MP3 WMA CVD? $200 360 days 9 of 10 DVD-MP3 MP3 long filename DivX XviD DVD-RAM Comments: I bought the unit last year after Walmart was slow in replenishing a Philips DVD/HDD recorder. I did some searching and I found this unit on newegg.com for $200USD. It still runs without issues. With my past experience with a Philips DVD/HDD recorder that was terrible I was hoping this unit would fit the bill and I am very happy with it. The video and sound are excellent and very easy to use. It has long name file support and very good Divx/Xvid playback. It supports both PAL and NTSC formats. With the timeshift turned on you can pause and rewind live TV. Pros: Easy to use, Large HDD, Video/Sound are excellent, Easy Setup, Ease of use. Cons: Remote Control, Limited DL support, DVD Menus, can't play Divx/Xvid files through the USB. I highly recomend this unit to anyone looking for an inexpensive DVD/HDD recorder.

CVD? $? 60 days 8 of 10 Comments: Purchased from Canadian Computer Wholesaler in May 2007. Also purchased an LG LRH 790 DVR from a Big Name Furniture Warehouse. Just sent my LG in for dead optical drive. RJTech still going..... Quirky remote, but some features implemented better than the LG. May be hard to go back to the LG....

CVD? $? 1 days No rating Comments: Worked for a couple of hours. On HDD: Recorded from sat a 4:3 then a 16:9 (HD channel converted by the sat box to regular 4:3 LB), both in HQ mode. Result quite nice. Then connected DV camera through firewire and was able to control it with the recorder remote. Nice again. Recorded 1 tape ~1h (16:9 format) in HQ , not so nice as the TV recordings. Hmmm. Copied the DV recording to a DVD+R and after I finalized the disc (...99..100 Done) the unit powered down and couldn't start it anymore. Will replace it today.

Comments: Bought it with WD 320GB hdd (on sale at the same store - Canada Computers) and works great so far (its been less than 2 weeks). Plays Divx and XviD with GMC and Q-PEL no sweat, although choked few times on handful of XviDs (must be some 'non-standard' encoding used I guess). ================================ WARNING: ================================ PROBLEMS WITH DL +Rs ! Out ~100 DL discs I have tried with it so far, only 4 were playable on this unit! Haven't found out yet what was so special about those that played, but if I do I may report here again. REMOTE: Well, only one word comes to mind: HORRIBLE! Whoever designed it ought to be shot without mercy! Be prepared to buy (if you don't have yet) some good, "learning" remote and transfer original remote's features to it, or you'll be swearing every time you have to use original remote, im serious. Haven't test the tuner much (its basic analog tuner) but during the one test I did it seems there is some picture filtering going - no, not a TBC or such, you wish it was there ;) - because the recorded picture seems darker than originally aired. No such "effects" when recording from external source. Other than that its a very nice model actually. Too bad it doesn't recognize DVD-RAM discs. I see previous poster says his unit records to DVD-R/RW as well? Are you sure? I have just tried, and mine certainly does NOT record to DVD-R/-RW. Will post again in few months (if I still have it).

So far, I've put in a Seagate 7200.9 160GB hard drive in it and found it easy to install and to use. The picture quality of the recording in SP is very good, even off the TV tuner. Positive: -User upgradeable hard drive -Both DVD+R/W and DVD-R/W support -Easy setup -Great recording quality -Component Input -USB / DV input -Up to 3 hours of timeshifting -One Touch Recording Negative: -No EPG -Small buttons on the remote -No front composite input
