CVD? $? over 1 year No rating Comments: SOMEONE PLEASE HELP. I TRIED THE HACK BUT IT WON"T WORK ON MY SAMSUNG DVD-511. I TYPED MY QUESTIONS AFTER THE PARTS I HAD QUESTIONS. HERE IS MY PROBLEMS: On various Samsung models this hack will also disable Macrovision, but you have to turn off the Quasi-PAL option and set the SCART output type to Video rather than RGB. (DO I HAVE TO DO THIS ON MY SAMSUNG DVD-511?) Always perform a Cold Start before applying the hack below 1. Power on your player 2. Press and hold both the Play and Stop buttons on the player 3. After a short while you should be presented with a set of language options. Release the Play and Stop buttons on the player 4. You will now need to select a language option between 1 and 6 (EVERTHING IS WORKING SO FAR. DO I TYPE IN 1 BECAUSE IM IN REGION 1 OR DO I TYPE THE REGION I WANT THE DVD TO PLAY IN?) To convert this player to Multi-Region playback 1. Press the Repeat button on your remote control (I HAVE TWO REPEAT BUTTONS ON MY REMOTE. WHAT ONE DO I HIT? AND WHEN I DO HIT ONE WHAT IS GONNA HAPPEN CAUSE WHEN I HIT THE BUTTON NOTHING HAPPENED.) 2. CVD? $125 over 1 year 4 of 10 DVD-RAM Comments: Works fine with all store bought DVD's including the strange macrovision encrypted Region 1 discs. Plays CD's and VCD's without a problem, but has never played a DVD-R despite many, many attempts. Not a bad basic machine, but lacking in features now.

N/A 5 of 10 Comments: Overall I like the DVD player. I have never had a problem with it playing stored bought DVD's. I have also had success with it playing store bought CD-Audios. My problem is that it does not play VCD's or SVCD's even though the manufacturer documentation says it should. Depending on the media used I get a "No Disc" error or a message saying there is a problem with the disc. I have given the VCD's I burned to friends and they work great in their DVD players so it's not the disc. I have tried Fujiflim CD-RW, Kodak CD-R Ultima 80, TDX CD-R, Verbatim CD-R, Prenga CD-R and CD-RW,Tecon CD-R and CompUsa CD-RW. Nothing works. I used Nero 5.5 to burn at 2x speed and I have tried Pinnacle Studio 8, again nothing works.

CVD? $? N/A No rating Comments: Being relatively new to dvd over the last 18 months I thought I was the mutt's with my new dvd511. Imaginine my surprise when I find that it plays absolutely b@gger all now and sits forlornly under me TV collecting dust. As for Samsung support...They couldn't even spell it. My humble advice for what it's worth...If u see a dvd-511 advertised for sale...leave it well alone. Final verdict--CRAP.

N/A 3 of 10 miniDVD/cDVD Comments: This truely is the worst player i have ever had the misfortune to come in contact with. When i first bought it, it played dvd's ok, but nothing special, but it rarely even does that now. If will take at least 10 attempts to get a standard dvd to play on a player that is only a year or two old? It says that it plays vcd's but only the legal bought ones. I have never been able to get it to play an vcd that i have made while other players play them no problem. Probably the only good thing about this player is the region hacks which can be activated via the remote control and work very well (well at least they used to!) As for Samsung support lines, i dont know how they dare call themselves support lines. i rang up with the problems that it was having in playing dvd's and they basically said that there is nothing that they will do about it and to fix the problem buy another dvd player. As for samsung, everything i have ever had from them has been total garbage and as a result i will never buy samsung again!

N/A 1 of 10 Comments: My first comment for this dvd player (dvd 511) is, it sucks. My next comment is, Samsung sucks (customer service and all). My gripe with this player started when it stopped playing DVDs a year ago. Thus i stopped renting from Prime Videos. I resorted to VCDs... it worked fine for a while. A few months later, vcds became harder to load. Now, it doesn't even load. Moral of the story: DON'T BUY ANY SAMSUNG PRODUCTS.

Do not use Filenames like "vts_01_1.vob" USE EVER CAPS! Warning: if you use PowerDVD to test play back before burning, be aware not to put the "Default.PLS" File (PowerDVD automatically generates!)on your DVD 3. Media Used (Use DVD Decrypter to optain Manf.ID): - "RITEKG03", violet Surface: good, no insert trick needed most times - "TDKG02000000", blue/violet Surface, not as good as Ritek but OK, no insert trick needed most times - Verbatim DVD-RW: not worked - TDK DVD-RW: not worked

Region hack does work, however, now that I have done the region hack, I can no longer view my DVD's in widescreen (16x9). I have tried about every imaginable combination of recording speed (max to 2x), media (AT&T, Memorex, generic?, but not Princo), format (MMC, NTIS,) etc. to find something that works. I used Ulead PictureShow 1.0, Ulead PhotoExplorer 7.0 and Ulead Photo Express 3.0 all with the latest downloaded upgrades. I can run regular, commercial DVDs on this machine and it works okay. I think Samsung should be hung up to dry for their poor quality and poorer instructions. I am now looking for another unit to play my VCD slide shows on........... Mike

It ONLY WORKS with Princo CDR (I write them at 8x, and works perfect), and also Princo CDRW (4x), but it recognizes them difficultly. When playing VCDs, the quality is MARVELLOUS. I've tested VCDs in other players, and quality is far away from this Samsung player. Try it if you can!!

N/A 5 of 10 Comments: Hi I ve tested a couple of DVD+RW-s, but not works (Sony, Verbatim and Imation) I ve tested the "put the disk to the opened tray then push Play button" method (as I seen this method works in some cases) but without results. The DVD+R works fine (Imation) The burner is a Sony, the software is NeoDVD, with default settings. The test "movie" was a home video. There are some one second "freeze" during the playback, I dont know that this comes from encoding or the player made it .....

I have tried everything, and I mean EVERYTHING, to try getting a VCD playing on my samsung dvd 511. Even went as far as ordering CD-Rs and RWs from outside of the US including princos and whatnot. NONE work and I know I'm burning right because my friend has a freaking kiss DVD player and all of my burns with different CD-rs worked. help! Oh, and does the region hack have anything to do with how the player will handle VCDs? Because I tried region hack and it wont work either.

N/A No rating Comments: I have had this player for awhile and posted here along time ago - I gave up on it and bought a few Apex players. I recently boght the Sony DRU500a DVD-+RW Combo drive. and The first DVD I burnt was dont ona DVD+RW disc using myDVD program to author and burn it. The video and menus work flawlessly in my apex, Of course :D . On a whim I put it in the 511 and guess what - works just a flawlessly. to be honest I was very suprised. The DVD+RW brand is sony DPW47. It came with teh drive. I am going to makes some DVD compliant CVD files and test it on the 511 and post here with the results. I will also test other formats . Sorry not sure what compatibillity mod ethe disc was made in myDVD is not very complex.
