| This used to be a really good player, however it has slowly gone downhill over the last 2 years I have owned it. It used to play all of the formats that I could think of, except for mini-dvd on cd's. It would play it, just at half speed, which was odd. But Now, the same DVD+RW's and DVD-RW's that used to work in it do not. DVD+R's seem to work just fine, as do pressed DVD's, and audio cd's and mp3 cd's and jpeg cd's. It's just the rewriteables that don't work anymore. I haven't tried a DVD-R in a long time in there so I don't know if they work, but I would think that it would be fine. Anyway, I am pretty positive that I cannot recommend this player at all. Unfortunately it is probably way too late to return it to Walmart where I bought it. I just don't want to spend the money ever year or two to buy a new DVD player. |

Plays Dual Layer DVD+R DL discs!!!!
Software: DVD Shrink 3.2 & Nero 6.6.0.1 burn engine
Media used: Verbatim DVD+R DL.
Burner: Memorex Dual Format with Dual Layer
Burn Speed: 2.4x
I found that the burner does not seem to like Memorex DVD+R media.

| I like this DVD player. Beats my 5-disc Hitachi with a big stick. Plays VCD and SVCD w/no problems, but still trying to fix chapter support (worked fine before, dont know why now). Don't have a DVD burner, that's one reason I got this player. That and the fact that I don't have to buy 2 of the same DVD to get one to work (Unlike my Hitachi). I don't mind if there's only 1 friggin' light, it's a whole lot better than the Hitachi. Probably not the best, but I fully recommend it. |

| I just had to update from my post the other day. Something strange happened. As I was getting ready to take it back, checked the above media again. Everything played & loaded faster than the manual said it would. Decided to keep it a while longer. This player is not excellent, but it's not terrible. upgrade my rating to a 5. |

| This thing is a nightmare. plays everything I tried, only after 10 to 15 minutes of opening & closing the tray until it finally reads the disc. Will take it back & not risk an exchange. RCA has sunk further than I thought they could. |

| I really wanted to recommend this DVD Player. It looks great, plays great with store bought DVDs. It also plays DVD -R and DVD +R disks verey well. My problem s that this won't play DVD +RW disks and I just bought a spindle of 25 disks. Hopefully I'll be able to find another model that will play all formats. The reason I'm really disappointed is that this model actually states on the box that it plays DVD +RW disks as well as DVD +R, DVD -R & DVD -RW. I don't have any DVD -RW disks to try. Other than that I blike everything else about the RCA DRC212N |

I was very excited to buy this when I read the reviews, but was just as disappointed when I had to use it! A few reports said it would play MPEGISO files, well, unless I was doing something wrong it didn't, I tried Imation CD-R and Memorex CD-RW discs, no good. It did however play VCD on both discs just fine.
It played pressed DVD's real nice, but would not recognize my Verbatim DVD+RW at all. DVD-R authored with Nero 6.0 got me an error that it was the wrong region code, this was a movie off TV that I burned to DVD-R, not a copy-protected disc copy.
The remote and menu system are absolutely horrible, I mean horrible. The player is very clean and nice looking, even for silver, and if you are just playing pressed DVD's by all means consider it, for the price and how nice it looks you could deal with the remote and menus. Unfortunately for me, I have a nice RCA home theater with 3-DVD changer, but it won'y play any recordable discs, so that is why I bought this one, so it is going back in favor of a Pioneer 260.

I bought this player to replace an old Philips 825 that did not play DVD-R discs. This player works great for recordable DVD-R/-RW. I've been using the cheapest Comp USA media I can find without any problems.
I wish it had better MP3 playing features like shuffle all, shuffle inside a directory, and that the MP3 navigation showed the full file names (screen size limited). The MP3 support could be greatly enhanced with a little tweaking of the menu interface.
It also doesn't have any kind of a display, everything can be on-screen, but sometimes it would be nice to see the track / time without having to pull up the on-screen stuff. |

| Bought it at Wally World for $70. Plays dvd-r dvd+r dvd+rw really good.No glitches anywhere.I use dvd2one and Recordnow dx for about 75% of my dvd burning and dvdxpress for the other 25%.Plays vcd's good.jpeg's and mp3 worked really good too.Been looking in forums and message boards for about a week before buying and am really pleased with it. I'd give it a 10 but i wish it had more led's and display in the front instead of all of it onscreen display. I'll prob pick up another to replace my aiwa in the living room.... |

This player is much better than the RCA DRC220N that I purchased before last year. This player plays minidvd very well. It also will play mpegs without authoring, 9/10 times :D DVDR-/+ both play great, and Ive had no problems with it so far. It will not play mp3s burned to dvd, nor will it play vcd/svcd on DVD. I use the progressive scanning on my tv(s). On the Samsung CRT television and on the Sony Plasma TV, the black level is very saturated for some reason... there is an option to turn the black level down, which helped on the Samsung TV, but not the Sony Plasma. Also on the plasma tv sometimes the picture seems to leave digital artifacts...probably because its a completly digital setup (so said the Sony Store).... The optical out is also a little shotty... sometimes you will have to restart the movie or mp3 cd because the signal doesnt seem to make it to the surround decoder... even with $200 optical cable connected...This happens rarily though, so dont let it throw you off from buying it! After having the DRC220N, nothing can be that bad!
That is the only major drawbacks that I have seen on the player so far... for $120CDN its definitly worth it. And if you are using this player on a digital/HDTV, definitly get some good component cable... it makes a huge difference in the picture quality... if you dont have HD/Digital type of tv... use the rca video cable.. as you wont tell the diff with the expensive cable on a cheaper tv screen... |

This was an interesting player, I wanted an RCA, but not a silver one, sadly, times have changed and everyone wants silver electronics like the mid 80's.
The player does support XSVCD and CVD, however there is a bitrate limit. When the player encounters bitrates inexcess of roughly 2600kbps the video begins to jitter, lag, and distort. I presume that the player does not have a fast enough CD read speed to keep up with higher bitates. Resolutions in X(S)VCD/CVD are no issue.
The player DOES suppoty MiniDVD/cDVD, I have just tested a disk, and it played the cDVD as if it were burned upon a normal DVD disk rather then a CDR.
It can play ISO CDs with images and audio files, playing audio simultaniously while displaying pictures, however the seek time for these pictures is annoyingly slow, in the case of a Kodak Picture CD it would take upwards of 4-5 seconds to change pictures after reciving the command.
The OSD is somewhat clunky in use, and the included remote is an ergonomic nightmare, I recommend purchasing a larger RCA remote of the early 2000 style. |

I bought this specifically because it claimed DVD-RW compatibility and it does work great with DVD-R and DVD-RW. In fact this player has a lot of really great features but enough drawbacks to force me not to recommend it.
The player has a very good display in general, played almost every disc I put in it. It has very nice playback controls for zooming, scanning, and framing. It has a nice JPG viewer but large files will bring it too its knees. It has a fair MP3 player, but it plays audio CDs far too loud. It does NOT play SVCD formated DVD-R at all. This player has a very bad interface and remote. Simply skipping chapters becomes quite tedious. This machine lacks any front panel display save for a power light.
IMPORTANT NOTE: The player does not display properly on widescreen monitors. The display on a 16:9 monitor is distorted, off center, approximately 25% too wide, and you lose a lot of image off the right side. Unforgiveably poor engineering. |

| I just bought this from Walmart for $70. So far I haven't had any problems. The picture quality has been good. I tried one DVD+R and it worked. I tried 1 CD-R and it worked. I tried a whole bunch of DVD-R and they all worked. All the DVD-R were Princo 1X DVD-R media burned using "DVD X Copy XPRESS" on a "Pioneer DVD-RW DVR-105". I tried one store bought DVD and that worked fine too. I also tried one store bought CD and that worked as well. So far this player has been great and did what I wanted it to do (play my DVD-R media). It is a great buy at $70, it even has progressive scan, but I don't have a tv that uses that. |

This is a Very nice player so far. Only a few small things I don't like about it, but for the most part I have liked it. I have tested it Thoroughly and it has played EVERYTHING, including VCD, SVCD, MP3, JPG, DVD-/+R/RW, DVD-VIDEO, and CD Audio etc...
I don't find that the buttons on the "top" of the machine are that bad. It looks kind of interesting that way. It's easy to see them when I stand up to use it. An added bonus that I didn't realize until I brought it home and plugged it all in, the remote can also control my RCA TV and VCR in addition to my DVD player! That's so handy! I don't have to hang on to two remotes to turn volume up or down and change chapters etc... I don't know if it would work on other brands though.
One small drawback I have found though, is that there is no display on the front of the player. I guess it's not really needed with the on screen displays, but it would have been interesting.
I attempted to put a bunch of MP3's on a DVD last night to see if it would work, but it froze it up completely! Had to unplug it to shut it down. Of course, I had most of my mp3 collection on it, and all in the root of the disc. So, I don't know if it supports DVD Mp3 or not. Probably not. I haven't tried any DVD's with JPGs on it yet, I wonder if that would work? I'll try it out. Bought it at Walmart for $69. Great deal for all that it does! |

| Bought this player when my piece of crap Go-Video DVP853 crapped out on me right after the warranty expired (it was a piece of crap even when it did work) and plays everything I've thrown it's way. One warning: if you burn your Cds to their maximum capacity it won't play on this player. A great value. |
