| In the abvove post, I noted that 4:3 material showed stretched on the Samsung. In a post on AVS forum, someone had swapped their machine for an August build unit, and his 4:3 material showed properly as pillarboxed. The forthcoming firmware update should update early build units, I should think. This is all very early stuff - buyer beware! |

No success on HDV transfer to playable Blu-Ray
or using CompactFlash slot
I transferred a 99 minute project to BD-RE using a Sony BWU-100A Blu-Ray burner. The provided viewing software, Cyberlink PowerDVD 6.6 BD edition played the disc just fine (see details on under that drive).
I went to an accomodating local retailer that had a Samsung BDP1000 playing commercial Blu-Ray movies with success. What was NOT a success was the home burned disc which would not load. The player had to be unplugged to eject the disc. This is, more than likely, a problem with the burning software.
When loaded with my own DVD project in 4:3 proportions, the player ignored the flag and showed it stretched to 16:9. Some may like this but I do not.
I also brought a CompactFlash disc from my Canon Powershot. I used the menu button on the remote to select "Photo", but a dialog box came up saying something like "no software to run".
None of this is terribly supprising at this early date (Sep 14, 2006) |
