My first and greatest DVD Player I have. It even plays cheap DVD-R media burned at 4x that don´t play in any other DVD Player I tested.

I got other 2 most recent DVD Players, and they don´t manage to play Smart Buy DVD+RW, but DV-333 does.

I had bought this DVD player about 4 years ago, not knowing much about DVD's, as this is my first DVD player, and will be my only DVD player as long as this one lasts... or, until Pioneer makes another great DVD player, with all the same capabilities, AND MP3 support (DivX would be nice too....)
This DVD player has to be one of the best players out there, as it can take ANY S/VCD, DVD, and CD media that I can burn (And I burn only the cheapest available... hehe...)
If your looking for a good DVD player, and can find one, get it! I have never had a problem with it, not the auto-closing tray problem, not even a noise problem...

When I got this model two years ago, I must admit, I didn't know what I was buying. Now looking back on it, I have to thank that FutureShop sales guy who recommended this player over Sony (more expensive) player. I am very happy with it.

One drawback would be not supporting MP3s.

Hi all,

I just encountered this site because I was having problems playing DVD on my DVD player (Pioneer DV-333)

I have two DVD movies that were recorded on the medias DVD+R, and DVD+RW. They work well when I play it on my PC. However, when trying them on my DVD player, it does not want to play.

The media I am using is FujiFilm DVD+R. I read other peoples comments about this DVD player and it states that it plays DVD+R and DVD+RW. How can this be? Should I be trying a different brand media?

Thanks,

It played everything I put in it. The only "problem" is when the bitrate is too high, the player plays it but some images skips... A bit anyoing but can easyly be fixed by lowering the bitrate.

I personally think this is one of the best DVD players out there...only thing that's missing is a multi-disc changer, but pioneer has a multi-disc changer version of the dv333...just a tad bit more expensive. I've had it for nearly 3 years, and to be honest, it has not failed me once. I've abused it over the years as I constantly use it to test my DVD rips, rather than to sit down and watch a complete movie. Yet, it still works perfectly. Plays SVCDs perfectly, and works with all sorts of media. I've use really cheap, generic crap...and it still works fine. There have been some glitches that appear when playing on the dv333, but not on the computer. However, this happens on the expensive media, as well as the cheap ones...so I think it's more of a burning issue. Keep in mind, this happens like 0.1% of the time. I've burned over 3000 CD-Rs.

I've switched over to burning DVD-Rs, and the dv333 plays them perfectly, even the cheapo 1X Princo I use. In fact, there were a couple of DVD-Rs I screwed up in burning. The .iso image got truncated at 3.99 gigs because I'm still using win98 (FAT32). The screwed up DVD-R will not play in my DVD-ROM, but actually played in the dv333. So far, only 1 DVD-R (out of nearly 60) showed glitches when played in my dv333, while not showing up on my DVD-ROM. However, I reburned it, and the glitches went away.

So, if you're looking for a standalone dvd player that will last long-term, then look for dv333 or it's successor dv343. They're built to last, unlike the more recent cheap (sub $50) dvd players that seems to be as versitile as the dv333, but made with cheap compenents, so will probably not last.

A great player. Got it Xmas 2001 and am only commenting on it now after a year of good use. Got another brand origianlly and exchanged it for DV-333 after recommendation from a friend.

Plays scratched rental DVD's usually perfect when my other cheap oritron player chokes on them.

Plays all CDR/CDRW media I throw at it including Memorex Sony Fuji + a dozen CHEAP brands.

I watch as much S/VCD as I do DVD and this player has played everything so far in a range of bitrates.

I guess if I had to say something bad about it, well the scanning speed (one speed) is a little to slow, and is somewhat unresponsive. Remote controls can be unresponsive in general, but it doesn't detract too much from the use of this superb player, which was a great price for the features. (At least in 2001 when I bought it.)

I've had this player for almost 3 years and paid a crap-load of money for it when it was new.
It was an excellent player for those years but I've recently had a lot problems playing DVD's. It's freezing on menus and having trouble when changing chapters on discs that were previously working fine.
Sometimes a quick press on the FF button will start the disc playing normally again but not always. Other times it helps if I disconnect it from the powersource for a minute or two.
It seems the problems get worse after using SVCD's. My first problems started after the first time I played an SVCD. Though I must say that it still plays SVCD's and VCD's perfectly.
It's unfortunate the DVD capabilities of this player are dying because I loved it and now I have to look into a new one.

I bought this DVD player about Oct of 2001 and have only had one problem with it so far. It hung on a spot in the Kate and Leopold movie. Other than that, it works like a dream. I have played many VCDs with it and not a problem. If you want a cheap DVD player that will support VCDs I would definately recommend this one.

I'm one of many who've lost the ability to play commercial DVDs with this player. It handles VCDs and SVCDs like a dream, but it hangs within the first few seconds of a DVD menu. I vainly tried a DVD cleaner disc, and it locked up on it's menu too...

I love the crap out of this player, and it worked great for almost a year, but everything I'm reading about it and the DV-343 (which I was considering buying to replace the 333) says that this is a recurring issue.

I'm seriously researching a new player, but I want one that will handle all of the VCDs and SVCDs I burn, as well as commercial DVDs.

I've had this player for at least a year and it still plays anything I throw at it. The picture quality is good but not as good as the Panasonic I had before this(which had a big list of what it couldn't play). That player went bad after 6 months (would randomly not read comercial DVDs).

I only have 2 gripes with my Pioneer:

1. Recently, it seems, my pioneer has started to open then close quickly when I try to eject a DVD or put one in. I have to almost coax the tray out with some fancy button tapping.

2. This drive is noisy. I can hear it quite clearly from across the room.

Of course I bought it because it played everything. All in all, I'm happy with it.
