It is not meant to read anything else, but it does it well. It lacks a RGB ou YUV connection but its Y/C (S-Video) connection is very good I knew that it was compatible with CD-R and CD-RW because of a second LED system, but when I tried to make it read a DVD-R and a DVD-RW in 2002, I was surprised that it could read it without any problem ! Idem for DVD+R and DVD+RW ! But the most surprising thing is that it is able to read also the DVD+R DL !!! At least Verbatim and Datawrite ones...

CVD? $500 N/A 5 of 10 Comments: For some reason some DVD-R (Ritek) copies do not play proprly. From backups to my own home movies on DVD-R they skip, stall or become garbled. They ALL play fine on a friends LG dvd player, all DVd rom drives and Playstaion 2. This machine might just be old. Anyone with a similar expereince?

N/A 8 of 10 Comments: Has it since 1996 and still working everyday!. A region code 3 player hacked to region free. Play some compliant VCDs but starts to eject them as it gets hot. Excellent quality on all DVD-Rs that I've burned. Great on DVD-Audio too. Load the DVD Super Audio Disc from Chesky Records and the 96/24 kbits indicator lights up with song title images display on TV. Conclusion: One of the best DVD player at it time.

N/A 8 of 10 Comments: Well, I've been doing some testing with SVCD which seems to play fine in my player. I tested with numerous bitrates, ranging from 300-4000kpbs. That range is fine until you reach around 2400-2500kpbs, above that you start getting noise artifacts (little pops). The manual also states that only 74mins cds can be played. However I've used 80mins cds without any problem, and a person above mentioned that this player can play longer that that!

CVD? $350 N/A 9 of 10 Comments: This is a superb player for its time, although players these days out-do it features-wise. I thought that i would take the oportunity to report that it plays VCDS on the new 90+ min cdrs and i found it can play up to about 95-7 mins before it cuts out. With this in mind, you can create VCDS which contain say 95mins of movie (many films can now be stored on one 90+ min CDR at VCD standard - since it does not play any other type like XVCD or SVCD etc). The only "problem" is that the actual minute counter on the front of the player STOPS after 89 minutes! but the movie continues to play!! Overall its an excellent player - but sadly out of date! but i know for a fact thyat it plays these new CDRS and not even my DV-626 can play beyond 88mins, so this i great!!

CVD? $350 N/A 9 of 10 Comments: My 515 is a Region 3 Modified to play all regions. It is the Champagne color box. DVDs play without a SINGLE problem. I have an enormous amount of VCDs, either originals in their factory pressed state, or copies of originals (some copied at 6x using a PC - on all makes of CDR) and also DVD2MPG squeezer VCDs (which look absolutely amazing) and they all run perfectly. The only thing you dont get (which you get on standalone VCD players) is the menu system built into the discs - but that doesnt matter because you can use the player remote (or the buttons on the front of the DVD player itself) to access the chapters (ie - trailer or movie segment, etc). Top tip: when playing VCDs, instead of pressing "PLAY" on your remote or on the DVD player - press the "1" button - which will play the VCD from the beginning and also will display the "time and current chapter" on the DVD Backlit disply. If you simply press "PLAY" all you see on the DVD player is "PBC PLAY" and you dont know what chapter you are watching or how far into the movie you are.
