CVD? $? over 1 year 8 of 10 JPG/JPEG DivX XviD Comments: Hi, I have been using this DVD player for more than one year, and I'm pretty happy with it, mostly because it is able to read several different formats (however, I have to confess I don't use all its functionalities - like radio for example -). I only had two issues (and still have ;-)): . Sometimes, issue with subtitles (but I read reports related to this, and I think a firmware upgrade wll solve the issue). . Issue with some avi(I'm missing real English words to describe properly the problem ;-), but I will try: some avi seems to be played in "slow" mode... I have to investigate the codec used to encode those avi). To summarize, I believe this is a good home cinema and that people looking fo a good dvd player with good sound can choose it.

After an upgraded to v36 of the firmware I could not store radio channels anymore!! So each time if I want to listen to radio I must scan through all the possible channels to get the one that I want, and whenever I try to store it, it just resets!! This sucks!! Also the MP3 issue of not going to the next folder REALLY sucks!! Can't the philips guys do something about it!!!! This system is not that bad for a first system.

I had the whole 1st, 2nd and 3rd season of Family Guy on one DVDR+DL (TRAXDATA - burned with Plextor PX-716a). But what i hate the most, are the sound equalizer presets. None of them sounds good (the best preset is ROCK). Where is the custom equalizer option (Bass and treble would be good)? If you press+hold the 'SOUND' button on the remote, display shows FREQ1, FREQ2, FREQ3 and FREQ4 - but where do you change the values? More info to come...

Support for DivX/Xvid subtitle files good after firmware update, if they are not too long.

The player does support latin/greek/cyrillic, only that I don't know how to make it work. No info whatsoever about setting and using subtitles in the manual. Sound's great, I had no problem with any mp3 bitrate, divx, xvid and jpeg files. Good player, only that the manual explains more thorough how to press a button than what does that button do.

CVD? $300 30 days 1 of 10 JPG/JPEG DivX Comments: POOR TECHNICAL SUPPORT!!! DivX: problems with subtitles - missing some Czech characters, bad synchronization! DivX: sound goes out on some disks (Czech dubbing). Need to press pause (or stop) and play buttons. VCD: inserts gaps between scenes!!! Grrrrr... Sound volume problems - increases volume without any interaction!!! Decreasing volume in that occasion is made with a BIG JUMP in the audible volume level!!! Very important sound issue: to setup volume level for each channel you need to press STOP button. If not stopped menu setting is NOT AVAILABLE!!! CAN'T BELIEVE THAT!!! JESUS CHRIST, HELP PHILIPS PROGRAMMERS!!! DVD: random black thin horizontal lines when displaying subtitles (Lord Of the Rings: The Fellowship Of the Ring). Missing Czech language on the menus. ======================================================= Generally speaking: DON'T BUY IT!!!

CVD? $300 2 days 10 of 10 JPG/JPEG MP3 ID3 TAG Comments: Excellent sound and picture quality, tried a LG LH-D6230 system earlier but returned it for it's miserable sound quality. Bought an optical-to-coax converter for 20e and connected my Xtreme DVB-S receiver to the Philips, Dolby Digital multichannel sound works great! A very good system and not too expensive either. :)

DivX, XviD player DVD player Mp3 player Cd player ... Pro: Reads DVD-RW and DVD+RW. Read more subtitles for each divx movie. Plays mp3 file and display jpg images in the same time. Searching through divx is really fast. Displays and scrolls ID3 tag on its own display (8 characters) while playing mp3 file . Contra: No croatian letters in subtitles First letter in each subtitle line is something like "]" Doesn't play wma (and wmv :) Ugly or not so pretty font used for subtitles No long file name support (showing only first 8 or 10 characters - I don't remember exactly)

CVD? $350 7 days 10 of 10 JPG/JPEG MP3 long filename MP3 ID3 TAG DivX Comments: IT IS GREAT !!! very good remote control - it works from any angle. It works fine together with Philips TV. DIVx and Xvid Subtitles: subtitales are displayed only if: - the filenames must be like: The_Ring 1.avi + The_Ring 1.sub. - Format of subtitles must be like: "{3246}{3289}- Myslím, ze bol zly príjem...| - O com to rozprávaš?" - slovak & czech national characters supported: äáéíôš both upper/lower cases. The rest are displayed badly. Need to be replaced. - after new line sign "|" it cuts out 1 character, so it is good to replace "|" with "| " - sometimes it cuts out last 1 or 2 chracters from the end of 2nd line - usually it adds one stupid character at beginning of the 1st subtitle line. - sometimes it stops playing the subtitles, you should a little rewind the movie, than it is fixed. - when DivX or XviD is not 25fps than subtitles are desynchronized. I experienced with 23.985fps XviD. Subtitles are playing good on PC, because they are correct, but Philips does not play it correctly. To fix this, you must change speed of the subtitles from 25fps to 24fps. (I used vplayer subtitle editor ). You will see that the {start}{stop} frame number will increase in the sub file after your modification.
