N/A 1 of 10 Comments: As many others a also report, this machine is unstable. I have had it crash (green screen) on DVD-r and on Standard DVD's and the problem occurs when it feels like it. I think as a DVD player it fails totally as playing DVD's reliably I would think is a basic requirement! I have had enough of watching a film .. wondering if it will make it all the way through.. I am still awaiting a response from the On-Line place it was bought from.. But we clearly have a duff product here. Seems too many people have the same problem for it to be a standard "fault". On the plus side.. it has played any and all media i have thrown at it.. from cheap Bulkpaq upwards. My View... buy something else!

N/A 8 of 10 JPG/JPEG MP3 ID3 TAG Comments: Hello. I already posted information at February 02 2003. Yoe can find above. I gave the player back to the dealer to sent it to an "Pioneer certfied" workshop for testing what the problem is. They could reproduce that error with the green screen, but who have to play the DVD from beginning to the end, that important! When you skip during playing the DVD the error does not occur. Well, after they could reproduce the error they start to repair. When I got it back I called the workshop to get information about what they have done. They changed the "laser-unit" and they fixed a "function-control-error" which they also found. Now I have got it back and it works fine. I hope this information will be usefull to anyone else. CVD? $300 N/A 7 of 10 MPEGISO Comments: I bought this type because it could read jpeg files without having to translate them by programs as nero or dvdeo. As I read in another report: it is very slow! so don't by this because you want to use it for pictures. Another problem is the Svcd's. I use Pinnacle Studio 8 to make my own movies and also to convert my old VHS movies to VCD or SVCD. The VCD's are excellent to view, but the SVCD's are not shown in the right format. When I play them on the computer DVD-player it is no problem, also with WMP 9.0, no problem. But the DV 550 turns a 4:3 format into 16:9. Which means that all my family members are getting real fat. In the shop they don't know what it can be. Also when I burn SVCD with Nero I have the same problem, so Pinnacle is not the cause. Design is perfect, sound is okay, I have no problems with normal DVD's so I give a 7, because of the slow pictures and the problems with SVCD

CVD? $250 N/A 5 of 10 MP3 long filename Comments: Got same problem like it is already posted: During normal DVD-video watching the player stops with a green screen and does a reboot. After that it loads again the menu and I have to search the chapter where it stops :-(( I have that symptoms with all DVDs I have played (total 5 now). Another strange symptom: when I played the first time the brand new album from Robbie Williams/Escapology the player couldn't detect the kind of CD type. In the display you could see: LOADING -> STOP -> DVD. After that the CD does not run. Then tried it with CloneCD copy of it and it works! After that I tried it again with the original CD and it works, too!? Strange but now it works with no problem. I will ask now my dealer what we can do at that problem. N/A 8 of 10 JPG/JPEG Comments: I posted a report about this DVD player here earlier. Since that time I have watched 40 movies. It have rebooted one time. I spoke to pioneer right after. They told med to send the 550 to them. He suspected a weak component. But he found it a bit strange since it had only happend once. But what the heck I will send it in and let him fix it. He sent me a return paper. So I don't even have to pay for the shippment. But he wouldn't make it region free as a bounus. He told me he wasn't allowed to. I understand that this can be done with a special remote controll (don't know). Anyone got a hack with the normal remote control? I am very happy with this DVD player. And the support from pioneer. Plays anything I throw at it mp3 cds/VCDs/SVCDs/DVD-R and DVD-RW. The picture and audio quality is perfect. I have hooked it up to my philips widesceen tv using a RGB scart cable and a digital coaxial cable to my sony ac3 reciever. But when I try to display 4 mpixel jpg files it takes about 20-30 seconds to change to the next one. Have to rezise the pictures to a smaller size. Then it's fast. But since it's supposed to support 8 mpixles I can't see the reason for the slow loading of pictures. Pioneer told me large files=long time. That sucks. I will only give it 8. The reason: - 1 for rebooting once - 1 for slow loading of 4 mpixel jpg files. The rest is perfect.

DVD from the shop are the problem, I had several times contact with pioneer, The want me to send the player to a servicepoint, the have curently no informatie about this problem and the want me to send the DVD also with the player. Sorry no can do. Wen you buy this player, BE ADVICED OF THIS PROBLEM.

Sometimes the player boots during a movie. The screen becomes green and the dvd starts from the beginning of the movie
