| Not a true DVD-R player. According to the manual it plays DVD so if you do not make your DVD-R look like a true DVD disc then it won't play or it jitters. My stand alone DVD burner makes great DVD's that play on all players tried except this player depends on if I fill the whole disc to make it look like a true dvd disc. If I half fill the DVD-R (won't play). |

I bought mine in 2002, 2-3 times a year it will lockup and ill have to disconnect the power cord then reconnect it before it will eject the disc.
it won't play svcd if it is burned with nero (but alcohol 120% works fine). Maxell, HP, & Yamaha RW disc are readable. "next" will jump to end of svcd's, so if req I use the keypad to choose the chapter to jump to. Multivision is useless, looks like a slide show and there is no audio. Zoom does not have a revert unless you eject the disc and play again. subtitles on svcd are good with cbr, vbr blurs them. SHUFFLE does not work when playing MP3's (if I knew prior I would not have bought this model). Overall it plays well, never skipped, I would like it more if more of the options actually functioned as you'd expect. |

Plays everything I throw at it, including "brandless" CDs. I usually buy brandless CDs at MicroBytes stores in Quebec, or I use HP Invent 48x 80min/700MB CDs.
DVD playback is perfect, as expected. Everything functions properly.
VCD and SVCD playback and quality are superb. It plays KVCDs, too. I've never had an unplayable movie, and I have 200+ S/VCD discs. |

mp3's play well on vbr or cbr 320kb/s
dvd-r works without any issues.
I use dvd2svcd ver 1.1.3 and CCE 2.5 to make svcd's. Alcohol 120% burns svcd's flawlessly with my crw-f1 Yamaha cd-rw. I have been tempted to use the region free cd-r image but I don't have much use for it as all my dvd's are region 1. |

Pretty much like this machine...play near anything i throw in it.
However i have found 2 interesting things about this Player that can get irritating;
1. Most SVCD's must be burned using Track-at-Once,
or they will not play at all. If Nero refuses to
burn them TAO, then i found it will play using DAO.
2. Even when burned w/TAO, due to encoding with tracks i guess, the Movie will stall at the track change. Forcing me to FF2/play through the whole movie, which of course suks.
Currently looking to replace this machine. |

Sanyo 7201 is a great little player!
I have tried playing mp3, VCD, and SVCD with instant success!
I am having a great deal of trouble trying to get
DVD-R and DVD-RW working.
Anyone out there who has had success?
I would like to know what burner/software/media combination you used!
The other down side is that occasionally on rented DVD's, the menu arrows do not work, and you have to resort to entering numbers.
Don't ask me how i know, but the macrovision hack is flamin' dangerous - can result in player not working.
cheers, |

This was my 1st DVD player. Works well, pic quality is excellent. My only beef with this player is some new releases however encoded tend to freeze up every 30-60 seconds. I am able to fix some of the issues by burning the svcd's using Nero 5.5.9.9 and setting it to "Track-At-Once." This works on 95% of all "trouble" SVCD's i tried. If the SVCD won't burn in TAO with nero, then its safe to burn using DAO setting.
I have recently replaced this player with a Norcent DP-300, which has eliminated all my SVCD play back problems. Will use the Sanyo as a secondary machine. |

I was testing all the players I could get hold of, including this one with some sample disks I burnt on a Sony DRU 500 A and disk planet and Inifiniti - R disks would not play on this player.
The inifiniti +R worked fine. and both -R disks worked on 3 other brands of player. |

| Bought this player a week ago what can I say, but fantastic "It does what it says on the box". Even thought the user guide say no to SVCD, it works great, plays all the films I've thrown at it. Mp3 works fine, but I haven't used that side too much yet. |

Well used machine, after five months of nearly daily use it is in the shop as the servo motor sticks regularly. MP3's are playable depending on the program that recorded them, I think this has to do with the way the program saves the titles and track info. For example I have MusicMatch Jukebox on my computer and my friend uses Easy CD Creator. Music Match created MP3's will not play on any Sanyo but Easy CD Creator MP3's will. Same tracks, same everything. I believe it is a fault with the program and not the the player.
Overall the player is very good value for the money and I would rate it as a good buy. |

Me again. That RF interference is worse than I
thought- it even gets into the cable TV and gets
recorded if the machine is plugged in while taping
ch. 2, 3 or 4. It's worst while the player is actually
playing. I've never seen anything like that before.
I'm going to try exchanging it for another of the
same model.
A couple minor issues: With SVCD the counter
takes 1m12s to count 1 min., so
elapsed/remaining time is wrong. MP3 couldn't
handle one CBR MP3- nothing different about it.
And when not playing, MP3 background is the
Sanyo logo, so hard to read.
As I said, these are minor. The RF problem is not. |

(1 point off as it seems to give off RF interference
to the RF modulator for my older TV. It was bad
when first plugged in (blanked out TV picture) but
then got better (!?). But it's a bad, or weak,
modulator, so that could be part of it.)
My Pioneer 343 died after 6 months. I was given a
$230 refund, and found the Sanyo at WalMart
Canada for $180 Can. I really like it! It has variable
+/- zoom, and plays mp3's (directories and 33 char
names), which the Pioneer didn't. You can browse
the mp3's while one is playing. And for VCD's of
non-standard dimensions, it sizes them to fill the
screen. (The Pioneer just played them all at x1 or
x2 size, so smaller mpegs played smaller, and big
mpegs (wider than 352) played tiny because x2
was too big). The manual says it won't play SVCD,
but it does (and even shows 'SVCD' in the display).
I tried SVCD's made by three different people. A
VCD mpeg at twice the standard data-rate (320
K/sec) skipped, but one at 240 K/sec played fine
(standard is 170 K/sec). I tried both Memorex and
no-name (silver-both-sides) CDr's and both
worked fine. My burner is not CD-RW so I could
not test those. I have yet to try a DVD to check out
another user's report of pixellation in dark scenes. |

| Well, so far I am very pleased with this DVD player. And I was pleasantly surprised as well. On the box, and in the manual, it clearly states that it plays VCD (2.0 compliant), mp3s, and DVDs. Yet, when I tried to play an SVCD, it played perfectly! I am very happy. This is a really good economical dvd player for the job it does. Very recommended. |
