CVD? $450 over 1 year 8 of 10 Comments: Love it. I had a bell exressvu pvr, stopped using it to record & record everything on the dvr. This way I can copy for my friends. I love the way the dvr skips time. Much better than the pvr.You can skip: 30 secs, 1 minute, 2 minutes, 3mins, 5mins, 10 mins. what is scarey is some shows you are using the 5 minute skip & still a commerical is playing! If you start watching 15 -20 minutes into the show, you can skip all the commercials. The tv guide sucks if you are using satellite, wouldn't know for cable. Don't use it. Uses auto tune in with the bev 3100 & set the timer to record in the DVR. The only thing I don't like with the pioneer 633hs is that when a scheduled recording is over it turns off. Which is a pain if you are watching on the same feed. Rating: 8/10.

CVD? $? 60 days 8 of 10 Comments: I had to write back to let everyone know it's a pain in the ass to get up and running, but the TV Guide function finally is functioning. I love the recording options and the output. I feel it puts my previous JVC Model to shame.I have found I can used DVD-R DL,but so far only Verbatim works, others nothing even recording to doesnt fully work right.Still love this machine though. Now if it only would override macrovision lol!

CVD? $? 4 days 8 of 10 Comments: TV Guide thing is all heywire so far. It just randomly clicks through my channels so far(I believe its still getting adjusted). Will not play Ritek DVD-R Dual Layer(White Inkjet Printable Kind). I am going to test verbatim and regular ritek later today! Does read printable DVD+R Dual Layer. Picture quality is great. Still getting used to the recording way seeing as I used to own a JVC. I will say so far im let down by its inability to read the dual layer -format!

MP3 WMA CVD? $400 5 days 9 of 10 JPG/JPEG Comments: I got this recorder for Christmas and have been playing with it for the last five days. It isn't very user friendly but it does get the job done. This is the second recorder that I have owned the other one is a iLo04. And I must say that is does produce a better picture than the iLo04 does. I have used the DV input to convert some home movies and it does a nice job. The TV guide took about three days to settle down. After that it doesn't seem to run all the time. The only thing that I use the TV guide for is to make a scheduled recording. If you are just channel surfing it doesn't work very well. But it does have a nice search feature. I have copied several things to the hard drive and then put them on DVD. The only media it will copy on it the dash(-) format. I tried the plus(+) format and it doesn't work. It will play the either format. I haven't tried a +RW media in it yet, but +R media plays just fine. If you copy something to the hard drive and it is greater than 4.7 GB. Then you try to put it on a DVD it will play the whole thing and recode it to make it fit. It does it in real time.

MP3 WMA CVD? $? 14 days 9 of 10 JPG/JPEG DVD-JPG DivX XviD DVD-RAM Comments: I have had the unit a couple of weeks, and have spent a lot of time in it. It is definitely not user friendly per se, even if one reads the instruction book. I began by making a coaster. Then I read more carefully, and cancelled more carefully, and got the gist of it. I have now made DVD-R, DVD-RW and DVD-R DL discs from movies recorded to the hard drive from Satellite, and from movies recorded to the hard drive from old VHS tapes. (yeah, I know, the quality doesn't improve, but I cannot get these in DVD, so the quality also stops deteriating) The movies from Satellite to HDD to DVD are perfectly acceptable for any but the most descerning Videophile perfectionist. The movies recorded from VHS to HDD to DVD have the same quality as the VHS tapes had, and will now stay that way. That is why I wanted this unit, so I am deleriously happy. The unit also says if the DVD is too small, and then changes the record to DVD to fit the disk. I have a four hour and fifteen minute version of the movie Dune, and it put it on a DL disc with no problems. I had a copy of the movie Alexander that is two hours and fifty four minutes long, and it put it on a normal DVD-R. I have done this with several seperate experiments and all have turned out at least as good as expected. I am not looking for miracles, just adequate reproduction, and I am getting all of that. The one coaster gives this unit a nine and a half, but the owners manual subtracts another half point, so overall a nine. Panasonic can slightly beat this on the end result video quality, but cannot touch any other aspect of this unit. Pioneer just makes good stuff. Both my single DVD burner and my Dual Layer in my computer are Pioneer, and generally, Pioneer also gives the best compatability to media. Sadly, this did not happen with the DVR 633H Home unit. No plus R generation of DVDs will work here, so if you are stuck on the +, don't buy this recorder. If not, you could not do much better.

CVD? $? 14 days 9 of 10 Comments: I bought this DVR a couple of weeks ago- really enjoying finally having one- I had been doing the HTPC thing, but my TV Tuner card bit the dust and I decided to go with something that my wife would be able to use easily. I can't say that I can technically review this machine- picture wise I think its okay, but was expecting a little bit better quality than what it does record. A couple of things I notice- I record Charlie Rose every weeknight- he has just a black background for his show- the black seems to not be quite as black when I play the recording relative to the original signal. It also just generally isn't quite as sharp as the original. My HTPC setup was a Haup PVR-350 tuner card and a MediaMVP box for the TV - I would say that this setup was actually just a tad better quality- which surprises me. I have to say though, that I only notice it when I look for it. I do have to say that the recorded picture is quite a bit better when I record via S-Vid in from my digital cable box than the built-in RF tuner. Unfortunately I have to use an external switchbox to switch my cable box signal over to this unit- and so I'm not apt to do that often- unless I want to record a channel that only can be displayed through the cable box...) I've read many reviews of people complaining about obtuse menu structure and remote layout when it comes to these dual HDD/DVD Recorder units. Unfortunately I have to say that the Pioneer is no different. After two weeks I've now got all the basic functionality down, and I'm pretty much able to remember what button I have to push to do what, but it's not intuitive- especially the TV Guide EPG as it relates to scheduling a recording. You have to know just which key to press to switch between the schedule and the EPG (to get back to the menu.) I have to admit I have yet to show my wife how to use it- that'll be the real test! Of course I'm not sure I want to share the hard drive with her. :) All in all, I'm happy with my purchase. I figure this is a stop-gap product for me until the equivalent in HD arrives (a unit w/ both a high density DVD recorder and large hard drive) and I'm sure it will fulfill my needs well until then.
