Picked up the player last weekend (Mar 29/09) at 2001 Hi Fi for reduced price of $85 (Was $109). Works great so far. Divx loads up really quick compared to my older 1080i Phillips (now dead). Haven't tried USB yet but after putting a Disc with Divx files in the player, the player doesn't automatically display the files on the screen. I made a guess and pressed the MENU button and only then did it show the files, kind of weird. I didn't read the manual but it would probably tell you same thing.
To my surprise, this unit also reads UDF formatted DVD discs, amazing eh. IMO, this player is thumbs up all the way.

It's been a few years since I've ripped any dvds so I'm somewhat of a neo-user again but I'll offer my experience with this so far.
I wanted a PVR and I'm currently using a hauppauge TV Card, GB-PVR and this player.
It has worked perfectly with the following brands of -r dvds.
Comp USA
Phillips
Maxwell
HP
Verbatim
These contained a variety of ripped DVD,s and TV captures. Some of the files where transcoded to Xvid and Dvix. I haven't experienced any jagged edges with this player. (playback via standard TV)
I have also used a Kingston 2gb thumb drive via the usb port and have watched xvid and dvix files with no issues.
By adding a portable drive,a WD passport, no power supply will be needed. I'll have an easy way to move my archived videos and dvds from my computer to the player.
It has both the USB and a HDMI port.
At 69.00 for this via Walmart.com. (out of stock now)
My only regret is I didn't buy two.
