nice player for the price. it is fully compatible with a multitude of video format such as MPEG1, mpeg2, divx, xvid, svcd, vcd etc. etc.
i don't agree with the critics of the last commenter, anyway it is not perfect: for exaple it only recognises 14 chatacters in filenames, it doesn't support ID3 tags for mp3, sometime it lost the a/v synchronization in divx (but it is mainly owed to bad encoded files).
MOreover, a display would be useful, and the remote control is not so well designed.
But for the rpice it is a good item, solid and durable (i have it since 1 year and i never had any problem) |

| Samsung P244 looks good at the beggining, but when you perform a deeper analysis, the worst is to come. I bought it because I saw all the divx compatibility stickers, but when you record anything on cd, no matter which brando or which record method you follow (no multisession, finishing the cd, etc.), if the format is .avi originally, when you put it on the player, it just don't work. Sound and vision are distorted. If you are looking for a fancy dvd player with divx .avi compatibility, I'm afraid to say that P244 is not your player. Ah! Forget about the firmware, there is not an specific one for P244, and the one from P245 doesn't work. |

Not all AVI files are played-back correctly. I have tried AVI with AC3 audio coding. On AVI with VBR audio the frames are played-back with pauses and interrupts. The software update on the WEB of SAMSUNG (which is advertised in user documentation) is absent. Not detailed information on AVI file formats supported ( e.g. max bitrate and so on) is given.
Some even poor track information on player front panel should be an advantage.
It has a rather good ratio of (features+quality)/price. |

Works as reported, did't tried so long.
It readed almost every media I inserted.
Some troubles with strange Codecs, but it works with DiVX3,4,5 and XViD for sure.
A trick hard to discover:
sometimes the player refuses to perform seek/skip functions. Various behaviour when you try, like the forbidden mark or a complete skip of video file.
The reason: audio e video tracks are of different lenght!
Try to recode with audio and video streams of equal lenght and it will work perfectly (tested).

A dvd player without a screen in front ? Not well thought.
A remote without separate dedicated FF and FR search buttons ? Plain stupid.
Good DVD quality. Not smooth Divx/Xvid but then again, I have only watched a few like this... |

very good item, it plays very well divx and xdiv, it has some problems with 3ivx video.
it allows fast forward (up to 8x) in divx and xdiv, it also allows fast search, juping to 5 minutes more pressing the next chapter button. I sometimes i found problem of audio sinchronization in case on vbr mp3 soundtrack, but it doesn't happens so often. The video quality is very good and the audio is very pleaseant (the analog audio output is surprising: the mp3 files sound much better than in any other player i tried, but also the audio cd sounds very clear and defined, almost like in my 300 euros rotel cd player!!!).
It has no frontal display, and it would be useful to use the player to listen to the music without using the television screen to navigate.
Very good compatibility with DVD-R movies, even if my other hitachi dvd player is better for such tasks. |
