I bought this player to upgrade my previous LG which did not have a USB port.
Pros-
Plays dvd movies well including DVD-r and DVD dual layer. Plays divx and xvid movies both off the disc and via the usb connection well, no problems so far after 1 month of use.
Cons-
User interface on the usb port is very basic to say the least. File name display is limited to 14 characters and worse still, does not display the file names in alphbetical order. I have been using the unit to play avi files via an 8 gig usb stick- for this purpose it is ok despite the short file names and random listing of file names.
Overall-
Can recommend this player as a good all rounder for casual to medium use. Would not recommend it if you want to plug in an external hard drive via the usb port that has hundreds of files with long file names- especially confusing if you have many long file names that are similar (such as if you have multiple episodes of a tv series). Of course Samsung may release an updated firmware upgrading the interface, but I can't see any evidence of this being likely judging by their web site.

| Played a few burned disks back including xvid and it played fine. Have to fiddle a bit between dvd player aspect ratios and tv zoom settings to display properly. Will not play CVD's. |

| I was a little hesitant to buy this at Wal-Mart but I was looking for a new DVD player that can play Divx discs and USB drives. I saw this one for $55 so I had to try it. I wasn't sure if it would work using DVD-R DL or DVD+R DL, I was very pleased when I got it home and popped in a disc and it fired right up no problems. |
