| I have about 20 of these players :) 90% of them are with the same problem- not reading any disk. It is not the firmware or dirty lenses problem. The problem is the flexible conductor from laser lenses module to main PCB. As this conductor is glued neat the moving head, after some time it is broken. Just open your DVD player and watch the conductor- if it is bend something like 90 degrees near connector- the problem is solved. Just replace conductor (or fix it, it is easy is you have good /dev/hands). And don't glue new conductor as Philips engineers- leave lots of space to flex. Enjoy your NEW player |

It's broken down! Is that what we should expect, that it works barely beyond the warranty limit?
It just quit like that, one fine day, without warning. I've tried cleaning up the lens, no luck.
It's a shame that even Philips make lousy equipment like this. Someone must have had the brilliant idea of saving a bit somewhere, maybe the laser, I don't know.
If they are more expensive and equally untrustworthy, why should we spend our money on their products?

Good, cheap basic player for any media you can shovel in it. Have some problems with non-originals (mainly w/DivX packing), making slight jerking. Not very disturbing, but if you're a freak - well, don't get this to be your primary player.
Subtitles don't work unless the name is the same as the movie. BAD!
Easy operating with enough options. You can continue watching the movie where you left it. |

Nice player, dull remote, excellent pricture when playing DivX and XviD. Not nice picture when playing DVD (even my old Panasonic with just 54MHz/10 bit DAC has better quality pics).
All in all worth the money, but the quality of the remote and the picture in DVD mode could be a lot better. |

this is a corrective of my last report.
by pressing "1" for 2- seconds, it places the dvd player back to interlaced.
some DVD discs are not compatible, last disc I have found is the "imation".It didnt play the last 5 minutes of my DivX movie.
this player accepts multisession burn, which is nice if you want ad moree subtitles in srt format by exemple.
in general:it is a good DVD player while you wait for the blue ray players.
con: price in europe, around 130-145$ with shipping. |

This is is my first report for the DVD player Philips 3010, plugged to a benQ beamer, I have not been able to test all features:
Loading and starting the disc is very slow (up to 40 seconds), on 35 DVD+-R (reauthored) I have tested and some TDK medias have been refused with a “Unknown disc” inscription, 4 other brands of media have been accepted, I strongly suggest the Sony DVD+R for this player, and I suggest to keep your old player as a backup.
I have real problems to jump in the pages in the menu. Remote control is hard to use and there is not button to change from progressive scan to interlace.
There is a page where you can change the brightness, contrast and tint, which is very nice for people having a beamer and no DVDO(the 2 black bars stay black during anamorphic projection). The bad thing is you can not really see how the picture is without leaving the menu.
The image is nice and clear, I have tested 60 DivX, and Xvid movies, they all work with no exception (the model I have has the Q-pel and GMC) on his chipset. No matter how many movies you have on your disc(4-6), it plays all. Movies must been burned in a single session.
The player can make some noise, when the movie starts, the noise disappears. If not, recycle the tray (out/in).
The Player is slim and nice, the display can be dimmed during playback.
No S video output or optical, You must use the audio coaxial cable with the component cable or SCART.
I have not tested MP3 or music disc.
Pro:
Brightness/contrast/tint adjustable in the menu
Play all divx3.4.5.6, vidx movies
Global motion compensation and Q-pel
Slim player with good adjustable white display
Prog scan.
Upgradable
Regional code can be change to multiregional
Fast jumping from chapter to chapter for DVD
Or 32x for divX
Subtitle up to 35 characteres in srt ,ssa, sub files can be inserted.(I have tested only sub files)
ntsc/pal
Con:
Limited connection
Bad menu selection
Poor remote control
Compatibility problem with some media (10-20%)

| Looks like a good player it has played everything that I have fed it so far. Plays divx and xvid well, although when playng a packed bitstream movie the image is kinda jerky. Also plays mp3's well and can be easily made multiregional. Also supports northern european letters in subtitles like ä,ö,ü, and õ. |

Bought this one after wasting my money on a kiss.
This one does take my dvd+dl experiments that did not work on my kiss when i tried it after reading it did support +dl on this site.
Simple backup created with dvddecryptor, burned with nero on a 'traxdata' dvd+r dl .
No tricks, no shit works just fine. |

Update
Its a pufact DVD Player Plays Almost all Divx and Xvid Movies.
But not Divx or Xvid with GMC = Global Motion Compensation.
You get hickups in the movie and image is jerky and sound plays not goed.
But there are almost no Movies with GMC So no wories.
you can modify the movie with MPEG4Modifier.
Ent you can se if GMC is in the movies with
GSpot 25b8
I hade a Kiss DP1000 And he dus not plays so many Divx or Xvid movies as the philips DVP3010 player.
Also Plays Mp3 music Perfect.
The DVD movies and Divx and Xvid Movies looks good.
All by all its a pufact dvd player.

| Player looks very nice. Works very well also. I have no experience with DIVX. Sound of MP3 is good. Low noise in standby-mode is for me not a problem, because I only hear it when I am with my ear just before the player (which I normally don't). Only 14 caracters of MP3-filenames. Over all I can recommend the player with my experiences so far. |

Plays all the movies on dvd+r(w) smooth, ot a single hick. Even if the disc was recorded 2 years ago.
Tested also 2 divx and xvid, they play good. With this player I will use these formats. (my old one couldnot even play mp3)
Only drawback on MP3 is that it does not support filenames longer than 14 chars, even in the IDTAG.
The tray does not open quickly, a bit slow.
The region free hack as mentioned WORKS.

Awful, absolutely awful player.
Doesnt support packed bitstream meaning that in about 70% of several hundreds of my divx's the image is jerky making it almost impossible to watch the movie.
Doesnt support subtitles if they dont have the same name as the video (avi) file. If you have some movies with more than one subtitle... better burn it again!
Philips has taken a step back with this.
I dont recommend it to anyone.
Stay away!

Overated player with flaws.
Pros:
- Looks great
Cons:
- Poor quality divx playback. Slight flicker on bottom line and it cannot handle packed bitstream movies (jerky motion). Many of the divx movies around are packed bitstream and I don't understand how this can be certified when it does not support them. Trust me - I have seem much, much better divx playback on cheaper models such as the LG.
- Cannot handle long filenames for divx movies. A real pain if you have a full DVD of TV season and you cannot tell one episode from another.
- The zoom on-screen display stays on when I are zoomed. If you want to watch a movie at 2x to remove some of the letterbox you just cannot get rid of the OSD sitting right in th emiddle of the screen. Really dumb design.
Because of the poor divx support and dumb zoom functionality I returned the player. |

plays everything i tried (divx, xvid with gmc, qpel)
subs are a bit on the dark side (srt, sub works).
what troubles me : the player had difficulties with packed bitstream (jerky image).. i unpacked the bitstream with mpeg4modifier and retried, works fine now.
I hope philips releases a firmware update to solve this !!
Other then that, great compatibility with dvd rw media, where my previous kiss dp-1000 really failed in. |

excellent dvd/divx player
pros in brief:
-- very good picture quality
-- plays JPEG with audio and user chosen transition
effects
-- vidid colors and great motion compensation
-- compatible with all DivX / XviD movies I tried
on it
-- compatible with VBR MP3 (wish it played OGG :P)
-- upgradeable (no official update releases 11/05/2005)
--outputs
- video: composite, scart (RGB), component (with progressive scan)
- audio: coaxial digital, stereo rca
-- modern design (my wife loved it :P)
-- takes little space and can easily moved to other rooms
drawbacks:
- doesn't support CP1253/iso8859-7 subtitles (Greek)
- few **** XviD files (not DivX) **** have motion problems which (I guess) are due to their encoding (I'll try to convert them to divx and see if there are any differences) |

Good overall quality, but for several details I think I will bring it back to the shop for refund :
- little noise in standby mode
- long names displayed up to 14 characters only (I tried on JPEG files)
- my 2 years old Sony DVP-NS305 has a better image quality (better colors, more accurate images)
- in JPEG view mode, diaporama mode only available, can be paused if you like having the pause symbol printed on your picture
Good points :
- reads multi-session (I tried up to 3) DVD-ROMs
- reads JPEG files up to 11 M-pix
- good JPED load time
Note that I don't care about DIVX.

REGION FREE HACK NEEDED!
At first I thought of getting the 630/632 model but noticed that the 3010 just came out. The design is very smooth and slim, a bit narrower comparing to standard sizes. So, I took the bet and got the 3010 despite not having seen too many comments about it on the net. Well, it’s too new..
This machine is great and plays everything I tried feeding it with. I have only tried it for a couple of days, and I’m no expert, but so far no complaints. Xvid plays mostly fine, subtitles too. Sometimes though it feels like the Xvid played on my pc look ‘better’ and smoother – well, the player is not a PC after all. DVD plays perfect.
One thing I find strange is that the disc tray does not seem to go all the way out – so it happens that you have to insert the disc a few mm inside before closing the tray.
Menus are nice and clear. JPG transition is great and it plays mp3 in the background if you want.
All in all, a good and beautifully designed player.

| Comments: |
I bought this dvd player (my first one) to watch Divx & Xvid movies on the tv. Until now it rejected only one movie all other movies (12) are watchable like dvd's (no blocks etc). It plays one Xvid per CD-R but also 6 Xvid's on one DVD . It plays subs and when you have cd1 & cd2 of one movie (Xvid) on a dvd it plays it like one complete movie. Even dvd's that crash on my desktop work fine with this player.
The interface is windows based. Very easy to work with .
A minus is that the buttons sometimes do not function, then you have to reset the dvdplayer. But if you use the remote only, that won't happen .
I'm very happy with this dvdplayer |
