Now for the annoyances: There are annoying NTSC style lines on the picture especially in the dark areas. Also the dvd draw opens so fast that the disc jumps out at you. DVDs will ocasionally rub inside the unit creating a "whirring" sound a bit like a helicopter taking off.
The resume function only works when you press eject, not when you press stop. Audio sync drifts over time. Counter continues when pause is pressed. Sound is rubbish. Menus are clumsy and unclear.
£38 pounds in the UK and I'm not surprised. Do everyone a favour, dig deeper and buy a cheap Tosh or Pioneer |

Bought this DVD online for £60. Fault occurred after about 6months. Ronin repaired it under warranty although it cost me £7 to post it to them.
Seems to play everything fine although it can not handle long file name MP3s and I had a problem when I authored a DVD with a slideshow and background music. When the picture changes there is a jump in the music
Recently bought a Yamada 5520 from Amazon for £35 including free postage. This player appears to do all the same things as the Ronin except it does not have progressive scan. All the setup menus appear to be identical. Bonus is that the music runs smoothly on the slideshow on the home authored DVD.
If you are considering buying a Ronin P80h I would take a serious look at the Yamada 5520 first. If you don’t need/want progressive scan then the Yamada is the one to go for.

| Bought this player specially for its Karaoke feature as I have other DVD players already. It produced very good sound and picture (using scart) and is excellent value for money. However I have to return this unit back to shop because the Karaoke feature does not have L/L, R/R or stereo audio selection (left, right channel used for removal of vocal for Karaoke). Additionally the mic inputs electronics are really lousy and it would hardly work with 5 different microphones of mine (JVC, Sennheiser and Audio Technica plus a couple of cheap ones). If I have the volumes for the mic turned up to 80% (in units software setup menu)the microphone is either just barely audible or no sound. Then when I turned the mic input to 100% the sound is completely distorted or very very faint. If unit is in use for normaly DVD use then it is superb value for money (at £50). The design looks great and matches well with my Panasonic VCR I bought this year. I have not tested not tested it for other functions as it failed me with the Karaoke feature and mic inputs but I would recommend it for non-Karaoke use. |

| The only thing I can fault with this player are the ridiculously bright LED's on the front panel. The blue LED which is illuminated when a disk is playing is like someone shining one of those LED keyring torches in your face!! Incredibly distracting and annoying. The Red LED when it is on standby is like a #!&@%$ laser! For now, until the warranty expires I have some black tape over the LED's (can still see them!) after that I'll get inside and fit dropper resistors. These are completely pointless as the flourescent display says everything you need to know. Methinks Ronin ordered a wrong batch of LED's! |

I have a P80H with Karaoke Feature and it seems to be okay. Played movies without any problems. But it is not multi regional and code supplied here do not work. I get the screen after entering 1379 and if I enter 8888 I get some number at the bottom of the screen BUT I SIMPLY CANNOT CHANGE ANYTHING.
I would appreciate if someone can help.

| just bought this player for 50 notes, plays all kinds of discs burned mpeg, vcd dvd, comes with firmware disk for permanent multi region, excellent value for the money, good picture, brilliant sound, lots of video & audio tweaks, very slim, no freezing, some of the more costly dvd players cannot play burned media. also comes with the audio leads, did not give 10/10 purely because of nothings perfect, but comes with glow in dark remote. |

a very versatile and capable mechine for the money.good quality picture and sound with added bonus of progressive scan through component video!karaoke is a gimmic i'll never use,but could come in handy for entertaining or if you have a young family! dvd-r playback is faultless if you make back-ups!lots of tweaking can be done through the menu options to get the best image on your tv!
note: the new version of this player with progressive scan cannot be handset hacked for multiregion! need to get a firmware update from Ronin,see my comment in the hack section!in my oppinion this beats Yamada dvd players which are simarlarly priced and seem to sell so well here in the uk! |

Superb.Has played anything I've tried on it with no trouble, and excellent quality.
Got it for £60 to replace a logix, and the difference between the two is like night and day. Considering the logix cost £150 I wish I'd found this first.
Even came with instructions from the people who sold it for region hack which worked perfectly too.
If you want a cheap, quality, reliable player then get this one.
