvd-r movies. I dubbed a movie using dvdxcopy and then was able to watch it perfectly on this player.

This player is not without its problems however. The player itself looks good. But the on-screen controls have a very cheap feel to them. I do not know how to get out of the zoom once you enter it. If a cd is scratched even slightly it can affect the playability of the disk. Over all it is a great cheap dvd player if you want to make your own movies on various recording forms.

So far has played just about everything I have thrown at it. It is very picky when it comes to DVD+R. I haven't tried DVD+RW yet, but I will. VCD and SVCD plays very well. I've used just about everything out there to edit and burn, and so far will work everytime with VCD and SVCD. Plays just about any MP3 without any problem.

Some of the Programs that work best:
Nero and Nero Xpress
Ulead Video Suite
Pinnacle Studio 8
Easy CD Creator 4 and 5
Adobe Premiere
Win TV
DVD Cloner
DVD Echo
AV Office Suite

Has worked flawlessly with the exception of one DVD title, Atlantis. I called Disney about it and it turned out to be a common problem with that DVD and they gave me a fix. I haven't tried DVD+-R/RW with it and would like to know if anyone has and which will work before I buy one (+/- or niether). The only reason I didn't give it a "10" is because it isn't a Denon DVD9000, which I know will play damn near anything there is, but who has $4000 to spend on a DVD player??

Had this player for about a year based on this site's reviews. I've been happy with the picture quality playing dvds. It plays all cd-r's and cd-rw's that I've used (imation, memorex, compusa and imix brands). Homemade vcd's and svcd's ( variable bit rate, I've used btw 2.0 and 2.5 Mb bit rates without any problems) burned with nero work fine. The ffwd 1-3 x works with both so I don't need to bother with menus

Well, I just tried playing DVD-R's on my player after a few posts stated this model could play them and now I'm out $100!! Don't be fooled: this model will NOT load DVD-R or DVD-RW discs, but strangely will play any PAL DVD within Regions 0-1. Go figure.

Great for playing dvd's and vcd's. MP3 play back is cool, but the interface could be more intuitive. Wish there were region hacks and macrovision hacks, but I can live with out those.

Not many, if any, people have mentioned this, so I don't know if it's been tested, but this player plays all PAL discs as long they are in Regions All, 0 or 1! Regions 2-8 are still not accesible, but this is still a unique feature that I've not seen on many players!!

I've had this Sanyo for just over a year. Bought it after returning a higher priced Phillips that wouldn't play MP3 or CD-R / CD-RW. Very happy with CD-Audio. Burned VCD with Nero, from home movies & firewire TV captures (captured with Adobe Premier & edited with MGI VideoWave 4). The only reason I can't give this player a 10 is that picture brightness fades in-and-out during video playback. Even with that I still give it a "Highly Recommended" rating -- just not perfect.

This Sanyo DWM-370 by far is excellent! It beats brand name like Sony.
Reason: Me and my brother used to make a homemade VCD that using PC w/ ATI All In Wonder. First we record movie from Toonami and using Xing Encoder we decode it than burn in MPEG VCD format using Adaptec Easy CD Creator.
My brother had a Sony DVD player (don't remember the type) which is twice expensive than mine, but when he try to play this homemade VCD, it didn't work on him BUT it works well on my cheaper Sanyo :)
We try to record on every brand of CDR and RW, from the silver plate to the blue plate, and it is always works! The downturn is, during VCD playback the PBC isn't working so Chapter Selection is not possible.
Overall it is a good multi disk player, elegant silver looking and a very bargain price.

Just one question....
Why do you need an eject button in the remote control? If you eject it you have to stand up and put the DVD back into the box. So, why need it if you have to stand up anyway?

This DVD kicks ass. Bought it for $129 from Wal-Mart; it plays just about everything I've thrown at it. I have a Pioneer A-03 which I burn dvd movies on DVD-r and DVD-rw, both have worked great. Two years ago I bought the $300 Sony DVD player (which wouldn't play shit!) hopeing it would do anthing I wanted. (Damn Sony)

Well, that's my two cent.

Plays PAL or NTSC without hack.

Plays VCD and SVCD converted from avi/DIVX to mpg using TMPGenc. Also plays SVCD converted from mpeg-1 with TMPGenc, then burned as VCD or SVCD with Nero. Media used = Memorex CD-R 80min, and Maxell CD-R 80min.

Excellent DVD player for the price. I also have a Sanyo TV. Both are highly rated by Consumer Reports. TV and DVD player both manufactured by Sanyo of Arkansas, USA. Both are sold at WalMart.
