I know this player is highly thought of, so I may simply have had bad luck, but it worked properly for me for a very short time. When it did work, it worked well, and coped with all the media I had, and coped with disks in poor condition. However, after about nine months of use, the analogue audio output became heavily distorted, and shortly after this (over a period of weeks), the unit would intermittently freeze and reboot, with increasing frequency until eventually it would not restart, trapping a DVD inside. When it was returned from the first warranty repairs, it would not even start up. I sent it in again, and when it was returned 10 weeks later it at least would boot up, but it still froze and rebooted with increasing frequency, and eventually refused to start at all. So it is now back with the repairers for the third time. The unit should be replaced, but they wont replace it, and at some point they may refuse to repair it under warranty (it is already past the one year period, but the original 9 month problem is still being attended to). I have never had serious problems with other consumer electronics, and you simply dont expect problems these days. I will never buy another thing from Pioneer.

CVD? $175 4 days 9 of 10 Comments: I bought this model to replace my aging Wharfedale 750-S. I bought it multi-region ready from Richer Sounds and it plays my R1 discs as well as those that are RCE encoded. It also plays DVD+RW discs, which my Wharfedale couldn't do, (why I replaced it) and even makes recordings made on my Philips R-75, in 6 hour mode look much better than when they're played back on the machine that recorded them! Main reason for buying was because it's also an SACD player too, but was pleasantly surprised to find that it's also a DVD-A player as well. Only gripe was that with audio discs, it won't output digitally through either the coaxial or optical output. It had to go through the analogue 5.1 output instead and the output had to be switched through the onscreen menu from digital to analogue. But at last I was finally able to listen to my hybrid SACS of Dark Side of the Moon and that blew me away, as though I heard it for the first time all over again.

I use DVD+R Dual Layer no problem.

V spickovom audioretazci prehrava CD-audio prijatelnejsie, ako starsie CD porehravace. Nema problemy ani s poskodenymi a nespolahlivymi mediami, ak narazi na chybu, dokaze ju preskocit a pokarcovat. Pocet zaseknuti pri prehravani napalenych DVD kloesol na minimum. Po tom, co zlacnel na 7500 Sk, je to podla mna najlepsi DVD prehravac na trhu v tejto cenovej relacii. Bonus je SACD a DVD-audio. Zvukovy prednes je spickovy. Nenechajte sa spliest neinformovanymi obchodnikmi: prehra aj DVD-R aj DVD+R!!! Ludom, ktori nespavaju a citaju recenzie, aby kupili najlepsi pomer cena/vykon zdoraznujem, ze ide naozaj o spickovy vyrobok.

Must highly recommend the superb hacked firmwares at http://mtz.softpedia.com . Gives much better sub support, long file names, shuffle funktion for MP3, region free (choosable on remote) and other goodies. (MTZ actually has done the subtitle codepage modifications to foncreators great hack of the firmware.) The player doesen't however support "packed bitstream" just as about all players based on the MediaTek chip. Easy and fast AVI fix with mpeg2modifier, unpacks the stream without reencode. App available at http://www.moitah.net/ Rated it 8 due to the "packed bitstream" issue, would have been 9 otherwise. A perfect 10 I reserve for the player that fixes me a drink while im watching the movie ;)

The picture and audio quality are breathtaking, much better than I expected at this price range. The colors are so rich and alive, the sound are crisp and detailed, it even plays almost everything I throw at it, including DivX, SACD and DVD-Audio. With it's component outputs and progressive scan it gets the most out of my projector. One of the most enjoyable players ever!

(+) very reliable and not picky to discs (since today it refused only 1 burned DVD-R Verbatim, what can played on my PC), good ECC, hacked FW with CZ/SK Subs and long filenames available from MTZ, playes all types of discs and all common formats. (-) no any big problems found, only missing the SVCD-Subs and DVD-RAM support. P.S. My wish list is to add DVI, USB and LAN interface for next model (DV-585A)to Pioneer.

Also many possibilities of custom adjustments of the picture: gamma, brightness, sharpness (very good feature - makes picture look even better!), etc. + Played everything that I threw into it It even played unmodified MPEGs ripped directly from old Philips CDi video discs, which in usual cases must be re-encoded to play properly on DVD-players. + Great sound settings Many useful sound settings including very good 2ch downmixing, which is very usefull if you have your player only connected to a StereoTV and play a movie with DD 5.1 sound only. The downmix sounds great on TV and you can hear dialogs loud and clear. + SACD / DVD-audio support I tried only Nine Inch Nails - "Downward Spiral" SACD/HybridCD-edition so far. I'm not an expert on this sound format yet, but I can say it played it well. + Great DivX / Xvid support! 2CD XviD rips, with higher bitrate and AC3 sound (DD 5.1) look almost like real DVDs!!! And with the Firmware that enables Divx sub-support having been finally being released this player har really become great! - Practically impossible to make it region-free on your own as you need external devices to do so. Therefore you should look for it in smaller stores where they are selling it already with region-free option. - A more noisy one during operation. Especially when playing CDs, you can hear sometimes spinning sounds of the disc when its really quiet in the room. Even "ticking" sounds from the machine during playback, which is something that I've noticed on literally every DVD-player that I tried (Philips DVP-630, DVP-720SA, Yamaha DVD-S550). It seems almost like the manufacturer have done this with purpose so you have to buy a real CD-player for CD-playback. ----------------------------------------------------- A BIG NOTE HERE!!! I've noticed that some people are complaining about playback of certain DivX movies not being stable or smooth (stuttering). Your DivX movies are most likely using so called "packed stream". Before actually burning them on CD/DVD, use the tool called 'Mpeg4Modifier' to check the files out. If they turn out to be in packed stream mode, then simply unpack them. This is very easy and pretty fast procedure and after that your movies will play well.

CVD? $? 3 days 8 of 10 JPG/JPEG DivX Comments: Pretty good Player. But I am experiencing problems regarding DivX/XviD, maybe someone knows a solution. Some DivX are played black/white with a grid pattern, which is extremly annoying. I figured that it might relate to the lacking support of XviD. Does anyone else has problems with XviD playback? Another problem is that sometimes DivX are played back not very smooth. However this is limited to few scenes only. I don't know if this might relate to the bitrate of the encoded DivX. Contacted Pioneer as well but didn't get any reply yet. Other than that this player is great. It has a very nice GUI, and lots of functionality. Small in size and big inside. Must buy!

Tried a mix of various Mpegs together with DivX, XviD and MP3's on a DVD+RW, played it all in file mode. The reason it doesen't get a score above 8 is that the DivX/XviD playback is somewhat crude. Looks like there is no postprocessing or filtering at all and a slight stuttering in video can be noticed somtimes. Has superb video on DVD and exellent audio and that's what's important to me. NB. Have ticked "MP3 long filename and folders support?" but this is because i run with MTZ hacked firmware. Sooo much better DivX subs as well... go chack http://mtz.softpedia.com/

CVD? $? 1 days 6 of 10 Comments: This player should have a rated a 9 -- decent looks and built quality, great feature set, excellent sound and picture. Unfortunately, I experienced some flickering in certain DVD scenes and also in the player setup menu with a good quality RGB SCART connection to my TV (Sony 32" widescreen). I had exactly the same problem with two different Pioneer 565 DVD players I tried last year too. It seems to be an issue with (at least some) Pioneer players and some TV sets when using an RGB connection. Digital satellite and other brand DVD players both work fine with RGB connections to my TV. So this player isn't usable for me unless I drop back to s-video connection, which means a noticeable drop in picture clarity. It really isn't acceptable for a player to have these kind of issues so I returned it and went to another manufacturer. If this player works for you without any picture issues then it should be a winner. If not then look elsewhere.

CVD? $? 4 days 8 of 10 DVD-JPG DVD-MP3 MP3 long filename MP3 ID3 TAG DivX Comments: Even after Firmware-upgrade to v. 2.09 (which is somehow hard to get hold of on the net and Pioneer is not putting it on their support site for download !), a few features are missing: the file browser is primitive (reads only the first 14 signs of a filename) and there is still no shuffle-play for MP3-CDs/-DVDs. I really hope Pioneer is working on that.

The Pioneer DV-575 is an excellent player; video and audio quality is like a top gamma player (expecially if connected with 6 channel output, needed for sacd). It plays everything and, sorry for Sony, Philips, etc............is a Pioneer.
