Comments:
great DVD player. I've had it for well over a year now. Remote sucks, but i use a pronto.great buy if u can find it, high end of last year. I'd love the dv-48, but it $1800 - erp!
i bought a 343 to play SVCDs, but VCDs on the dv-37 looked better than the SVCDs on the lower unit - something to think about.
do u have a HDTV? if not, you got going to take advantage of progressive out put (480p) and this units or the selling point ot 480p should be left off your list.

Comments:
The Pioneer DV-37 has been discontinued and is being replaced by the new DV-47 which adds support for SACD and DVD-Audio.

The DV-37 is an awesome DVD player. Anamorphic movies come to life on an HDTV due to it's Progressive Scan with 3:2 Pulldown capabilities. It has the ability to automatically determine whether or not a DVD is anamorphic or not and switch between progressive and interlaced scan output as appropriate.

Colors are vivid and true. I have not seen the chroma error reported by others where reds apparently are overdone (reportedly a big problem with Toy Story). Reds look perfect with my DV-37.

The DV-37 offers lots of video tweaks as "Digital Noise Reduction." I use the built-in "projector" setting and get great results.

Video and audio quality are outstanding (I have a Denon 3802 AV reciever and a Mitsubishi 65" HDTV). Progressive scan video is almost unbelievable. This DVD player makes anamorphic DVD look very film-like.

Bummer that some DVDs (notably from Fox) are not anamorphic and will thus not look as good on 1 16:9 HDTV as they will get stretched and distorted. For these, you need to view interlaced. Ho hum.

As expected the remote is a piece of junk, as are all other Pioneer remotes. I have a Philips Pronto - that solves that problem.

Overall an excellent DVD player. Highly recommended. You can find them for about $500 these days.

Comments:
Plays VCDs only in it's native format (NTSC or PAL). PAL it resizes and looks messed up on a NTSC set.

DVD-R and DVD-RW work great! Special circuitry eliminates noise from older programs or lowering the bit-rate to hold more programming on a DVD-R. I can get over 4 hrs per DVD-R and on this player, looks superb! Other players, though, the 4 hour mode doesn't look as good.

An awesome player for DVDs! Now close out at $499...
