I have very conrtaversial impression about this player.
I bought it at Sams Club internet site.
It plays almost everything, the quality is good. For me it was important to have a player that plays DVD DL disks, it plays them good.
It stucked for me in the middle of "The Planet of the Apes" (2001) in the following way: ~1 sec played - ~5 sec paused - ~1 sec played etc. To finish with the movie I had to switch to another player (Toshiba): no problem with playing of this disk at all. The disk is in very good condition. No problem to play any other DVD that I have. Plays DIVX and XVID good.
The player has to be connected through its 5.1 output to have ability to listen to DVD Audio disks with full bitrate. The player's subwoofer didn't work, that I realized only in 2 months. Pioneer's CSR sent me to Sams because it is "foreign" model, Sams sent me back to Pioneer, then advised to call Pioneer in Singapur etc. The sent me back and forth for 2 months. Finally Pioneer agreed to repair the player and after 2 more months of attempts to repair it the agreed to send me another model of Pioneer.
I wouldn't advice to buy something from Sams Club site: they didn't inform me regarding the fact that this model is "foreign" fo USA and you will have a headache to repair it. |

A near perfect player for me.
It plays almost everything I throw at it, as long as the resolution is not to high.
The NTSC2PAL convertion is not great, but my TV does not care what I feed it with, so I do not need this functionallity.

I love this unit as much as i love my 588A which i have in my bedroom so when my avalon dvd player died in my living room i look for a better one and found they only sold the dv490 which sucks so was with out a living room DVD player for a few months till I found a US suplyer selling this unit for 165 plus shipping

excellent player for the price. great sacd/dvd-audio sound. improved divx playback over my previous pioneer (585AS). great picture quality with hdmi.
the definitive dvd player, at least until they add hi-def playback for about the same price, i'm not upgrading till then. |

Connected via the hdmi to a Pioneer PDP-436RXE plasma
it's the mutts nuts! It plays divx/xvid with both
.srt and .sub - subtitles.
The file browser for cds and dvds works just fine. It's also compatible with divxHD up to 1080i.

I do not own nor have I tested this player! I was just surprised to find it listed here because there is little mention of it elsewhere on the net, although some online shops have it for sale. So I decided to write some information here (copied from the net), hoping that someone out there can add an actual user report on what seems to be a very good spec player. The information below is not meant as some kind of advertisement for this player as that would be just an abuse of this good internet site!
