Just opened mine up cause it wasn't reading any discs anymore, intermittantly for a long time, and just now not any anymore, and saw it had an MT1389FE, not EE chip onboard. It's 2,5yo, and lately it had been stubborn when loading (not even spinning up, and then spitting it out, or spinning and saying error disc), which usually solved itself by me being stubborn and keeping at it pushing the discs in, after a few tries it usually worked. this time it outstayed me, so I opened it up hoping there was dust. but there wasn't, really. eventually held it at an angle and gave it a light shake, that seemed to wake it up. so I guess that's what I'll do next time. btw, there's no complete drive inside, as in the hdvdr720 and dvdr725H hd/dvdr players I also had/have, it's an open tray, you see the disc spinning. pretty cool. otherwise I'm pretty damn happy with this thing, even though cause of the dvdr I dont use the vcr part anymore.
